I would get crap from my social circle if we did that. But I've never had the urge though which helps. I do love to see how people decorate for them though. Yours is very cute @jlmartinez517
Don't hate them, but wasn't organized enough to have one. We called our parents and posted this on social media with a caption about how our house has always been 2v2, but come July the boys will have the advantage. We found out the sex at an emergency ultrasound I had due to bleeding. I was so relieved everything was OK, finding out the sex wasn't as exciting as I anticipated.
I just called everyone and told them. I don't hate a reveal, but I do think that the parents are usually the most excited and I'm not 100% sure what you do after the actual reveal. Woohoo, a boy/girl. Now what?
I did, however, do a reveal for my 3rd graders. They were pumped to find out, so I made them vote and then we made some graphs and analyzed the results of the vote. And then we ate cupcakes I had baked and put blue frosting into the middles. It was fun and they were much more into it than I think adults would be.
I didn't want to have a whole party centered on me and the baby, but I wanted to make it special for my family. They are THRILLED about the baby. So I asked my Dad if it was ok for us to reveal the baby's sex on his birthday. He loved the idea.
My whole family went out for dinner to celebrate Dad's birthday. We arranged ahead of time for the maitre'd to come to our table right before drinks were ordered, with a tray of blue cocktails covered with a big linen napkin. He said, "Happy birthday! Pickles and Mr. Pickles have a surprise for you!" and whipped off the napkin. My entire family looked, gasped, and went nuts. "It's a boy! It's a boy!" Dad cried and said it was his best birthday present.
It was such a fun night for my whole family, and now I'm crying happy tears as I type this. Hello, pregnancy hormones!
We didn't have a party per se, but we invited our immediate family over the night we found out the sex. I baked cupcakes that had pink batter in the middle and everyone but into it to find out. I also had everyone at my work and our families vote on what they thought Baby J would be (as a keepsake for the baby book).
I also did something special for at work cuz my co-workers were all very excited to know. I bought Hershey bars and colored the 'she' part with pink marker to announce.
That's so cute @jlmartinez517! We didn't do a party, but I did bake some brownies to share with my family-just added pink sprinkles. We don't see them as much since they live about 5 hours away, and they really loved it!
@Schmooie730 I like the Hershey's bar idea for the coworkers. I need to come up with something for Tuesday at work. I will leave work early Monday to go to our ultrasound. I only announced to my immediate team, but the rest of the department I work in is whispering. I feel like bringing in blue or pink cupcakes would make everyone much more comfortable. lol I just hate to make a big thing out of it. I don't mind the questions and stuff, I'm just not one to grab the mic and make a speech. Candy is subtle!
We are having a family dinner at a pizza parlor. This will be the first grandchild on my side of the family and my mom loves babies. So we went to party city together and got some green and white polka dot plates, napkins, forks, balloons and table cloth for the back room we reserved. She is coming to our 20 week scan on Monday and after that she will bake a cake that will have the cake batter dyed blue or pink. We also went to Hobby Lobby and got creative. I found the idea on Pinterest and the only difference is we will replace the baby with a ultrasound picture.
Side note: Please excuse the use of the word "gender" It's just the example I found on Pinterest.
We are taking pictures of me and LO's dad popping a balloon filled with either blue or pink confetti and glitter. My friends a photographer so I'm glad she's doing them for me. I mainly want to capture the moment I find out on camera and keep it forever versus just finding out in a doctors office. After we do those photos, we're having a family dinner and making a cake with either blue or pink dyed cake for the rest of them to find out what the baby is! This is all happening tomorrow and I'm SO excited!!
I wasn't really into having a reveal since this is our 3rd (2 girls already) but our families are soooo into these parties. So we got together with parents and siblings and our daughters dropped white bath bombs with a colored core into water and we all found out together which was really fun.
We didn't do a reveal party, just posted a picture of fb and sent to friends and family! I threw my sister a gender reveal party with close family and it was fun! She wanted to do the same for us but we live out of town from all the fam!
These are cute! I like the idea of a little get-together but DH isn't having it. We're keeping the sex of our baby a secret though (except for that time I told all my internet friends here on The Bump ) so a party would be pointless for us anyways.
Since this has been 9 years in the making, it was a very big deal to all around us. Though an actual party was impractical and I was too impatient My mom took off work part day so she could come with DH and I. Then I made a photo collage type thing to put on social media and send in texts.
You guys have done so many cute things! I didn't do a party or even a good announcement. I had all these great intentions of doing a super cute announcement (many of my friends and family live 2,000 miles away) on social media, but in the end I got lazy and just posted the US pic with "It's a Girl" on it. Lame!
July BMB Siggy Challenge: Weird Hot Dog Situations
We had one but it was very low key and last minute. My husband wasn't crazy about the idea mostly because he wanted to know right away. So the day of our appointment we ordered a cake through our grocery store which was the only place that did it in less than 24 hour notice, bought some pizzas and I tried to decorate after work. We just invited our parents and close friends. I was able to FaceTime some of my friends who couldn't make it. I'm really glad we did it.
With DD we went out to dinner with immediate family after the ultrasound. After dinner we passed out Hershey's bars and had family members color in he with blue sharpie or she with pink sharpie like w @Schmooie730 . Then we colored in she on our bar to announce!
This time I bought DD pink balloons and had her paint pink handprints on my shirt. I texted the picture out to family and friends but no get together this time.
My sister and BFF were insistant with throwing one for me, I told them to have at it. We're going to have a Star Wars themed nursery regardless of sex, so they themed the reveal like that. Thankfully we had the u/s Friday afternoon and they did the reveal that night.
They revealed to us by getting lightsabers and we lit them at the same time. It was really cute! Obviously by our clothes I really thought it was a boy and DH REALLY hoped it to be a girl (my whole family is full of little girls, whom he adores). Heres the video if anyone would like to view:
I love reveals! I had debated keeping the sexes a secret the entire time because I wanted to maximize the gifts we need and just only clothes. Since I'm having two showers, (two babies, no regrets here), the first shower will include the reveal. DH knows and will be working with one of my friend's who is throwing the shower to plan the reveal. I've been stalking her FB page and it looks like my reveal will be balloons in a box...should be fun!
Me: 32, DH: 38
Married 1/14/12
NTNP Since 12/13, TTC Since 1/15
BFP: 11/4/15 Found out we were having TWINS 12/9/15 EDD: 7/11/16 Born: 6/29/16
We find out tomorrow (hopefully) and because I am impatient I have announcements already prepared for Facebook since our families are all far away. I also made cupcakes for work with the colored frosting in the middle. (I have both colors ready to go).
The first time we had the U/S tech seal the sex in an envelope and then went out to lunch just the two of us and opened it. Then we tracked down a bakery that frosted a blue cupcake for us and we texted that picture to our families (who lived out of town at the time).
The he second time we just found out in the ultrasound room and then got DS1 a blue balloon to hold and texted that picture to our families.
This time we ended up going to an elective ultrasound place at 16 weeks and we found out together as a family (DH, myself obviously, and my two boys) then we bought balloons and dropped by my in laws house and let the boys carry their pink balloons inside. It was very low- key. Then we snapped a pic of the boys and texted that to my side of the family and everyone else we thought would want to know. And just to be clear, it is a singleton pregnancies. We just didn't want the boys fighting over the balloon.
We did one for our family and I posted pics on FB. It was fun and I just wanted to do something to involve DD. We filled balloons with water and paint and popped them. It was a lot of fun!
I'm not a fan of the whole party just to announce. It's such a thing now and it's awkward. Close family? Understandable. 30-40 of your "closest" friends, um no.
We have 2 daughters who are 3 and 5 and wanted to do something special with them since they understand what is going on. The results of my Panorama screen came back Dec. 30. The OB put the results in an envelope and we took it to the bakery. They made us a cake with filling.
For New Years Eve, we cut open the cake. DH, me and our 2 girls were the only ones that did it, but we recorded it and sent it to family to tell them.

Not really my style, but if a close friend or family member had one I would think it's cute. DH asked if I wanted to do a reveal party, and I suggested having a "Bun in the Oven" theme party. Ya know, just get together with some friends, hang out and eat Cinnabons. That's more my style

Umm... I'd like to have that party right now. By myself. All the cinnabons.
I don't like sex reveal parties and have declined to attend the ones I've been invited to. We're not having one and staying team green. I do however LOVE the cute reveal photos for social media! They're just great, fun content celebrating life! Especially the sibling ones- these photos are adorable and look like loads of fun for siblings
The first time, we found out on my birthday, so we just had cupcakes filled with blue frosting made. This time, we went with our immediate family after the ultrasound, and they found out with Hershey bars with "she" colored in (as others have mentioned). For Facebook, DH made a video shooting me and DS with silly string.
I will take any excuse to throw a party with our close friends and family. (I had a party when my 1st car hit 100k miles). Here is a picture for our reveal on a really hot day!

I hope my mother's intuition kicks in before this little girl is born.
