Driving

I'm having back pain when I'm driving for any length of time. Has anyone else experienced this and what helped bring some relief?

I use a bolster behind my back.  Now I am using a tube-shaped pillow, but before I got that I just bunched up a scarf into the right shape. And before that I used an empty cheap plastic water bottle:)  You sit in the car, lean forward, and then drop the bolster behind you so it sits as low as it can.

It fixed the problem I was having; maybe it'll work for yours!

Yes. If you have heated seats, turn on the heat, otherwise bring a hot water-pad or heated rice pad to put on your lower back. You may also need a small rolled towel/pillow to give extra lumbar support.

ETA: If you're able to adjust the tilt on your seat bottom, tilt it more forward so that you're sitting on your hip bones/thighs rather than putting pressure on your tailbone.
  • Thanks so much!!!
  • Would a pillow help? I haven't had that problem yet, but I think I'd try using a small pillow or something.

  • I have adjustable lumbar support in the seat that I have had to increase over the past couple of weeks. I also swapped which vehicle was my primary (was driving a sedan, now a minivan) because sitting more upright helped me out.
  • Yeah, I'm rolling up my coat and wedging it between my back and the seat.  It's a real drag :(

  • Yep! I have adjustable lumbar support and heated seats but I can't bring myself to turn on the heat in the Texas weather because I'm already so warm! Second the moving the seat more upright; it has helped so much even though I feel like a really old lady..
