FET vs Fresh

Our first fresh transfer ended with a D&C. We're going to do a FET in April which our RE says has a higher chance of being successful. First, I don't understand why we did the fresh cycle in the first place if frozen has higher rates of success.. Does anyone have any links to show that frozen is the better way to go? He didn't have an explanation that I understood. We have two day 5 and one 6 day blast frozen. Has anyone had a failed fresh cycle but then a successful frozen afterwards?

Re: FET vs Fresh

  • @thejessicanicol I'm sorry to hear of your loss. The main reason that FET seems to be more successful, is that your body has a lot of hormones in it after the stims, and that may not be a great home for an embryo. How my doc explained it was this: we put a lot of estrogen into your body with the stims. If we then put in a baby, your estrogen will continue to go up from an already high number. That can be dangerous for you, and not allow an embryo a chance. Your RE may have determined that you were not overstimmed so it was not dangerous to do a transfer. There are many, many on this forum and others that had a failed fresh and then went on to have a successful FET. I don't have a link to show the numbers though. Praying for your piece of mind.

  • What PP said! I had no success with my fresh transfer but **trigger warning** with my second FET I got a positive. It definitely has to do with your hormones being crazy for stimming. I don't know why they ever suggest a fresh transfer. In hindsight I wish we hadn't done one and saved those two embryos we transferred.

Same here, my fresh transfer was last July and that ended in a miscarriage (no heartbeat) but our frozen embryo transfer in December resulted in a positive, so far so good.
I have also been told that the success rate with frozen transfers is slightly higher, the rates at my clinic show this, I don't know the exact numbers tho.

  • ***miscarriage, bfp, children mentioned***
Our fresh transfer ended in a miscarriage. Our frozen transfer got a bfp and we now have 3 month old, fraternal twins.
I wouldn't change anything because it gave us our beautiful children, but I do agree that the frozen transfer was a lot easier physically and emotionally.

    I wish you ladies luck!
