TTC After a Loss

TGIF check-in!

what does everyone have going on?!?

Any good movies/Netflix? Dinner parties? Doing garden prep? Baby making?

We we are boring people. Lots of housework to get caught up on, need to get my donation/consignment stuff together and get my house de-cluttered which is an ongoing mission. Probably lots of dog walking and some cooking.

Tell me me what you've got ladies, so I can live through your exciting lives!

Re: TGIF check-in!

  • Y'all try to contain your envy.... I am traveling to Atlanta for a Rotary conference. I will be president of our club in 2017 and they require you to have training... I love being a Rotarian and I love my club, but a full weekend of president-elect training is not high on my bucket list. And the conference is out by the airport, so it's not like I even get to enjoy being in Atlanta... oh well. I tried to convince DH to come with, but I'll be so busy and the hotel is so far out from the city, it wasn't really appealing to him.

  • Boring chez Catiecat too - if I'm good and get my work done I won't have to mark this weekend - but I may poke around a bit on prepping a job application. DH has another video game tournament to watch (Heroes of the Storm) and plans on getting up at 5 to watch it (oi). We'll BD a bit but I don't think I'm in my FW yet.

Knitting, maybe a walk or two outside, hit the gym... was hoping to go bowling or something different than our usual but then DH discovered another tournament to watch (there was one last weekend too - and apparently another in Asia coming up... sigh).

@fivetimesnoluck - my Nonno was a rotarian over in Italy - hopefully the training is more fun than you expect and/or there are some interesting people there with you

  • @fivetimesnoluck will you get out of downtown/airport ATL at all? I used to live in Midtown and can recommend places....but if you're stuck there, I'm sorry....it's the worst part of the city! :-)

  • We have a wedding this weekend!! It's H's best friend from growing up, so he's in the wedding. We have the rehearsal dinner tonight and I'm having a bitch of a time deciding what to wear. It's at a casual taco joint, but the bride is wearing a cocktail dress. I finally decided on sweater and nice slacks. I hate winter weddings! They are still hard to dress for!

I'm testing everyday so I can drink. Today there was no glimmer of a line, so I will have a margarita. I'm not sure about the wedding tomorrow. If I can even see a shadow of a line, I will probably have 1-2 glasses on wine and leave it at that. These people are pretty heavy drinkers, so it's gonna be tough!!

@catiecatp I hope marking goes well and you find some great jobs this weekend!! @BornReady boo for housework, but I get it. I keep putting ours off! @fivetimesnoluck enjoy Atlanta! I was there for a conference 2 years ago in August so that was painful! If you get a chance to go downtown and liked Gobe With the Wind check out the Margaret Mitchell museum-I loved it!!
  • Like you @BornReady and @catiecatp, I'm pretty boring. I got behind on chores this week so today I'm trying to get caught up on that (2 more loads of laundry to fold and vacuuming) and then off to finish staining my pallet boards (it's taking a lot longer than I thought it would).

@fivetimesnoluck that does sound a little interesting. Congratulations on becoming club president! A couple of my aunts were Rotary members and always loved it. Maybe you'll at least get a chance to sneak away from the airport for a couple hours.

@chloe97 that sounds like a lot of fun. Weddings are the best when you or your partner are very close with the one tying the knot. Have a great time and don't worry too much bout that few drinks. I'm sure your body will tell ya when it wants to be done anyway.

This weekend, besides installing our pallet wall, I'm going to try to get DF to sit and relax with me. Possibly Netflix since we ending up going out last week (saw Deadpool and HIGHLY recommend it) and I'm planning a roast chicken dinner for tomorrow, so that will be nice to cuddle up all stuffed to the gills, slowly drift off into early sleep, cause oh did I mention, I'm on CD1  :)
  • No one is boring; you are being domestic. :D  Both my husband and I are extremely domestic and find all tasks out of the house to be less fulfilling and more draining than those in it.

Today I'm cleaning so we can just do our stuff on the weekend, instead of cleaning together on Saturday. DH has had a hard week at work - a baby shower for a coworker was sprung on him, boy did we have a cry that day - so I'd like to just try to have him relax this weekend. Maybe I'll make him some risotto tonight, as that's his favourite.

Saturday, first thing, we're meeting a friend on the other end of Toronto (do any of you know just how giant this city is?) to go to a Farmer's Market. It's a really nice one in the summer and they keep it going all winter inside, but this is the first one this winter I've felt up to going to. Then we're getting crepes.

Sunday we're having a dinner party for someone who is due at the same time I should have been and another friend. I'm going to do Greek - tofu souvlaki, lemon potatoes etc. I have phyllo in the freezer, so maybe if we're energetic we'll make spanikopita, but I've never even tried to make a good vegan substitute for feta. I guess that's what experimenting is for...

Otherwise, I guess we'll listen to the new Kendrick Lamar album and continue to watch Fuller House. I'm on CD 3, and if my period ends up being the same (so far looks like, it was even 28 days after HcG should have been at zero.) then maybe on Sunday we'll finally BD for fun.

@BornReady yay decluttering. I love getting rid of stuff. I've moved twelve times in the past four years (in four different cities and three different provinces) and I leave behind more each time. We're totally settled now and I'm running out of stuff to get rid of! D:

@fivetimesnoluck Hopefully you'll get something out of the whole thing, in the end. And congrats, president!

@catiecatp Good luck with the marking. Some of my friends are teachers and I hear alll about the dreaded marking.

@chloe97 Ah, weddings. I don't drink, aside from a beer every couple of years, and so weddings are relatively intolerable for me. I think I'd do shots if/when I ever had to go to another one. Haha, I think you'll have a better time than me. FX though for the best reason not to drink.

@cooaladoll Enjoy your dinner and snuggles and sleep. :)

I am being *domestic* as well with laundy/dishes/cleaning up. I also have to work on a website for a friend. Lastly I need to try and meet with my parents tax person to help me finish mine. I already filed and then remembered that DH sold his stock early in the year, but the form doesn't have all the info I need. So now I have to go digging to get the info and then file an amendment! ugh. FML.

It's supposed to be beautiful weather this weekend, so we will likely head out ice fishing too. You know you're Canadian when -1 and +1 Celsius is exciting. (About 30 & 33 Fahrenheit I think)

Im so EXCITED because this AF looks like it'll end today, all other ones since MC have been 14 days. 5 days is so much more normal! I'll start peeing on OPKs this weekend most likely too. I've tried so hard this week to temp but I keep forgetting. I always wake up in the early morning hours but not awake enough to remember to temp and then I don't get enough sleep to temp when I wake up for real after.

    Thank you, @reneeannemm and @cooaladoll!

@catiecatp I think the fact that it's an international organization is fascinating. That's so cool!

@amberruka, @chloe97 - I actually went to college in Atlanta and grew up just north of there, so I am familiar with the city (which is why I am so disappointed to be stuck in College Park!). Our agenda is pretty packed, so I didn't even call any of my old friends or anything to let them know I am coming. :/

I do expect I will enjoy it in the end (I am a nerd for this kind of stuff!), but after the week I have had, I wish it were any other time. DH and I have had a really hard time this week, he is dealing with some deep depression in my opinion, and I would rather spend quality time with him this weekend. Navigating this ish is just so damn hard.

I will definitely find a way to make the most of it, cause otherwise it would really suck.

Hoping you all enjoy your weekend, however it comes together!

  • @BornReady Oh I NEED to be doing that, but will probably not get the opportunity.

@fivetimesnoluck I'm so sorry for your rough week. I hope your training is quick and painless.

@catiecatp What are you planning to knit? Any fun project specifically going on?

@chloe97 FX for just a couple of glasses of wine for you tomorrow!

@cooaladoll What are you planning on doing with the pallets? Putting them directly on the wall or some sort of art installation? Either way, sounds super cool!

@reneeannemm Oh, I'm so jealous of your indoor farmer's market! During the spring, summer, and fall, our farmer's market is literally at the end of our street. I miss it so so much in the winter time!

@m6agua You're smart for having a tax person. I let DH do ours, which leads to him getting stressed out, which leads to me getting stressed out. But alas, we are cheap.

@beff12 FX for you this cycle!!

I have nothing fun going on this weekend. I'm submitting a grant at the end of the month and still have too many things left on my checklist, so that will be focus number one. Then I'm giving a talk at a brewery (a type of "beer with a scientist") on Tuesday, so I have to finish assembling my slides, and practice, practice, practice! Hopefully, I'll find some cleaning time in there somewhere, so I can be "domestic" with all you smart ladies!

@bornready – good luck with the de-cluttering – I keep meaning to do some of that too – hopefully a new job and major move will give me a kick in the pants soon

@chloe97 – FX you only get a few drinks tomorrow

@cooaladoll – hope this weekend is relaxing

@reneeannemm – yep domestic (have you read the book “The Gentle Art of Domesticity” I found it such a lovely read so I’m re-reading it – little short articles on knitting and baking and colour and stuff) – we have a year round farmer’s market here in Calgary but I’ve only been once or twice – too far of a drive, though I’m sure it is shorter than yours

@m6agua – good luck with taxes – Canadian taxes are due much later than yours so I’m still ignoring ours.

@roper2617 – I grew up in a small town like that too (Desbarats Ontario), though I think the theatre was “only” 1 hour each way…

@beff12 and @bornmommy– sounds like a good weekend

@cjs260 – plans for knitting involve some combination of the following: finishing the first sock of my Haleakala socks, casting on Fiddlehead mittens, knitting a Bonbon bunny, spinning something and/or knitting a baby hat (friend just had her boy early) – oh and there was something else that I now can’t remember. Most of that won’t get done but we’ll see

@BornReady nothing wrong with sticking close to home. I love weekends where I can just hang out and maybe get some clutter cleared out

@fivetimesnoluck I hope your training goes well, despite being stuck away from everything fun.

@chloe97 FX for BFP this weekend. Hope you have fun at the wedding!

@m6auga Tax stuff doesn't sound like fun at all.

@beff12 FX for a BFP soon! I should also really be getting my tax stuff ready also. But I have a little bit more time to procrastinate, so procrastinating it is!

@bornmommy I completely forgot that I also want to binge on fuller house. Thanks for the reminder lol. And enjoy :)

@cjs260 Sounds like a busy weekend. Hope you can find some down time. Also, I hope you're presentation goes well on Tuesday!

@catiecatp I'm roughly 1.5 hours (east) from Desbarats. Small world!

  • @bornmommy I watched a bunch of Fuller House last week! It was really nostalgic and fun for me, hope you enjoy it too! What did I ever do before Netflix?

@reneeannem Sorry to hear about your DH's baby shower news. So hard, but you sound like such a supportive partner to him. From your posts it sounds like you two have created quite the nice haven to live your lives with one another in. And really any house with both Fuller House and Kendrick Lamar sounds like a good place to hang for the weekend!

@chloe97 I hear you on winter wedding attire, so challenging! I had these great black velvet JCrew slacks I used to wear to like every fancy winter event I had for years. Everyone in dresses would always say how jealous they were of my weather appropriate gear! Have fun :)

i am a recent edition to loss, not yet TTC again yet but hoping that seeing the rest of you guys being able to get back at it will help me. Gives me hope for the next few weeks.

I had my d&c Wednesday so i managed to get a lot of neglected busy work done today trying to keep my mind occupied. Already organized the garage and Tupperware cabinets and ordered lots of stuff for a bachelorette party I'm planning next month.

I I am probably going to use the rest of the weekend trying to get myself mentally prepared to go back to work Monday and figure out how the hell I am going to be able to face my SIL coming in town. She arrives Tuesday and is bringing her 4 month old "oopsies birth control baby" that she didn't originally want. Not quite sure how I will deal with being around them both only 1 week after the loss of our teddy graham. Hopefully I find something this weekend to get me through.

Anyone ne have good suggestions on coping with that kind of thing?

Also, house of cards or released today on Netflix so there is always that.

  • Welcome @SnobunnieMel. Sorry about your SIL visit, that sounds painful. I've been there a few times, and usually go with "grin and bear it" and then cry in bed later. Or I show my face and then go somewhere else while someone else is in charge of socializing.

And... you are right there always is "house of cards"! I am a couple seasons behind, but I am thinking of taking it back up again. I got disinterested at one point and gave up, but my SIL is talking me back into it slowly. Worth going back these days?

Also, I'm envious of your malamutes! I used to live in Wyoming and knew a few of them, they were amazing animals, so huge and beautiful... and so.much.fur.
Sorry for your loss lady, but this is a nice supportive place to be if you need to vent, talk etc.
  • DH and I stayed in last night and watched House of Cards :)

It was a great night until we decided to get busy in the bedroom (second time since D&C a little over two weeks ago) and we realized I started bleeding bright red afterwards. It seems to have tapered off this morning and now it's down to very light spotting. I called the nurses line and they said as long as I don't have cramps or any other symptoms I should be fine and that my cervix may be sensitive. She suggested we give it a break for a few days. Anyone else experience anything like this BDing for the first time after MC or d&c? The first time we did a couple of days ago was totally fine and no bleeding. I'm just frustrated- it felt good to feel somewhat normal again and be intimate.

@SnoBunnieMel- Good luck with going back to work on Monday. It was a little rough for me the first two days but ended up being a good distraction.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

  • Hi ladies,
looks like a lot of organized houses this weekend!! Who wants to come do mine?!

@fivetimesnoluck and @chloe97 sounds like you both have the most exciting weekends of all of us planned - have fun at your respective events!!

@reneeannemm we are CD twins. Yippee, let's ride out this month together! And I'm sorry to hear that baby shower hit your DH and you like a ton of bricks. That sucks.

This weekend I already spent a good bit of time doing things I feel I deserve a pat on the back for (I like this thing you've started @jenmlangtake2 ), I spent last night and this morning with DH's niece and nephew (little handfuls to say the least), and that involved taking niece to her dance class this morning, where there are kiddies and families and mommies galore. Not a fun place for TTCAL me, menstruating away. But I did it with a smile on my face. THEN when DH and I dropped into Babies R US to look for an "you think I'm cute you should see my auntie" type of onesie for my soon to be nephew, who do we run into but my bro and SIL doing their registry. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Will spend the rest of the weekend watching House of Cards (@BornReady yes worth it!) and maybe Fuller House thanks to you ladies!

I just have to say that I'm always amazed to read through these GTKY threads and find out how much we all have in common. :)

  • Hi all,

Last night DH and I rented Room.  Brunch this AM and then did taxes and laundry (and some online shopping).  Dinner party at a friend's tonight; actively avoiding a babyshower for a coworker cuz I'm not in the mood.  I feel kind of bad cuz I've intentionally avoided at least 3-4 of these in the past 6 months but I just can't deal.

Tomorrow I think our only plan is to go to the gym.  The apartment needs to be cleaned, but I'm not doing it this weekend!

In other news, my cycle is being wonky and I can't tell if I'm about to ovulate or not.  So we're HIO but I think we're both (or at least I am) a bit tired of it already.  Blah.

@SnobunnieMel - I don't have any advice, but welcome, and I hope the visit ends up going ok.

I hope everyone else is at least somewhat enjoying their weekends!
  • @catiecatp Looks great! I think I may have heard of it before and promptly forgot. Will find and read.

@BornReady Oh my gosh, thank you so much. We are really trying to build shelter with each other and the people we love and I hope that I can bring some that here to all of us.

@beff12 Gilmore Girls is probably my favourite thing ever to be on television. It's like the tv show equivalent of a hot bath.

@cjs260 It was great! So lively. Toronto is super committed to community farmers markets, so I do miss the summer ones we can just walk to, but we found a bunch of heirloom seeds for our garden this year.

@SnobunnieMel Welcome! Sorry for your loss.

@megsbrock *follicular phase dance* Let's do this! I actually feel great about having someone on the same cycle day as me.

@ Anyone I missed, sorry I'm trying to shove this extra spicy coconut curry roti in my mouth while watching tv and talking to you all.

  • @cooaladoll what is this pallet project? Pics??

@snobunniemel I hope your SIL's visit is going okay. Is she staying with you the whole time? I would just be honest with her and let her know that you aren't in the best place emotionally and seeing her and her LO may be difficult, apologize in advance if you need to be a bit of a hermit this weekend. And then binge watch the heck out of HOC!

We did absolutely nothing yesterday and it felt great! Today we have to rip out old linoleum from our bedroom (ripped out the carpet and discovered there were no wood floors underneath like we had hoped for...) and prep the floors for new wood! Not looking forward to the work, but I am looking forward to moving back into our bedroom.

  • So I haven't worked on my taxes yet. I did figure out how to get the info I need though. Also I did nothing yesterday. Well I did shoveled and then went to the gym. After that I took a 3 hour nap. Ugh I have been so tired lately. Today I am being more productive.

@roper2617 Did you make it to the movies? My parents go ice fishing all winter long. I'm cool with just staying on land.

@bornmommy DH and I have been watching Fuller House together. We haven't been watching more than 2 episodes at a time because we don't have a whole lot of time together.

@jennmlangtake2 TBell sounds amazing! I have been eating a Whole30 diet for a week. I want all the bad things.

@snobunnieMel. Sorry for your loss. Not sure how flexible your schedule is, I know when I first found out I went into work early so I could leave early and tried not to interact with coworkers to much.

@penelope4612 I feel you on getting tired of HIO. Its funny DH always was one to say that he wanted sex ED (before we were TTC). I don't have a high sex drive so I thought it was crazy. Now that we have been doing ED during FW he realized that he doesn't want sex ED.

@al_twincities I wish I could convince DH to get wood floors. He likes carpet in the bedrooms/living room.
