Activities

DH and I went to Babies R Us yesterday evening and decided after to walk down to another store down the way. We passed by a ballet studio and I got so excited! I can't wait to put DD in activities and sports! Little girls in tutus and slippers are adorable and I love them in those little leotards! Gymnastics is a definite yes, and of course t-ball/softball, because I played and DH wants her in hockey too (I'm Canadian, so that's sort of a requirement, haha)... But basically she can do whatever she wants to do in the end. Any sports or activities you are excited to get your LO's into?

Re: Activities

  • Henry's uncles are referees and coaches for baseball, soccer and football. If he is interested and enjoys playing I imagine we are going to be a major sports family. I'm not into sports so it doesn't make a difference to me lol. Just whatever he is interested in I will support.

  • My DH is a varsity basketball coach so he of course is hoping that DS is tall and likes basketball :) He has been attending the games since he was one month and he is fascinated by everything going on and will even fall asleep to the buzzer.

  • DH wants Zoe to be the next Ronda Rousey *eye roll* so we'll be putting her in judo..or something like that. I played volleyball so I'll be pushing that. :) DH and his family are musicians so hopefully DD will be interested in learning an instrument!

But seriously she'll probably be like DH and I and not want to join any clubs until she's much older lol.
  • Music and skating. If she wants. I loved them both so much.

Shes also going into martial arts. No compromising on that. I want her to know how to defend herself.
  • Ds did gymnastics as a baby/toddler & currently enjoys t-ball & swim. I imagine well do the same for dd. Hubby coaches the t-ball & it's adorable
  • We're going to do 6 month swim lessons for sure. She loves bath time,  so I think the pool would be fun. We do a lot of hiking and already bring her with us,  so that will continue to be a family activity. I'll let her do what interests her, but I plan to take her to the stables with me and get her on a horse when she's old enough.  I'd love for her to get involved in 4H or Pony Club if she wants to do that.  DH is a big runner and she definitely will have the build for that.  She's a bean pole like her daddy.

    Fun thread!
  • Swimming! I've been swimming competitively since I was 5 so I want her to be comfortable in the water. She loved baths & I recently got her an otteroo. I can't wait to try it out. We are hoping to get her into swim lessons in the next 2-3 months. I've found a few taught in saline pools, which are easier on the skin.
  • @JackJacktheCat and @mhuber223 how did you find these lessons? I was a competitive swimmer and want to get DD in a pool as soon as possible!  Thanks!
  • Honestly I'm excited for any activity, he can choose them all obviously. I can't wait to see him develop talents and become passionate about something
  • DD has been doing ballet since she was three and LOVES it. There's a pool here at my parents house so I'll probably get Nico in swimming lessons as soon as I can. He loves bath time so hopefully he'll take to the lessons well.
  • We did swimming lessons last year with my son, he was almost 2, and it was so much fun! Looking forward to doing that with DD soon :)

Now that he's almost 3 my son can start sports in the fall! He's been into soccer lately, and loved watching the World Cup last summer, so I think we are going to start there. I played soccer for 15 years so I may be biased there ;) he's also huge - 98% for height and weight so his dad wants to get him into football, but I think we've got a few years before he can do that.

i was not a girly girl at all. I did dance and gymnastics one year each and hated it all. So it will be interesting to see how my daughter is and if she wants to do girly activities or ball sports like I did!
  • We are starting mom & baby yoga soon (you can start at 6 weeks but that was the soonest opening and I wanted him to have his shots before yoga). Yoga is because miss yoga and he can go with to the baby classes!
We just started infant swimming, for the freedom of movement and survival float (...not because we are trying to raise an Olympic swimmer).
We are currently doing baby massage.
DH and I both run so at this point, I am most excited for DS to be big enough for the jogging stroller!
DH coaches "little league" track so we may do that.
My mom was a gymnastics coach so we will do toddler gymnastics but my children will be to tall to be gymnast so we will probably will do that until elementary school because it is so good for their spatial awareness, balance and agility.
We joke that he has a hockey player name and we are from Minnesota so he might play hockey eventually  ;)

  • Ballet! I LOVE ballet! I've been dancing for over 25 years and I teach dance as well. I cannot wait :) And I agree with pp about being big enough to jog with in the stroller. Right now my husband and I run in shifts, one runs and the other walks with the stroller, then we switch.
  • DHs family is really big into soccer so we will be trying that for sports initially. I definitely want DS to do swim lessons and swim team because my family is from New Orleans and we all live in the water. Most summer vacations are water related and I want DS to be a strong swimmer. Other than that we want to try piano lessons and whatever DS is interested in as he gets older.
  • I think my dad already has golf clubs picked out for DD. We all golf, so that will be fun to start her young. Also softball - I played through college and now DH and I play in our city league.

And nerdy board games! Maybe she will go win a Settlers of Catan tournament.
  • My husband is putting her in martial arts for defense purposes. But I can't wait to hopefully put her in dance. I always wanted to dance as a child but didn't get to until late college and even then it was only for a year.

Id also love for her to maybe play violin :)

  • Soccer and baseball, whichever he prefers most, and he can choose which instrument be wants to play.
