I'm crossing my fingers all goes well for you. @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt
I completely understand your worries, it is torture, the not knowing. I am debating on pushing for an early ultrasound myself because the next 4-6 weeks waiting for that first U/S are going to be pure hell for me. I've been through a loss before and it's heartbreaking.

    Please keep us posted. Hugs.
  • @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt - sending you lots of positive, healthy vibes.  I hope the time passes quickly and everything goes well.

  •  I had a breakdown in tears just after my last post. My first ultrasound isn't until the 23rd. I think I'll probably have a panic attack going in to each of mine for the first while... Especially our dreaded 12 week milestone. @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt sticky baby wishes and thoughts coming your way!
  • I will be thinking of you today and sending positive wishes your way. I totally get the random crying jags and not knowing is the worst. hang in there and remember all these relatively random, but caring strangers who are on your side. @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt

  • Best wishes @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt! I'm thinking of you today!
  • Thanks guys.

Apparently I don't do a beta today. I did take my last FRER and the test line was so dark it was making the control line faint so I suspect my hCG is well over 500. I know it's not a perfect science but after looking at several hundred FRERs matched to betas, it looks like it's atypical for the test line to be that much darker until a beta of around 1000, so I'm saying 500 to give some wiggle room. Anyway, I think it's probably close enough that I am fairly safe in assuming it's still doubling (148 Saturday should mean at least ~600 today.) so we'll see what the ultrasound shows. I have to go to clinical skills first (where I will be unable to focus) and then I'm heading to the clinic.

    Thanks for thinking of me.

  • Thinking of you today @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt. I had betas drawn today and am going for an ultrasound this afternoon as well. The blood is now dark brown/maroon but I'm expecting the worst at this point, even if today's ultrasound is promising, it doesn't mean much to me...my ultrasounds were positive last time too (including a heartbeat at 6w) so I'm feeling pretty down.

  • Well, surprise, surprise, surprise. Sac was definitely in the uterus and they saw no signs of ectopic (masses, fluid, extrauterine sac.) It's not a sure thing yet since ectopic pregnancies can result in an intrauterine pseudosac (which I had with the last) but my RE said that everything actually looks normal. He seemed surprised too, though he was happy with my betas so we won't be repeating them.

Baby wasn't seen (I'm 5+2 by the date we're using for LMP but I think I'm actually only 5+0) so that's not unexpected. Ultrasound next Tuesday - my birthday - when we can hopefully see a heartbeat.

Well this just made me cry.  I am a mess when women who struggle so much get positive news. sending you all the positive energy I can muster that everything keeps moving along just as it should!!
  • That is all such great news!!! I know you're probably already thinking ahead to the next can and worrying. I know I do. But, today things sound good. Congrats!!
  • Thinking about you and hoping for good news. @comealongponds
  • So glad you got good news @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt!!

My ultrasound went pretty much the same as yours...a gestational sac measuring on time (5w5d by LMP but possibly as little as 5w3d based on O date), but nothing else that the tech would/could tell me except "it's early" and "call your doctor tomorrow for results", which isn't reassuring at all. As I said, I'm still on the more cautious side since this is exactly how my loss started out last time with added pain this time around so we're still in limbo. More betas on Friday, and a progesterone that I plan on writing onto my req (shh don't tell haha). Trying to think positive thoughts for all of us.

I'm feeling pretty cautious too. It's hard to accept not-bad news when you've been through hell before. I do hope you get good results from your betas and that your next scan shows a heartbeat.

  • Here's a question... I have a scan Friday and doc says I'll be 6w1d, I think I'll be 5w7d. Anyway, at that point I should see growth in the sac (was 5mm) and a yoc sac right? Maybe or maybe not yet a heartbeat?

@KilgraveMadeMeDoIt is likely the better one to answer but my understanding is that you should see some growth of the sac, a yolk sac and maybe a fetal pole. Heartbeat is unlikely but not impossible at that gestation, so don't be disappointed if you don't see one!

  • Dang, I spelled Yolk like an idiot. ;) Anyway, thanks for weighing in. Of course I googled it, but there was quite a range of what to expect. Thanks! @comealongponds

Maybe yes, maybe no. This early on, it's not that surprising to not see stuff sometimes. At what turned out to be 6 weeks with my daughter (they thought I was further along because of my beta and uncertain dates, I'm going backwards based on CRL at 7+3) there was no yolk sac or foetal pole visible at all. Ten days later, lovely little heartbeat.

Hmmmm, okay and good to know. I'm learning to handle not knowing and not having solid gold news. I guess I'm hoping for no bad news at this point, which feels lame. Thanks!! @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt

It's absolutely maddening, isn't it? No bad news is probably good news at this point, really, as intensely frustrating as that is. I've been going absolutely mad the last week and I still have longer to wait to be sure.

Also, just want to be clear that I'm not giving any medical advice here; I've just been down this road a LOT and so I know a lot of this off the top of my head from my own experience.

(We have to be careful about what we say when it comes to things that might be taken as medical advice when we're just training)

  • I totally get it. I appreciate your perspective from your experience. It's nice to be able to pick the brain of someone with some medical background, but I value the voice of experience with this stuff even more. I totally get that it's not medical advice. @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt
  • Thanks. We actually have policies when it comes to the use of social media and stuff so I'm just veeeery careful. :)

  • I guess I should introduce myself here. I've had three miscarriages over the two years since we decided to try to have a child. Well, two were actual first tri miscarriages and the third one my water broke at 16 weeks. Which obviously does not end well. I've had lots of tests, but no cause has been found. This time around I'm on progesterone and will be having a cerclage just in case. The sudden shock of having my water break in the second trimester was awful and I'll do anything to avoid that again.
  • I'm sorry, @CecilTheBear , that does sound awful. I hope you have an easy pregnancy this time!

  • Hi all! This is my 3rd pregnancy. I have a 2 year old. I miscarried in Oct 2015, on my birthday. Happy Birthday to me! I was 10 weeks but found out through u/s that the fetus stopped developing at 9 weeks. My EDD is 10/29 but my guess is I will go late so I'm hanging out here :) Praying for a sticky baby this time!
  • Hi Y'all!

So this is my second pregnancy.. The first one was about 2 years ago and a very emotional and not a healthy point in my life. I was in a bad relationship and got pregnant randomly. I went through a lot of negative emotions and stress and found out at my 9th week check up that the baby had no heartbeat.

I never really got to speak about it but now I am with someone else and I'm super happy and healthy and I just found out we're expecting. I have my first doctors appointment this coming week and I'm so nervous.

I think it's a combination of being so excited and wanting to pass the time until I'm 3 months. I just want this pregnancy to be very positive and happy. I don't know that much about the early stages of pregnancy but I'm just trying to figure it out as I go.

If there's anyone that has good recommendations on foods, prep and personal experience I would love to hear! Also has anyone else have the feeling of making a bowel movement but it's hardly anything?

Congrats to all my November moments to be! I can't wait for us all to have happy healthy babies!

Hello all. I just got my BFP this morning. It was super light but it was there. My EDD is November 21. This is my second pregnancy. I lost the first one naturally at 11 weeks in November 2015. I had a missed mc and a blighted ovum (measuring 6+2). That was the hardest thing I have ever gone through and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

So far I am not freaking out, which I am thankful. But I am sure it will come. This pregnancy is so different than the first already. I haven't really had many symptoms yet except for a lot of cramping. With my first I was super hungry and thirsty right away.

Should I be asking my doctor for betas or anything else since I had a loss? My office sees you at 8 weeks then every 4, with the first ultrasound being the anatomy scan. I guess I am wondering how everyone else's are being handled.

Also could I suggest we start a weekly thread soon? This thread is getting quite long to go through and I don't want to mistakenly comment to someone that may no longer be here (which hopefully isn't the case for anyone).

Edited: dating and anatomy scan are not the same.

  • @alanaw121 FX for a sticky one for you. You must be one strong woman/mama.

@jennihaze @honeybeewebb2424 @riversong15 I have my test in a zip lock bag as well. I must confess, I still have my tests from my first pregnancy/loss, it's the only evidence I have of the pregnancy.

@kilgravemademedoit Glad the hear that things seem to be looking good so far!

  • @m6agua my doc had planned on not seeing me until 8w, but since I had some severe pain and bleeding I ended up going in early and getting a viability ultrasound (so far this is a repeat of the process from my loss). Since the ultrasound showed a subchorionic hematoma (and TWINS!), I have to go for a repeat next week. If you've only had one loss, I think docs typically proceed expecting everything to be normal; it's only after recurrent losses you are watched closely.

That said, you could request betas if you think it would give you peace of mind to have tangible numbers. Hoping for a sticky baby for you!

Should we pick a day to start our PGAL check-in each week since there's quite a few of us now?

  • @m6agua - Congratulations!   I also am due 11/21.  I personally haven't asked for any extra testing (betas) because of my early loss.  For me all those numbers would be just one more thing to stress about.  I'd rather suck it up and wait for a dating ultrasound at 8 weeks.  But I think it's personal preference.

I agree we should change this to a weekly thread.

Omg Congratulations !! I'm so excited to see you here @m6agua !!!!

ETA My Dr offered me betas right away. I would just ask for them if it makes you feel better. Much better than POAS and comparing them every other day, which I've been doing!
  • Congrats @m6agua!!!!! I'm so glad to see so many TTCAL grads here!

My my office is treating this like any normal pregnancy. No betas at all. However, they do a viability ultrasound at the first appointment (around 8 weeks). If I had to wait until the anatomy scan to know everything was OK, I'd go crazy!
