Poop

Thought it'd be fun to have a light hearted discussion about poop. Schedule, funny faces/tells that show you it's poop time, funny stories, anything. Lets hear it!

Re: Poop

  • My DS is officially on a schedule of every morning before 9am. Then we are having one small one another time throughout the day. He makes it easy for me to tell, his face is so red and he grunts while pushing it out, then immediately it stinks. And he is always so happy afterward with his accomplishment! It almost makes me want to wait to change him because of how happy he is about it!

The other day I got poop under my fingernail while cleaning up. The joys of motherhood.

(As I write this, he's taking a huge dump on my lap. Loud juicy farts and all.)

  • DD is a serious pooper!  She grunts and makes facial expressions through the whole ordeal.  And man is it an ordeal...  Like the PP she is so happy afterwards as if she expelled a demon!

    Married - 10/10/2009

DS - Due 11/3/2012 born 9/28/2012 due to Severe Preeclampsia and HELLP Syndrome

    DD - EDD 12/30/15

  • My DD is not on much of a schedule yet.  I thought she was (once a day in the afternoons) but then she changed things up on me.  Multiple poops a day with one usually being HUGE.  My favorites are the blow outs that manage to go up her back.  So gross.  And the farts leading up to the poops, my god... sounds like a full grown adult.
  • We are taking baby massage and the instructor asked about how the stomach massage went she had taught the week before, and I told her he doesn't like it, he proceeds to have a very loud poop not even 10 minutes later she replied well he doesn't need the belly massage!

I'm consistently amazed at how much this little human can poop. And how he can get it out of his diaper despite all the diaper strategies we use.
  • Everyone gets a real kick out of how loud DD is when she poops. I've heard her from another room once, but it was a big one that went through her diaper, onsie, pants, down her leg to her socks and all over the RNP she was in. That was fun.

  • As impressive as I thought my kids were... My brother had his first Feb 8. Almost 1 week old they woke up to what they thought was him passing gas. They unswaddled him to be sure since he was awake and his diaper had been blown down around his knees. Poopy mess everywhere. Welcome to parenthood.

DS would have diarrhea so bad. He'd sometimes poop during diaper changes and as hubby would say it would spray out like a firehose. We learned to keep him aimed toward the wall.

With DD it's just the sound. It's so loud. It'll wake us up but she'll sleep right through it. It's always that juicy noise like a ketchup bottle that's getting low. She's currently on about a twice a day schedule. She'll have a healthy poop in the morning and again around bedtime. She's weirdly regimented with every thing she does. I wouldn't know except for with the tracking app on my phone but during the day she always wants fed exactly 1hr 45 mins.

Ok so i'm going to be the boring "omg is this normal" one but Olive doesn't poop and the pediatrician just keeps telling me it's normal.

She used to poop mustard brown seedy poop as I expected. Over time it got waterier and waterier. But it always happened a few times a day. Suddenly last week, after pooping sometime between 9pm tuesday and 8am wednesday, she didn't poop again until saturday afternoon. A watery, vile smelling chaos of mustard brown hell. It is now wednesday and she hasn't pooped since.

My pediatrician's office insists that this is normal for breastfed babies and not to worry, to give her 0.5-2oz of pear juice a day.

EDIT: Sorry ipad sucks and it posted before i was done writing.

Do any of your LOs just not poop? Is this normal? She farts a whole hell of a lot. I'm worried she's inherited my inflammatory bowel disorder..
  • @groovylocks TOTALLY normal for EBF babies to go days without pooping.  Kid#1 was on an every other day schedule.  Kid#2 would go five days to a week in between. Little Man, however, goes at least once a day.

Kid#1 was a champion long distance pooper.  She would crap a huge amount in her diaper and then would fire of a full stream of poop out of her butt during the diaper change that could reach four or five feet across the room.  First time that happened was at the NICU while my husband changed her.  He totally panicked and yelled at me to come help. She was also a champ at the out-the-back-up-the-neck blow outs in her car seat.  Welcome to parenthood, indeed.

Little Man just poops so dang loudly.  I always know when it happens.  And talk about being as pleased as a pig in $hit - this guy couldn't be happier then after he fires one off.
  • One of my twins only poops about every other day....stanky!!! The other on only goes once a day.
  • @groovylocks Zoe poops once a day if we're lucky. She has to catch her breath when she poops and it's terrifying. The pedi said it's completely normal.
  • My girl Ellie is about three times a day, so loud it wakes me up at night
  • We had a fussy night a couple days ago. Odie just wouldn't get comfortable! Poor thing. The next morning he settled down and was happy in his swing. Little did we know that under the blanket he had pooped everywhere. The clip of his swing is forever unclean. :-P

  • Wow, my girl must be a poop machine! Almost every diaper has poop in it. She was super grunty/gassy too until I cut out cheese and now she's a lot less gassy and doesn't grunt in her sleep anymore.
  • Nico is a huge pooper! He will only go a few hours without pooping and loves to have huge poops at night. Every now and then, he will still poop while I'm changing and it'll squirt everywhere!
  • LO changed recently (now 8 weeks). Was pooping a few times a day now it's more sporadic and a little thicker. Seems totally comfortable and no trouble when she poops so I'm not too concerned. I think just maturing digestive system.
  • Ezra now only poops about once every 3-5 days. But that one poop is a monster poop that usually takes at least 5 wipes and sometimes a bath to clean up. Luckily we haven't had a blowout but we cloth diaper so that might have something to do with it.
  • Jayce poops every morning around 8 or 9 and he farts like twelve times before whole grunting. Then it's usually two loud wet farts. He sometimes will poop again but usually it's only the once.

  • DD poops twice a day usually. The color changes too! I can tell what color it's going to be by the smell... If it's sharp and smells like a dumpster during a heat wave in August it's going to be greenish-brown, if it doesn't have much of a smell, it's going to be brownish-yellow. How can her poop change color when she eats the same thing all the time?! So strange.
  • Oh, here's her poop face (this was when she was just a few weeks old, but she still makes the same face, lol...

  • Jackson waits until I pick him up after work, every day around 6 pm I can expect one loud fart followed by several minutes of the nastiest smelling poop ever. He gets this blank look on his face and when it's over and he's clean he's always hungry, even if he ate just prior it's like he was making room.
  • Usually at least once a day though she just went a bit over 24 hrs which worried me. Here's her poop face though lol
  • I was having a bath with DS and he was all happy and I was holding him in my arms. He then looked up at me, had his cheeky smile on and shat everywhere, covered me and the bath and him!
    We both just laughed
  • Baby boy has gone from pooping every feeding to about three times a day. And so they are much larger....
Found out today we're at the stage where size 1 diapers result in blowouts all the way up the back, and size 2 diapers result in blowouts out the leg hole that require major cleaning of the carseat....where can we find size 1.5 diapers???
  • Omgggg us too. Blowouts the back with size 1 and out the leg with size 2

Same happened to us with transitioning from newborn to 1's. I found the leg holes on Huggies Snugglers were tighter than Pampers were so we got a box of Huggies and now that she's bigger the Pampers work great! Switch up brands and see if that helps. I've also heard Pampers baby dry are slightly smaller too

Good to know! Maybe we'll try Huggies size 2 for a bit before we use the too-big-pampers size 2 we have! Thanks!
  • Both DD's get the very calm, quiet concentration face when they are trying to poop. Then suddenly, "THHHHHWWWWAAAAAAAAAARP." Straight out of an Oatmeal comic strip. We've learned to wait for at least three thwarps before changing, otherwise it's projectile poop!!
  • I feel I could write a book about our highs and lows with pooping! For the first 3 weeks he was born, DS would go with just about every diaper change. As soon as week 4 hit, and up until about week 8, his pooping was far and few and it was accompanied by painful gas, stomach churning, and discomfort.  That's also around the time that he started spitting up too. Once week 8 hit, it started to get better.  He was going more on his own (we were trying everything during week 4-8 to help with relief and none of it worked), and it was usually once a day or sometimes twice a day.  Now at week 10, he goes almost every diaper again.  Out of the 8-9 times he gets changed a day, about 5-6 of those are poopy diapers.

He makes grunting noises, sometimes a coo'ing sound, like he's now relieved to let that one go, and turns red in the face usually.  His eyes widen up and it sounds like what a PP mentioned, when you're squeezing the last bit of ketchup out of the bottle.  I've noticed a couple of times he shivers afterwards and does a little shake with his whole body, haha. He's pretty proud of himself when he poops and has a big smiley grin on his face when he's getting changed and we're all done changing him.
  • Jaxon wakes up for his last feeding around 6 and an hour later he wakes up to poop. This consists of me holding him and about an ounce of milk to get it started. Once it's going he stops eating and makes an ohh face with scrunchy brows and the other poop is total random but same process. I don't think he's ever pooped without someone holding him. The noises use to be much worse but now he's less noisy and terribly stinky.

Poor Olive had a horrific evening. She pooped. Her dad was cooking dinner and i was in the basement going through my pre-pregnancy clothes and crying.. er.. getting ready to return to work. Suddenly she starts screaming code blue so I go upstairs and dad says she just started screaming for no reason. Hugged on her a bit, tried feeding her and finally took her for a change. She pooped. Not much - not the blowout you guys are describing. Enough. But darker than normal. I think she had burning diarrhea. I get that. I get that on the reg. Sometimes after going days without pooping. She cried a bit after her change. Passed out in my arms, then in her dad's arms for about 40 minutes. Had a bath, grinned and laughed, went to bed.

I'm afraid Olive may have possibly inherited her mother's bowels. So a trip to the doc is in order - we want to ensure it's not Crohn's or colitis. Good chance it's just normal but the poor little soul.. i can't stand the thought of her living with an inflammatory bowel disorder. Kind of hate myself and my genes right now.
  • We have DS on Enfamil AR because of his spitup/maybe reflux? and it causes him to be constipated. We put a little extra water (maybe 1/4-1/2oz) in his bottles and add pear juice to some of his bottles. He goes about once a day.

I have to do lightening-quick diaper changes because DD gets a kick out of rubbing her feet in her poopy diaper or somehow getting it all over her legs if the diaper is gone but I haven't finished wiping her down. So many unfortunate socks.

She's not on any kind of schedule. But she looks so content when she does poop.

    Spelling edits.

Oh we learned early on that diaper changes are a socks-off situation. The boy used to poop more times a day than pairs of socks he owns.
  • I hold DS's feet together in one hand while wiping with the other. He kicks like a maniac so sometimes he overpowers me and gets out of the leg lock ;)

  • I had a new experience with poop yesterday. I was changing DS's poopy diaper when he started farting. I quickly stopped wiping cause I thought more could be coming, and just waited. Sure enough two seconds later poop started coming out. Thank the good Lord it didn't shoot out! But it was hilarious, I just stood there laughing saying holy crap, cause it looked like ice cream coming out of a soft serve machine...if ice cream was brownish green and smelled like shit. It was too funny.
