Baby Restless sleep at night?

Hi all. Wanted to see if there are others with this issue (if you can call it that). I have a video monitor and my daughter is now sleeping in her crib at 9 weeks. Transition went well. We put her down between 9-10pm and she will fuss for a bit but then is silent until I go in and nurse around 5 or 6. Then she is silent again until I get her around 9am.

Here os the issue:
(1) multiple times in the night when I check the monitor she is awake. Just laying there moving her head a little and hanging out. I'll check again later and she's asleep. Happens multiple times a night but she never fusses, just chills out. Sometimes kicks around and grunts but no crying or fussing. Should I be concerned that she isn't getting enough sleep? Or good sleep? She's happy when I get her at 9 but still has a mini witching hour. Getting her to nap is a whole desperate issue that I am about at my wits end on.

(2) my pediatrician said I can follow her lead with nighttime feedings. Well if I waited for her to cry/fuss to feed her I don't think she would eat at night. Should I just let her go longer? Right now it's almost an 8 hour stretch or more between feedings. But I will say that when I basically wake her up to nurse at 6 she GUZZLES like she's starving.

any commiseration, advice, is welcome!

Re: Baby Restless sleep at night?

  • It actually sounds completely normal to me. We don't have a video monitor but have an audio one in DS's room. He wakes up several times in the night, doesn't fuss but turns his crib soother on. He's 16 months. DD's crib is by my bed and I see her doing the same sort of thing. She'll lay there staring off, kinda chilling, then goes back to sleep. I don't get her unless she sleep tarts really fussing like she needs something. She will sometimes go as long as 10 hrs overnight but still obviously gaining weight and having sufficient number of wet diapers so I'm going with it.

  • Yeah, this is one reason I am glad we only have audio, not video. He can hang out all he wants at night as long as he isn't crying. I think it is healthy and good for them to be able to just be by themselves. Hopefully will eventually help them learn to self-soothe and put themselves back to sleep.
  • Does she always cry when hungry?

My girl doesnt cry at all when she is hungry. She actually does a really heavy breathing and eats her hands. So in my case I would assume she is hungry if she eats her hands or smacks her lips.
  • @Knottie65841689 we swaddle her arms so she wouldn't be able to suck her hands but now that you say that she doesn't always cry when she's hungry. But cries if I don't get the boob out fast enough or if she is really hungry and I'm not figuring it out fast enough for her lol.

I I tried crib napping for the first time today too and she is doing the same thing as far as awake and lying there then dozing off...
  • @Mizuiro007 yeah she is gaining weight and definitely enough wet diapers so I am trying to just go with it (I am a worrier by nature!!). I guess I will just go with it!
