Early Third Trimester Diarrhea?

Did anyone else experience this?
Outside of pregnancy diarrhea is very very rare for me. I would normally only get it if I was quite sick. However, I seem to have it now...it came on yesterday. I don't feel particularly ill and I don't have a fever. I originally thought it was happening right after I ate, but now it doesn't seem to be that way. It just seems like my bowel movements have changed into this - not to be TMI or anything but it seems like my gut just wants to clear itself out all at once.
Should I be really concerned? Babe is still moving just fine and I'm drinking water :)
I get SO paranoid that I could be harming the baby if it is bacterial or viral :(

Re: Early Third Trimester Diarrhea?

  • I've been going through something similar. Everyone says constipation but I haven't really had that much at all aside from a few days where I knew I wasn't drinking enough. Lately my system has been cleaning house on a regular basis. So here is my TMI . . . even when its a bit more solid its um . . . floaty . . . which is a new one for me. Doc said no worries unless I'm throwing up or feeling ill.

  • I think @laurenmdrn16 may have some thoughts on this!! ;)
  • That's about what mine is like too - the floaty bit @.@  I guess there's no such thing as TMI when it comes to health because we need to be as specific as possible in order to make sure things are okay! I was just worried since this is totally abnormal for me. I wonder if it has anything to do with pressure from baby? I know that diarrhea can be a sign of prelabor but I can't imagine that's what this is. Still quite early. Doesn't stop me from worrying!
  • I wouldn't say I have diarrhea, but I did go as much today as I normally would in 3-5 days. I have been a bit backed up, but definitely feel more cleared out. I haven't done anything different in the past few days, so not sure why my system is clearing out.

Looking forward to hearing others' thought on this!
  • Oh geez, I have had diarrhea for the past week non stop! In my case, it is lactose intolerance, but my OB wasn't super concerned about it.

  • Yes I've been having loose stools at least once a day. My dr gave me advice on how to stay hydrated and when to call (if it lasts all day for so many days). But it's common during this time in pregnancy as far as I know.
  • Geez I'm either constipated or super poopy.  There seems to be no in-between for me.  But I think its my fault, I realized bread was backing me up so I would be really good for a while, then I would forget, eat cheese on a roll and have to eat prunes the next day just to get back on track.
  • I was actually thinking about writing the exact same thing! I wouldn't say it's diarrhea per say, but definitely isn't "solid". It's been like this for a while, just figured it was pregnancy. I have to go a lot more too. Maybe it's because the baby is getting bigger and pushing on our intestines.

Dude, I think I may chance it tonight. Maybe I can pop some of MH's lactaid pills beforehand because the way this morning is going, I am either gonna need a Shamrock Shake or straight up whiskey to keep my cool.

  • Is this abnormal for anyone else? I NEVER, hardly ever, experienced this before or during 1st/2nd trimesters.
:/  I usually never reacted to food strangely. It was only ever either when I had a stomach flu (which was accompanied by throwing up) or when I got food poisoning once from a bad batch of fish and chips (ugh).
  • You are not alone!  When it strikes, I immediately think "did I eat something bad?"  but then I remember that I'm just pregnant. My unofficial opinion is that as long as you are staying hydrated and it doesn't go on for days, you're probably in the "normal, pregnancy" category.

Looking forward to getting back to my normal bowel habits in a few months!

  • Things finally cleared up! I went three days experiencing this, and then I  took one dose of imodium. Not sure if this is what  helped, but since then I have had no bowel movement  at  all @.@  Go Figure. My doctor said it  could have been a viral thing since my immune system is lower being pregnant. Who knows! Just glad that  part  is over.
