SO i spoke to the nurse.. It looks like if i start IVF in May the retrieval would be mid may and because of PGD testing, the transfer not until end of june or possibly into July... why so long?? I don't know how to keep waiting like this to just begin.. and i will be 40 in august..

so lets say the first ivf is unsuccessful.. how long do i wait then for a second chance at it?? since i will be freezing embryos can i start right away then in august?? this is all so stressful and scary.. I have a huge fear i will waste 2400 on pgd testing and will come back with all abnormal embryos.. if thats the case i will not be able to come up with more money to try again w pgd and will be too afraid to do it without testing since its all abnormal.. i wish my brain would stop .. i have a trip planned to florida at end of march.. if i end up being home on cycle day 3 i could possibly start this in april.. i honestly feel like taking a plane home a day early if i can.. i just can;t keep waiting to start this process..
Re: So frustrated....
You've asked a few times whether or not you should do PGD testing and others have asked too (it's searchable). I believe you got great insight from quite a few ladies with various opinions, which is awesome! We can't tell you if it would be a waste of money or not, but I'd gather that most would say they were glad they did it.
Unfortunately, as others have mentioned in other posts, you may think you have control on the time line of IVF, but you don't when it comes down to it. Your time line is based on when and how your body responds and the time it takes offices and labs to do their work. I work in a school system, so I understand how timing makes things difficult. I'm also over 38 so I get the age thing too.
Just do what you can do, but understand that some things are out of your control. There is a lot of waiting unfortunately as you try to get pregnant and even when you do. The women and men here have given you some great advice...

I'm in a similar boat as you - aiming for a May IVF cycle and then doing PGD. For us it will probably be an early/mid June FET transfer as well. We are going PGD cause I'm a carrier for a genetic disease, and right now it's taking a lot of time cause the genetics lab had to "set-up" for the biopsy tests since they have to compared the embryos DNA to mine and DH's. They said that the set-up takes 4-6 weeks, and we are going away to Europe for 1 1/2 weeks in April. We were told that the FET cycle wouldn't be asap after the retrieval cause it takes 10-12 days for the biopsy, and my RE likes patients to recover after the ER and then will start the medicated FET cycle after AF comes after the RE.
I understand the feeling that the trip might completely ruin the whole month! We are going to a wedding in Colorado in late May and the following weekend, traveling down to GA to visit and old battle buddy of DH's
Does the RE you go to have any discounts for financing? Mine has a discounted IVF price, and if the 1st 2 cycles are unsuccessful, the 3rd cycle is free. Are you doing PGD because of genetic disorder? Sometimes the insurance companies will end up covering PGD by showing how a lifetime of care would cost them so many more times the cost than a few (but hopefully one one!) cycles. Also, if you get a good number of eggs that are biopsied as "normal," then if the first try is unsuccessful, you may be able to store some and then only have to go a FET cycle and transfer back ones that have already been tested, and not pay for another round of PGD...
I too am about to burst with the anxiety and impatience of waiting! It's a serious distraction and stressful!
Hang in there and sooner than you know it, you'll be starting the meds! Hope you enjoy your vacation
Hello, dear runner, I’m so sorry for you. I know what you’re feeling as I had to go through all this not so long time ago. But here I should say you have no other way but do PGD testing anyway. This is what we were told on the point in our Biotexcom clinic.
PGD tests not only for genetic diseases but for chromosomal abnormalities. At our age (38 yo and older) 50% or more of our embryos are going to be chromosomally abnormal. Most chromosomal abnormalities are fatal and will end in miscarriage. Some, like trisomy 21 (Down's syndrome), may result in a viable birth.
I understand how horrible the waiting is (believe me it is the worst part...), your RE is trying to avoid you having to experience another miscarriage. If you don't do testing they may put in more than 1 embryo to account for the fact that 1/2 is likely to be abnormal. However if both are normal you end up with twins. You will have egg retrieval 1 month, the embryos are tested day 5 and frozen and then transfer next month. Risks to embryo exist but not as much as with day 3 biopsies.
I would make sure to question your RE about the embryologists experience with PGD testing and biopsying, making sure they have a few hundred biopsies under their belts. I really think at your age this testing is worth the money and the time. It doesn't guarantee you won't miscarry but it also increases the pregnancy rate per cycle to 70% (per my RE).
I hope this helps!!!
