Hey moms! Forgive me if this was already mentioned elsewhere- I brought my 10 week old to the doctor yesterday because she developed a rash that they identified as erythema multiforme. We started her on enfamil newborn formula (2oz breastmilk + 2oz formula) last Friday & started using a different type of wipes on Saturday. She also got her round of 2 month shots on Friday evening. The doctor didn't think the rash was from any of those. After doing research on erythema like a crazy mom, I found an article that says 'Also, some cases develop after a child has received an immunization, such as the tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) or hepatitis B vaccines.' I finally come to my question - any other moms experience this or have any ideas? Any other LO's develop a rash from their shots? Thanks in advance, any insight is greatly appreciated!
I'm a nurse in an ER - although my child hasn't experienced erythema multiforme, I have seen it a number of times at work. It has always been secondary to a new food or drug - usually an antibiotic. You haven't started your kiddo on any new meds, right? I can't guarantee that the EM isn't from immunizations, but i suspect that it was probably due to something in the formula or any new medications. Just my experience. Hope it clears up soon for your LO!
blackw15 she hasn't been on any new medications, the only things that were new that I could think of were the wipes or the formula. We stopped using the wipes and she looked better when she woke up this morning. I figured I'd keep feeding her the formula as we were to see if the rash got worse and it looks like its almost gone at this point! I'm not sure what caused it, but, we're definitely not using the wipes again just to be safe.
Oh poor baby, I've had EM myself and it is really miserable. Mine was caused by taking a new medication as pp mentioned is typically the cause. Did you by chance give her a small dose of Advil or Tylenol like they say you can if a vaccination causes a fever? Just a thought.

@Brookerose978 we didn't give her anything after the shots, she actually did great - no fever or anything. I'm really stumped. we have similac sensitive and I'm thinking about trying that to see if there's any difference. last night it seemed to come back a little on her face after she fell asleep, only on the side that she was sleeping on. this morning she has a little spot near her eye. I'm at a loss!
