***Questions in R/R/CS***
Month / Cycle: 6/5
CD / DPO: 19/4
Timing: -5, -3,- 2, 0
Testing: Probably around 10DPO - depending on how my chart looks.
R/R/CS: Okay, so I don't have a regular OBGYN as I have always gone to my PCP for everything including paps. I just love my PCP doctor and it was easier to just go to her - a one stop shop. But given that we've been TTC, I think its about time I set something up with an actually OBGYN. A couple questions - do they run any tests right off the bat when you indicate your TTC? So far everything seems to be okay. All cycles since September have been 27-29 days with ovulation confirmed through charting. Also, at what point can DH get a SA done? Is this something he could do now or something they make you wait until after a year of trying?
courtney7784 I did a preconception appointment with my OB/GYN and DH came with. She did my pap because I was due but other than that, just gave us a few tips and tricks when TTC. No testing is done unless your family has a history of certain diseases which in that case then you would do genetic blood testing. Other than that, until something goes wrong such as loss or infertility, no tests are run.
@courtney7784I had a pre-conception with my OB/GYN last year when we first started talking about TTC and she basically told me to eat healthy and take a pre-natal vitamin and call her 6months after we started trying if nothing had happened yet. No testing at all.
Testing Plans: Daily cheapies, FRER on Sunday if nothing
R / R / CS: I'm betting I'm probably out for this cycle since I'm still not turning any lines (but my symptommmssss that are totally real and not in my head at all). We'll see how long it takes for AF to kick in since it's my first post-Mirena.
GTKY: Are you related or distantly related to anyone famous? Not that I'm aware of.
@courtney7784 - unless there's a reason, no tests are generally done until you've reached 12 months of TTC. If you have a history of reproductive or other issues or your over 35, there's nothing to look at, yet. You can buy an at home SA, but I have no idea how accurate those are. I wouldn't drive yourself nuts with that just yet.
@courtney7784 like PP, I had a pre-conception appointment too and she basically just told me about eating healthy, exercise, when to have sex to optimize chances, etc. She ordered a genetic test (blood) at this appointment because my newborn niece had just tested positive as a carrier for cystic fibrosis. Other than that, she told me to come back in 6 months if I was not pregnant. She did no other testing at that time. She did give me a bunch of prenatal vitamin samples to try and then once I found one I liked, she called in a 12 month prescription for me.
I was just there a few weeks ago for my annual appointment and at that time, (I'm finishing cycle 4 and if I'm not pregnant will be on cycle 5 at the end of the week) she gave me a referral for my husband to have a SA if my current cycle and 5th cycle do not result in pregnancy. She just wanted me to have the paperwork so I wouldn't have to come back to her in another month or so if I needed the referral for him.
I think each doctor seems to be a little different in when they do testing, and they also take past history into account, so this likely impacts testing/recommendations.

I wouldn't drive yourself nuts with that just yet.
The home SA is a pass/fail that looks at count only. You could still have crappy motility or morphology, but count seems to be the most common one. I ordered one off Amazon for $38 earlier this month and it's a bit like reading an HPT, any line is positive/passed/good count. I figured it would be good to test before trying an very-frequent sex schedule in the FW and H passed.
My preconception appt is taken care of by my PCM with IUD removal and routine annual blood work that I would get TTC or not. CBC or thyroid and always vitamin D due to deficiency despite supplementation. My insurance won't cover an OB referral without it being something crazy my PCM has never seen before (never happened) or a + urine pregnancy test and even then the OB won't see me until 8-12 weeks barring miscarriage (only because mine end up complicated).
Thanks for the info ladies! I wasn't sure if they ran any basic blood tests or what not. My PCP gave me the run down of diet and exercise plus prenatals at my annual exam when I mentioned TTC. It sounds like the appointment with an OBGYN would be a lot of the same. If I hit the sixth month slump, I will probably want to see about DH getting the SA at that point just to rule that out or pinpoint if that's an issue moving forward.
@courtney7784 I had a preconception appt with my 1st and they did run blood work but it was to test for chicken pox and rubella immunity since I didn't know if I had ever had chicken pox. Turned out I wasn't immune so they advised me to get the shot prior to starting TTC as it can be dangerous to the baby if you get chicken pox while pregnant. Other than that just as everyone else said, exercise, healthy eating and prenatal talk.
R / R / CS: I've officially boarded the crazy train. I have a lot of sharp pains in my vagina today that I had with DS1. I'm trying so hard not to symptom spot but it's hard not to!

@LoulieFace yes I believe cramping could be O related. I found it pretty amazing to notice the O symptoms once I started paying attention to them. I usually stay in WTO until FF confirms O but I'm sure no one minds if you post here instead. The only thing I would add is to make sure you don't stop HIO until O is confirmed. It's not unusual to have one high temp that throws you off.
Testing Plans: I bought my first batch of wondfos, so I'll probably start Sunday.
R / R / CS: I took a break from temping this month. I know that it helps so many of you ladies, but it stresses me out so much. I've temped for three months, and this last tww I woke up several times during each night worried about my temps. If this isn't my month, I'm going back to temping next month to pinpoint O, but I don't think I'm going to temp through the rest of the tww.
