Sprinkle question

Are any STMs having a sprinkle?? If so are you doing a registry for it? My friend is throwing me a sprinkle (which I was largely against but she convinced me that "every baby should be celebrated" and I couldn't argue with that). Anyway 2 of my friends that had their 2nd babies last year asked if I was registering and when I told them no they had a why not reaction.
Now im second guessing and wondering do I need a registry?? If so for what?? To clarify we were team green with DD and now we are having a boy but we still have all of our big item baby gear and it's all neutral so can be used for him. We are have a ton of neutral swaddlers, blankets, and newborn outfits. I know we'll need new bottles as DDs got nasty and I threw them out as well as paci's but I figured DH and I would go buy those ourselves.
So I guess I'm wondering...is there something I'm missing or not remembering that we need that would actually warrant a registry for a sprinkle??
PS I've never actually been to a sprinkle before so I just feel clueless!

Re: Sprinkle question

  • Ok here's my 2 cents!  well, more like novel.
My neighbor has a 3.5yr old girl and now a newborn boy. We weren't friends when she had her first, so I wasn't invited to her shower for her daughter.  When she suffered through 2 miscarriages before getting pregnant with her son, I felt that she deserved a day  (or at least a few hrs) to be celebrated for what she had been through.
I offered to host a small sprinkle with our neighbors (that are now friends), and anyone else she would like to invite.  We ended up inviting 10 people, including her mom and MIL, and we had a fun lunch together. She didn't have a registry, but that wasn't a problem. Because we are all neighbors, people could ask me if she wanted anything specific.  For example, she told me her bath stuff was all pink or not in good shape, so I told that to one of the neighbors, who got her an adorable blue bath towel and washcloths from pottery barn.

So, my intention was purely for her, but now she feels like she needs to do the same for me. We planned her Sprinkle before I got pregnant.  She offered to host, even with a newborn, and going back to work like 2 weeks before.  I feel bad that she has so much on her plate, but because she offered, I will enjoy myself, and enjoy getting together with the neighborhood ladies.

I don't think it is a problem that you don't have a registry. If there is something that you would really like/need, let the host know, and she can pass it along to anyone who asks.  I'm not going to make a registry because BRU makes me tired.  It sounds like the bottles and maybe some older clothing for boys would be helpful.  There's always diapers.

We are Team Green, as we were last time, but the girls were born 6 weeks before my shower, so I did get some girly stuff.  If we have a little dude, he will be rocking a purple bath towel.  :)

  • I had a sprinkle when I was pregnant with my last child since it was a girl (we had DS already).  It was just family and a few close friends and it was hosted by my sister at her house.  I never considered having a registry since I didn't really expect people to buy things like that. I mostly got girly outfits and special items like a little play tea set, handmade items and her first tutu (I cried it was so cute...).  Anyway, I guess it's up to your guests to decide if they want to buy fun things or useful things like bottles.  I know my cousin requested diapers and gift cards at her sprinkle and we all thought it was extremely tacky to ask for things like that since she had had a huge baby shower with her first baby.  I'm not sure about the etiquette with sprinkles in other places though.
  • I am having a sprinkle (super long story but main point is I was in the hospital for the shower for my son and am now expecting a girl). I had made a registry for the freebies and completion discount, but just made it public when I found out my sisters and some close friends were adamant about having a party. Mostly stuff like pink blankets and cute outfits. Also the book Vader's Little Princess for MH since we got Darth Vader and Son when my son was born. Oh, and a new camera for our baby monitor to add on. But that's it. We have everything else so we are just excited to celebrate our little girl and see everyone. I have been a hermit this entire pregnancy so I can't wait to have a party!

Thank you both! This is what I was thinking too ...what would I need a registry for but my friends reacted so strangely to me saying I wasn't doing one that it made me feel like I was doing something wrong.
This baby is a miracle for us and we went through so much IF wise to get him which is why I thought we should celebrate him too. I honestly don't expect anything but just wanted to have a party to celebrate him.

  • I created a registry just for myself to get the completion discounts (Target & Amazon). When a close friend said she wanted to throw a Sprinkle after we found out it was a girl I made the registry public, but since we have the basics I just included diapers, wipes, bottles, cute clothes etc.

That makes sense @mello13 I just didn't know if there's something I'm neglecting to think of that I need.

  • My mother is throwing a sprinkle for me since baby #2 is a girl. DS isn't even two though, so we really still have everything. I sat and did one registry at BRU and it wore me out lol but they had a nice checklist that helped me remember little newborn things that I no longer have like a rectal thermometer, gas drops, etc. I also added the new car seat and a double stroller, but I'm not really expecting anyone to get those for me. Since it ended up being so small of a list I added stuff for me too for nursing like nursing pads, vitamins, nipple cream, etc.

  • Oh I did put new pump parts and milk storage bags too. And I just found this super cute nursing cover/scarf. I did take off the nursing bras though because I figured that might be a little weird.

  • I had a small sprinkle with my friends for baby #2 (in my circle, we go out to dinner) and I was having the opposite sex, so I got clothes, which was perfect.
I'm expecting #3 now, team green, and my husbands company is insisting to throw a shower for us and asked us to register.
I did one at Target (they give you a $20 gift card for doing one in store) I have all my big stuff which is gender neutral plus tons of clothes from both sexes.. My kids are 6.5 and 4.5 so these are things I put on: diapers, wipes, mylicon, butt paste, burp cloths, shopping cart cover, monitor (ours died), space saver chair, bottles, pacifiers, breast milk bags, breatheable bumper.
Most expensive thing is $50, lots of $4-15 options. Hope that helps

  • I'm not registering either. My mother is throwing my sprinkle and just asked me for a "short list of needed items" that she could suggest to those invited.
