Let's talk laundry detergent

I've always heard to wash all baby things in Dreft but I also see All and Tide have sensitive skin and free and clear detergents. Are there any differences? Also, if Dreft is preferred, do I use it for our clothes too since the baby will be snuggling with me and DH? Thanks!

Re: Let's talk laundry detergent

  • I've said it once and I'll say it again- duggar family recepie. It's the best!

  • We use any free and clear. I just use it for all of our clothes because it doesn't seem to be any different. Plus DS and I both have sensitive skin and so it's nice to not worry about that. Or using the wrong detergent
  • We use free and clear stuff.
  • We use free and clear. It's actually better for your clothes and health, anyway. Less unnatural junk.

I respect people who make their own, but I'm too lazy for that :P

  • Thanks everyone!!! @JoMunson I'll look into that...altho I'm pretty lazy too lol
  • I planned on doing Free & Clear....until I washed a load of our little one's things in a free sample of Dreft I had received...  this is probably not the best reason to go with a detergent, but I LOVED the smell of Dreft and caved into buying some!  Ha!
  • Loli also like the smell but it's so expensive on top of buying a separate kind!
  • Lol not loli
  • We wash everything with Tide's Free/Gentle formula. DS has done well with it and it works nicely on our clothes and bedding too.

We use a dye/scent free liquid detergent for clothes, blankets, etc. and Rockin Green - unscented for cloth diapers.

  • We make our own.  Works great!  And worked great for our baby.
  • @durbie92 that's what I loved about the duggar recepie! Since they're making enough detergent to basically run a washer continuously you end up with A LOT of detergent! We make ours about twice a year (and I do laundry two to three times a week).
  • I've found biokleen, citrus grapefruit scent, has been great for baby and toddler clothes!  The scent is very mild, if anything.  It is rated well on EWG.

  • I just used normal tide for both of my kids. I would just not add bleach or fabric softener to there loads and never had any skin issues. If we do see it this time around, I would just swap to the free and clear version.

I would recommend having baby oxyclean around for really tough spit up/blow out messes, especially for packed away or second hand outfits that have old stains. Also sunlight is awesome at bleaching out baby poop stains.
  • I use All Free & Clear for everyone bc it's too much work to use it for some and not others. It's only $11-12 where I live for the huge container that lasts me months. Dreft is too expensive and All does the same thing.

  • We will be using Tide Free & Gentle. We liked it the best out of the brands we tried.
  • We are also using Tide. Dreft is too expensive for such a small dang bottle.

And you know, I've heard babies make a lot of laundry. And I'm cheap.
  • @JoMunson ok I promise I will check that out.....making it twice a year?!?!?! @mrstmoose yes....I'm very cheap as well...thrifty whatever :) thanks again ladies!
  • Sticking with all free and clear, I've been using it for years even without a baby around.
  • Free & clear for all our clothes.

  • I normally use Purex. Since this is my first baby, I'm planning on just getting either the free and clear Purex or the baby Purex. I will definitely be adding in baby oxyclean when needed. That stuff is amazing!
  • All, free and clear. It's cheap and I'm not a perfume-y person. I always feel like newborns should be able to smell 'you', not the scent of clothes. All seems to work just fine for us (or free and clear Target brand).
