Shapers

Have any of you ladies worn shapers before while pregnant? I tried on my dress last night that I bought for my shower which is this weekend back home. (No time to look for a few dress) It's a thin material and it literally shows every lump, dimple and cellulite mark... oh and panty line... I felt disgusting and not at all cute when I had it on :( I'm thinking maybe a maternity shaper would solve those issues. One that covers the belly but you slip your legs into and goes half way down my thighs. Have any of you worn these and how uncomfortable are they? Did it solve the lumpy issue? Thinking about going to buy one today during my lunch break. Help!

I bought one from Motherhood Maternity and love it!  The one I have is just like you described, covers my belly and thighs.  Very similar to Spanx, and very comfortable!

@asummerbride That's exactly where I'm stopping in the mall today during lunch so I bet its the exact same one! So its not uncomfortable and it 'smoothes' everything out?

I don't have experience with full shapers, but I have this half slip made by Vanity Fair for my thinner & lighter colored dresses that works really well if you just need a bit of smoothing without compressing anything. I just sized up and it stretches over my bump just fine.

edited link-- wrong one linked initially.
  • I like the way the full panel on my maternity jeans supports me, but I can't be bothered to make the effort for an actual shaper (if I am thinking of the same thing you mean by a shaper). Instead I have a few slips that I can wear under dresses or skirts, which are much more comfortable anyway. If I'm not wearing jeans, I like my clothes to be as light and non-constricting as possible. :P

  • I have the pregnancy spanx, which I will be wearing under my dress tomorrow for my shower. I was really worried they would cut off circulation and make me uncomfortable, but I tried them out last weekend and I wore them for over 6 hours without any issues. They give lots of support in the belly area and hide all the lumps, bumps, cellulite etc. Highly recommend!

Honestly, it's very comfortable to me.  It's a very thin material, and super stretchy so I didn't find it constricting or uncomfortable at all.  It smoothed everything out, just like Spanx.  You can try it on there, I did. Just try it on over your underwear, and if you have the dress with you, even better!

  • I was thinking of getting maternity spanx, but I'm wearing dresses so rarely, and when I do I'm wearing leggings or tights. A lot of my tights are still stretchy enough to fit me and hold things in nicely. At this point I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to get any....

I have these as well and I love them! I'm entering the dress only stage because it's getting hot in TX so they are much needed to hold my butt in place!

I went to motherhood maternity during lunch and bought the "shaper panty" that @asummerbride mentioned. It sucks in the thighs and butt and goes over the belly bump. It was pretty snug but not uncomfortable and it seemed to hide the flaws so I will put it to the test tonight when I try it under my dress! fingers crossed.

GIRL, its already freakin hot down here in southern california. The dress stage is now in full effect, and the spanx do a great job at "keeping it all together". Lord knows nobody at my job wants to see all the things jigglin and wigglin. LOL
