I have only posted here a couple times before but am finding myself lurk more and more to learn about toddlers, especially the questions about mealtime and foods! I have a picky eater already
Anyway, my son Ryan is 14 months and we are done with bottles, have been for a couple months. The sippy cups I use the most are the First Years Take and Toss cups. (Link below). He seems to like them, they are a good size, etc. They don't have the vales to take out and wash, etc. Am I supposed to be using a cup that is more like a real cup at this point and requires less sucking? It says on the reviews of these cups that they flow without too much sucking, but I still see Ryan sucking quite a bit to get the liquid out. I just am not sure if that sucking makes it more like a bottle and less like a cup. Should I be using a cup that has a valve to prevent leaks but doesn't require sucking? If so, any suggestions?
Re: Sippy Cup questions...
I went through many, many cups before finding one my son likes. He is now 19 months. We use the Playtex ones below. They are like $5 for 2 at Walmart. They have a rubber plug like thing in the lid that keeps it from spilling. The flow seems to be just right for him. I went through lots of others that were just too hard to clean. I too have used the disposable ones and he seems to like those too. What I do is take them all apart and soak them at night either in the sink or a large bowl. Then I run them through the dishwasher. Since doing that with these cups I haven't had any problems. The last ones would get milk stuck in the little wholes and I could never get them really clean so I gave up.

#1 - POST more and LURKE less! :-)
#2 - I think most sippy cups require some sucking. My daughter uses the one from tupperware - it also does not have any kind of valve and is a lot like your cup but not leak proof AT ALL! She still sucks on it. We have been practicing with a real cup a couple times a week. She does really well drinking but then wants to swing it around and spill alot. So we are learning. If you don't like the sippy cup option try straws! Still sucking though! But in a different way!
