Sleeping in swing?

Anyone's LO sleeping in the swing? My LO is doing the 4 month regression thing and seems to sleep in 25-45 min increments. When she napped in the swing today, she still woke up slightly but the swinging put her back to sleep almost immediately. We got an hour and 40 mins out of that nap which is unheard of for our girl. Wondering about sleeping in it. I was thinking about setting it up in the guest room so I can sleep next to her in it. Any thoughts?

Re: Sleeping in swing?

  • I always put in the swing for naps. Only way he will sleep longer. He does good at night in his crib. But when he was sick I let him sleep in his swing cause it was more upright and helped him breathe

  • I'm in the same boat nap-wise. I'm too afraid to leave him in there overnight. It seems weird. But if other people have done it, maybe I'll give it a shot. I'm getting pretty desperate...
  • I was hesitant to leave her in it overnight, too. But honestly, I was ready to try anything last night. So we tried sleeping in the swing and got almost 4 hours of sleep. She did wake up a few times but went right back to sleep. I slept right next to her though, because it made me nervous. We'll probably try it again, although I don't want to make it a habit. Thanks for your replies!
  • Lurking from D15 I'd be happy if my DD slept somewhere other than on me lol!
  • My LO takes most his naps in the swing. When he was going through sleep regression, I put the vibrating attachment from his bassinet into his crib for night time sleep. Worked like a charm. It took him about a week or so, then we were able to eliminate the vibration all together. We have always used white noise all throughout the night and still do. I'm not sure if he still needs it but if it ain't broke don't fix it.
  • My LO has also taken most of her naps in a swing, from the time she was born. I think the issue with sleeping in a swing is that it can push the chin too far to the chest and cut off their airway. But our LOs are old enough now and have enough head control not to slump. You're supposed to be able to fit 2 fingers between their chin and chest to determine safe breathing. IMO, you are fine.
  • I felt like the worst mother because somehow I couldn't get my babe to sleep anywhere except the swing - for about 2 months!!! Naps and at night... I was riddled with guilt but it was the only way either of us got more than 2 hours of night time sleep and I figured he needed a healthy and rested mom. He was starting to push himself out of it (even strapped in) so that's when we decided to do sleep training (2 weekends ago). We did CIO for 3 nights in his crib and now he sleeps 9 hours in his crib AND also naps in his crib! It's like he's a different person but we're all so happy. I say do whatever works for the time being because everything is temporary with babies - the good and the bad.
  • My baby would only sleep in her swing for a good 2 months. My doctor said as long as she's on her back and her feet aren't hanging off, then it's not too big of a deal. Thats the only place she would nap or night sleep. Now she will nap on the couch and only night sleep in her vibrating chair.
  • My LO only naps in her swing during the day. She sleeps in her crib at night for 7-9 hours but straight up refuses to nap in it during the day? No clue. But she also slept in a rock n play at night for the first 2 months. I would do whatever works.
