Self soothing

DD seems to be getting progressively worse with sleep. She used to wake up 1x a night for a bottle...or maybe just to get her pacifier. But since about 6 months old she wakes up sometimes multiple times a night and won't go back to sleep unless we take her in our bed. She really doesn't have any self soothing skills. Any ideas on how to work on that...is crying it out the only way?? This process was way easier with my son but she is a tough nut. Lol.

Re: Self soothing

  • I've read many mamas are going through the same thing but crying it out is definitely not for me. I cosleep with my son and this has worked for us. I think every baby is different and some learn to self soothe and others have a harder time but that's okay. My brother and I were both different at it so this is why I think not everything that works for one baby will work for the other. My son still wakes up a few times a night but I believe it's because of teething. I don't blame him it must be painful, our poor babies. Maybe try soothing her and when she starts closing her eyes and falling asleep put her down in her crib. I know it requires us getting up but at least it will soothe her. Keep us updated mama and hang in there!!

  • It could also be teething. I hear that teething throws schedule and routine out of whack. For self soothing techniques we start by doing baby steps. We started during the day with holdings and carrying and then with naps. Now she doesn't cry when we put her down and she entertains herself and for naps she doesn't need us to hold her. It is all about not picking baby up too soon or too late. I would go back to square one and just experiment :)
