Trouble TTC

Hello ladies! (Child and loss mentioned)

Hello ladies. I just found your board and I am so glad I did. I don't really have many people to talk to about this journey except DH and I am desperate to talk to someone who will answer my questions with something other than, it will happen.

So a little about me, I am 36, married, with a beautiful 3 year old daughter. When we conceived her, she definitely wasn't an oops but we also were not going extra lengths to get pregnant. That took about 9 months. Also during that time I had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I began medication during those 9 months.

So two years ago we decided we wanted a second and went about the same course of action. I got my thyriod retested (to be honest, I had stopped taking meds because I lost insurance and couldn't afford it) and found that I needed a higher dose, which I got on. So for about a year and a half we just sat back and waited. Nothing. Then I decided we really needed to be active in this journey. I was already 35 and getting nervous. So for 4-5 months I tempted, did opk test and in July found out I was pregnant. Unfortunately, I just had a really bad feeling about the pregnancy. Around week 9 it was confirmed that I had a missed miscarriage with a BO. I was devasted. As soon as we could start trying again (December) we started trying again.

I really thought this was our month, I just felt different this month.  But with the arrival of AF today I am devasted once again. I have made an appointment with my GYN/OB to discuss taking more steps. I am almost 37 and worried our time is running out.

So that is my story, sorry it turned into a novel! I am glad to be here and look forward to supporting everyone on their journey.

  • Hi and welcome.  I would ask your OB/GYN for a referral to an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist).  OB/GYN's are good at keeping you pregnant but not getting you pregnant.  An RE is specialized in fertility.

  • Hi and welcome! This is a great place for support and connection. I also have a child who is almost 5, we've been TTC for 2 years now. The RE has confirmed that I have PCOS, and everything else is great. After spending a few thousand at the RE, and yes we have insurance that covers about 70%, we are taking a break from meds. I never started IUI because DH is not ready for that (yet). And we wanted to just time intercourse since we have proven fertility. I'm 31.... Ok almost 32. And we are going to keep doing TI with meds until I'm 34. Which is a long ways away it seems. Until we get a successful BFP, this board has been a great place to come to when feeling like I need to connect with others going through the struggle.
Definitely go to an RE, after 35, the clock is ticking faster than any of us want it to be. And good luck!

  • Welcome! If you're open to it you may want to see a naturopath for the thyroid issue as well. I have more than one friend who has had great responses to natural treatment.

Hi and welcome. Minus the thyroid, I am very similar to you. After my mc we tried for 5 months. I just started with an RE and if I'm not pregnant now, we are doing an IUI next month.
    Good luck!
  • Hello & welcome! You should definitely be moving to a RE at this point; after our work up I felt a little more in control of our situation. Good luck to you, keep us updated with how it's going.
