Any runners look at Bump support belts?

As a runner I have had to invest in more supportive sports bras & the thought of belly support as I get further along makes sense.  I have noticed more discomfort from running with my bump as I get further along, but it's not concerning at this point. I recently met another runner who is due in April & felt the need to stop running due to the discomfort in tendons in her back while running. Has anyone heard of people wearing belly supports for running & do they work well for runners?

  • I wore a belt last time and ran up until the day before she was born. I forgot it a few times and felt sore and uncomfortable during and after.

  • How far along were you when the discomfort started? Just curious

  • Following... I've been wondering this very same thing. I haven't been running much due to weather and time constraints, but as it gets warmer, I would like to get back out there a bit, so I don't lose everything I've accomplished in the past 3 years! I was thinking about getting a Belly Band, but didn't know how well they worked.
  • I think a lot of it will depend on how you carry. I ran through my entire pregnancy last time and was never bothered by my belly. Other runners have said they have made a  difference for them. Maybe wait it out a little bit to see how baby sits; you may not need it.

  • I'm not noticing any discomfort yet but I'm only at 15w5d. My doctor did recommend that I look into the belly support bands for the third trimester. I hope to run as long as I feasibly can (or waddle, or whatever. As long as I'm moving!)

Do they make support bands specific for running? I've only been able to find ones that are for everyday use. I figured they'd get the job done, but if they make ones specifically for working out that might be better.

  • I think it got uncomfortable around the beginning of 3rd tri./late 2nd. I used the Gabrialla maternity support belt.

I started having some discomfort at about 10 weeks & it was easily ignorable. At first I noticed that by mile 2 i feel like i have to pee, when i know i don't,  but now the feling begins in the first 10 steps. It is getting more persistent & makes finishing a run without taking a break difficult.

Thanks! This looks very promising. I was afraid that there would be few belly support band options beyond the kind with suspenders.
  • My support belt wasn't so much for discomfort but it helped keep the baby from basically using my bladder as a trampoline my entire run!

I have been running 3 x week. I had the bladder pressure like I always needed to pee starting at about 9 weeks, but no other problems until 20 weeks. Now I have bladder pain, like I'm being kicked in it, on top of serious RLP, when I run.

I've looked through a lot of recommendations from runners on blogs and mom groups and these two so far I've heard the best news about. I am going to try the Gabrialla first, as DH won't support the cost of the other. Also the Gabrialla is more adjustable than most so I can hopefully manage with only one size for the next 20 weeks.

  • Thanks for all the help & recommenations! I have ordered the Gabriella belt & can't wait for it to arrive.
