Hcg levels?

Is anyone else getting regular HCG levels checked? I'm on my fourth beta hcg and the levels have been rapidly rising so doc is now thinking maybe twins.
8 dpo- very faint bfp on wondfo
10 dpo- 12
14 dpo- 100
18 dpo- 1725
22 dpo- 5507

any ladies with similar reads in the past ending up with twins or a singleton?

Re: Hcg levels?

  • I was under the impression that levels double every day so that actually looks right on track. A little more than double at 18dpo and a little less than double at 22dpo

  • It looks like they all more than doubled to me... One of our math is very wrong @NatashaSprout

  • I'm sorry, you're right. Every 48 hours it doubles, not everyday. I need a nap.

They double at least every 48 hours in 85% of normal pregnancies.

@alanaw121 Its hard to be sure about the number of babies from betas alone, there is a HUGE range of normal which overlaps broadly between singleton and multiple pregnancies. My pregnancy that started at twins did have very high betas (I was around 30k+ by six weeks) and it did rise very quickly at first, but there is immense variation woman to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy. You'll just have to wait for an ultrasound. :)

  • Thanks @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt I know there is a huge range for singles and I'm still within the top of the range but the doubling so quickly is, I assume, why the doctor is thinking it's possible that it's twins. I was reading that after 1,600 it's suppose to slow down to 48-76 hours to double. Obviously it's not in every case as with anything but it would be so nice if it was just an exact science. Lol

To make matters worse, I of course did some googling and found that some people didn't see the twin on ultrasound until week 8 so obviously the ultrasound on Monday won't even be super reliable.
  • Wait, so those numbers indicate twins? I was at 443 on 14 dpo and 990 on 16 dpo....but we don't have any twins in our family so that would be unexpected for us! Doctor didn't say anything about twins....

  • @clarabear1126 it's not actually the numbers themselves as much as it is the rate that they are doubling I think. My doctor, and every doctor is different, said the the numbers doubling every 24 hours (or less in my case) typically means twins. It can also mean nothing or other complication (downs, molar) based on my research but she didn't mention those and fraternal twins run in my family.

You numbers actually look great and are a little more than doubling every 48 so prayers for a healthy sticky baby for you! Looks good so far!
  • Ohhhh ok! I was nervous there for a bit. Not that twins aren't a huge blessing of course! GL on your little one too!!

  • Hi Ladies,
I've only had 2 beta hcg levels so far

    15dpo - 386
    17 dpo - 871

We have another scheduled for Friday and an US the following week so I'll keep you updated!

  • How long did it take you guys to get your levels back? I've had 2 betas done and neither have been posted on the online portal but a ton of other results have been. I'm wondering if they wanted to have both numbers before they posted them? Trying not to stress about it...

So long as I get the draw done by 10am I get the results by 2pm, but that's because my RE's office does the lab work in-house. Their record for me was 1.5 hours from needle to phone call. When I had draws done through a third party lab when I was just having them done through my family doctor, it could take up to a couple days, but my doctor would call me the minute she had the results (they were emailed to her.) Call the ordering physician; they can request the value for you over the phone.

  • Hello everyone. My beta today was 21 @ 10dpo. I'm not feeling too confident about that.
Does anyone have a low beta success story?
    Last pregnancy, I was at 29 @ 13dpo and it was a C/P.

I got mine the next day. I got the blood draws done around 4:00 pm both times and they were available in my online portal around 8 the next morning. I'd give them a call and see what they can tell you.
  • Thanks for the advice! I was considering calling tomorrow but needed confirmation that i wouldn't sound like a crazy lady ;)

10dpo is still early and as others have said, it is not the level but the rate of increase that matters.  Good luck

  • @laurenlalapI wouldn't have thought 21 at 10dpo is low. As you see many posters say in this community, there is a very broad range of normal and a single beta doesn't tell much of a story on its own.

I went in for my first draw this morning.... Wishing each of us sticky babies!!
  • @laurenlalap 21 at 10 dpo is actually a good number so I wouldn't be too worried. I would just ask them to recheck the levels at 12 or 14 dpo to make sure they're going up. Most women are just starting to produce hcg at 8-10dpo so being at 21 is pretty good.

@jennihaze I get my blood work at a standard ob doctors office and sometimes they get it back the same day and sometimes it's the next day but I always have to call for the results. They only called me after the last drawn because the numbers were so high so they wanted the early ultrasound. Typically I find they only take the time to call with the results if they think there's something you need to know or there is a follow up item because of them.
  • In my last pregnancy with my son, I got a call from the doctor's office saying my hcg levels were so high that they thought he was twins.  I got all excited but it turned out to be just randomly high levels.  Guess that's just how my body works.

  • Found out today that it was twins, not now, but it was. One sac was empty so that one just stopped developing I guess. It's to be expected because my husband has DNA fragmentation so it's very hard to get a sticky one. The other still looks good gestational sac is there and the yolk sac looks good. I have a follow up next week to see if they can get a heartbeat. It was too early today. I am actually relieved that one didn't make it, only because I had preterm labor at 27 weeks and 29 weeks and ended up with two premie babies. Twins would drop me into the super high risk category for probably a very unviable preterm delivery.
  • Thank you for sharing!!! I had an 82 at 15 DPO (Monday) and I've been freaking out waiting to find out my number for today.

  • 15 dpo, just got my 1st level back at 633. The next 48 hrs is going to be tough. I've had a loss before at this time, so cross your eyes for me it doubles. Good luck ladies!
  • I had my levels done on Monday (what I think was 23 dpo). I was supposed to have them done again today, but the doctor said they were high enough that he should be able to see something on an ultrasound so I shouldn't get the second draw. I have a US scheduled for Monday. I kind of wish he would have had me get the second draw so I could've seen if they doubled.

This all came about because I had a day with light bleeding last week, but everything has felt good since then. Praying that they see something on the US Monday. This is my 2nd pregnancy - 1st ended in loss. I think I'm 5w4d today.

  • It's been a week since my appointment and I still haven't seen either of my beta results... They have the first one at the office and the one from Friday they are waiting to hear from the lab. What the heck is taking so long!!!!!!
  • Mine was almost 6800 yesterday which would be about 22 or 23 dpo. The ultrasound today only showed one sac but was told it's still too early to see if two are there.
  • My first beta was taken at 12dpo it was 28 and then it was taken again at 14 Dpo and it was 120 going again tomorrow so should find out tomorrow night what it is. Can't wait till we get to Have an early scan at 7 weeks
  • I got my results from Tues which was 23 or 24 DPO and it was 6790. They said this is normal for 5 wks and wont give me another order to go back and monitor the increase. I know I should just take that and be happy but all I want is the piece of mind that things are progressing and not have to unknowingly wait 35 days.
  • I had levels drawn lady Friday at 4w1d and they were 400. They also did a u/s and could only see a little empty sac. However, both are typical for 4 weeks. I had levels re drawn a couple hours ago so I should get those back too. I also have another ultrasound tomorrow morning.
  • Here are my betas so far:

    10 dpo - 21

    12 dpo - 98

    14 dpo - 264 (today)

The nurse just called with my 264 beta and said they're a little concerned it's not at 300 yet so I have to come back on Saturday for a 4th beta. I know she's probably wrong but my 4 m/c's brain is freaking a bit.

At 14DPO, 264 is just fine and you're clearly doubling well. I'm not sure why they're worrying about it not being 300.

  • I had my first beta drawn of 228 at 15 DPO. So you're doing much better than me! I wouldn't sweat.

I wish I could just do a damned blood pregnancy test myself at home every day :)!!!! I got it drawn Wed and they told me I wouldn't get the results until "Friday or Monday". When I reacted with shock, they told me "your doc didn't order it stat, so you have ot wait." Why would any doc not order stat? Cruel world. I cannot bear the waiting, seriously!
  • The actual number doesn't really matter, it's the pattern of rise (doubling) that matters! I wouldn't worry about the level, the fact that your numbers are doubling nicely is a good sign.

  • I have been seeing an RE for a year, so they have been doing all the BW at the moment.
@laurenlalap I think doubling HCG is great ! Do not get scared at this point, they also wanted me to go back for the fourth beta.
    My HCG levels are; 11dpo:48 ; 13dpo:132 ; 16dpo:690
I was very nervous until I got the call but I think it is going well, doubling time is around 30 hours. The nurse said that the levels were very good but  they want me to go in on Sunday again to repeat the test. Are they being super cautious or do they still have to track HCG levels ? It just makes me paranoid.
I agree @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt , i wished that there was a device that we could test HCG levels ourselves. I would poke my self twice a day.

Yeah. I want an hCG device rather like a glucometer. Little poke on the finger, drop of blood. That would be awesome. And useful from an emergency med point of view...
OMG @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt let's invent that! We'd be rolling in $$$ (and I'd be anemic with over-pricked fingers from daily checks).
