Re: March Symptoms

  • UGH heartburn, heartburn, heartburn. It will be the death of me.

to all you ladies suffering with heartburn I have found that drinking a small glass of milk before bed helps me not wake up breathing fire.
  • Loading the player...
  • @noelietrex @elenabrent I put coconut oil on my belly immediately after the shower, then top it off with some Lubriderm. I'm very rarely itchy anymore.
  • Is it okay to still sleep on my back I was always a side sleeper but with this muscle pain it flares up more when I am on my side.

Also so is anyone else looking more flushed or more red cheeks I feel like my cheeks are constantly flushed right now

  • @LF93 What kind of spots? Anything that starts out as spots and then spreads and gets itchy should be discussed with your doctor.

@Lindsayleigh1989 You're not really supposed to sleep on your back past 20 weeks but I always end up that way for a bit. It's okay to do if you can prop yourself up so you're on an incline. If you do that it helps to put pillows under your knees too for support. Do you have a snoogle? I broke down and bought one last weekend and it's pretty well the best decision I've ever made. I've been sleeping like a baby! And those red cheeks are all the extra blood - it's your pregnancy glow!
  • @Lindsayleigh1989 I'm 22w and sleep on my back all of the time. I don't usually wake up like that but I do fall asleep better that way. It doesn't hurt me and it feels better on my back. What exactly is the reason that back sleeping is a bad thing ? Circulation issues ?
  • @noelietrex and @elenabrent and all other itchy ladies- Eucerine Original Healing Soothing Repair Creme !! This is the stuff we use in the hospital for extreme dry skin conditions, psoriasis eczema etc. The consistency is outrageously thick and is best used at night so it has time to soak in but it's MAGIC.
  • @Lindsayleigh1989 I try my best not to sleep on my back but I always wake up that way. It just feels better to me. Sleeping on my sides hurts my hips a lot. I'm thinking of investing in a snoogle.
im not sure of the reason why we aren't supposed to sleep on our backs but I've heard it's dangerous for us (not the baby) because it puts extra weight on our lungs. So maybe as long as we're breathing fine it's ok? Hopefully someone else knows the answer to this question

This is the reason you're not supposed to sleep on your back:
When you lie belly-up, the weight of your uterus can compress a major blood vessel, called the vena cava, disrupting blood flow to your baby and leaving younauseated, dizzy, and short of breath. The best way to sleep during the second half of pregnancy is on your side. Can I still sleep on my back while I'm pregnant? - Parents.comhttps://www.parents.com/advice/pregnancy-birth/my-pregnant-body/can-i-still-sleep-on-my-back-while-im-pregnant/

Thanks @silvers626I googled it too after I commented. I'm willing to risk it for now. I kind of hate all of the pregnancy rules.

When you get further along the symptoms mentioned above will make it nearly impossible to sleep on your back. I've heard of doctors saying it's fine to do until it makes you uncomfortable and with my first that was around 29 weeks. If I laid on my back for even a few minutes I would be really uncomfortable and not able to breathe and I would feel my legs go numb. But you'll know when the time comes for you!

  • @Lindsayleigh1989 I take my snoogle and put it behind me, like it's big spoon and I'm little spoon. Then I put a second, regular-sized pillow under my belly for extra support. I can then sleep part-way on my side but lean on the snoogle behind me to take some of the pressure off my side/hips and feel more like I'm laying on my back.

The past two days have been really scary because I'm getting this extreme dizziness and feeling so lightheaded. I put it down to blood pressure drops but I called my midwife today and she suspects it's my iron level. It was low to begin with but she said she thinks it's dropped (normal). So iron drops, here I come!
I've been having this too. The other day I worked until midnight and had to be back at 8am for a training and then work my regular evening 3-12 the same day. I was ok most of the morning but had a lot of difficulty breathing (normal, I know) and dizziness to the point I felt I was going to black out in the afternoon. I ended up going home early and chalked it up to being sleep deprived, but I'm still getting the dizzy spells. I see my OB next week and I'm hoping he has an explanation/ solution. A couple BTDT  mom friends suggested it could be a blood sugar thing, and I know my OB is sending me for GD testing when I see him so maybe that? I'll ask him about my iron levels though, mine have been borderline low since I was a kid, so that's good to know.
  • Back pain, back pain, back pain. First time I was pregnant, everyone was all "don't lift anything over 15 pounds!" "Let me lift that for you!" etc. This time, I have a 35 pound 2 year old who I'm with all the time, and no one wants to lift anything for me. My BACK IS KILLING ME.
  • @givemepenguinss my back is killing me too. And I think I have to give it up and stop sitting in the little chairs at school. They are doing me no favors right now.

  • @jennyleigh16
You could always start taking iron supplements until you see your OB. There is a brand called Floravit and it's a liquid, food based iron supplement for pregnant woman. The recommended dose is 20ml 2 times a day. You can find it at any natural or health food store. It's nasty but it is really fast working and will boost your levels until you see your OB.
  • @sayerhart   Thanks for the tip! My dad has hemochromatosis where his body doesn't filter iron out naturally and needs medical intervention. It's hereditary and I was tested for it years ago, but it doesn't usually present until later in life, so I'm always hesitant to take iron supplements just in case. If my OB clears it, I'll definitely look for that brand. I didn't know there was a liquid form.
  • When I wake up on my back I actually do feel like it's harder to breathe, but I seem to wake up that way a lot.. Don't know how to stop myself. I do roll on my side if I wake up on my back, though.
  • Does anyone have hip and upper leg pain when waking up in the morning? I've tried sleeping on both sides, with the pillow or Snoogle between my legs, but that seems to make it worse.
  • I keep waking up on my back.. yesterday my feet were asleep and it took awhile to get feeling back. Today I woke up with weird indigestion, and it hasn't gone away all day even with my tricks I use that usually work. Has anyone heard of getting that from lying on your back?
  • The last two days I've had slight swelled in my feet and discomfort in one calf. I'm a teacher, and I've been at work until 8 both nights, so I think it's related to that. I'm hoping that putting my feet up when I can (later in the evening) will help. I just feel like this is a little early to be having that symptom.
  • I know a lot of you ladies are having back, hip and sciatica pain and I have found that the TRX at my gym is my best friend for these pains. Some stretches that help are:
Back: Keep you feet hip distance apart and have both hands in the TRX handles then lean forward while keeping your back straight and bending at your hips. It stretches out everything from shoulders to lower back. Another good one is to hold on and sit almost in a squat hanging from your hands. This pulls and aligns the back.
Hips: Use the TRX to support you while doing side lunges and lean into it. The TRX straps support you so you don't over exert.
Sciatic: Put one foot on the the opposite leg (like the figure 4 pose in yoga) and hold the TRX straps with both hands leaning backwards into your butt until you feel the stretch. This is a popular hip stretch that you can do on the floor, but the TRX makes it more intense and stretches the back and shoulders along with it.
Here's a link for a bunch of TRX stretches: https://www.trxtraining.com/train/trx-stretching-flexibility-matters

I also found that the foam roller helps with both my sciatic pain and back pain. Here is a link to a bunch of foam roller stretches: https://www.prevention.com/fitness/strength-training/foam-roller-strengthen-muscles-and-relieve-pain

    I hope this helps!
  • @elldel ALL THE HIP PAIN! Especially from sleeping. I have tried every pillow arrangement under the sun and I still wake up with one hip feeling smashed and the other feeling out of place. I also have hypermobility so this relaxin bullshit is making my life hell right now. HELL I TELL YOU.
  • I was stuck in an auditorium chair for 4 hours yesterday, so it was inevitable that I'd have back pain. However, I guess it progressed its way down while I was sleeping - by the middle of the night, it felt like someone had punched me in the left butt cheek. Weird. It went away by morning, but that was pretty uncomfortable for a while!

eta qbf Also, you don't need to be completely on your side. Even a small tilt removes the pressure from the vena cava. For example, in C/S's they put a folded up towel under a hip. It doesn't take much.  So I lay on my back but tend to have a small tilt to either side.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • @PugsandKisses that makes me feel better. I don't want to be causing any damage but if I have no symptoms it's hard to force yourself to lie a certain way.

  • -Leg & foot cramps. Ouch ouch ouch.
-Abdominal tightness. I guess that's how I'd describe it. I don't notice it unless I'm stretching (like when I first wake up and roll over in the morning), but it kind of feels like my ab muscles are ripping 1000 little tears rather than just stretching. It doesn't hurt; it just doesn't feel like my 'normal' stretch.
    -SO. ITCHY. EVERYWHERE.
-Nausea has made a comeback this week. It's always the worst when I first wake up & then reappears in random waves throughout the day.
-Fatigue/insomnia. I pass out as soon as my head hits the pillow every night, but then 3am rolls around and I'm wide awake for a good 2 hours, irritated by the fact that I cannot fall back asleep. It doesn't matter if I go to bed at 9pm or 1am...this happens every single night like clockwork.
-Vivid dreams. I usually don't remember dreaming, but I've had multiple dreams over the past week that have been completely bizarre or really upsetting and have woken me up. Some of them feel so real.

I think that's all I've got for now. I've been super stressed out so I feel like that's gotta be playing into the nausea, insomnia, and vivid dreaming to some extent.

Oh yeah, I also sneezed and felt myself pee a little for the first time last night at 21+5.
  • I have been battling Charlie horse style leg cramps nightly! I know I am drinking plenty of water and to expect them as a part of pregnancy but it's a terrible way to wake up in the middle of the night.
  • Allergies! They decided to rear their ugly head this week and I'm not excited about it. I get really bad allergies and every time I sneeze I have to be careful not to pee!
Still nauseated some days but so much better than before.
No real belly button change for me yet. Do need to get a new belly ring soon though.
Some stretching pains that my abs aren't too happy about but nothing that's not manageable.
Sleep issues is what's getting me and those are mostly due to allergies.
Sorry to all the ladies suffering with so many things!!

Oh those are the worst! I haven't had any yet this pregnancy but I am not looking forward to those at all.
  • @oneliloaktree13This was definitely my husband tonight - he's been asleep on the basement couch now for 2 hours. I warned him I'd be giving him no sympathy tomorrow when his neck/back are sore!
  • That's me 50% of the time, the other 50% I have insomnia...like right now.

When I was pregnant with DS, my husband would get so annoyed with me because we'd start watching a show, and then I'd pass out on the couch. This time around I admit defeat shortly after DS is in bed and tuck myself in.

I have a feeling DS is not going to be sleeping in tomorrow morning... I'm already regretting still being awake right now! Sending slumber-ful thoughts your way!
