Well I'm not sure I was flagged as someone who may be at risk. No family history of any kind of diabetes, not overweight (or even close to it), no other symptoms pointing to it, no abornmal blood screens prior (and I have had a lot since I went through infertility screenings).... My doctor text me this morning and was legitimately shocked that I failed. She said before I even did the test that I shouldn't worry she doesn't have any concern about me and GD... But whatever - it is what it is. Thanks though!!
It has nothing to do with history, it's all to do with how your system responds to the hormones the placenta makes that mess with insulin. Typically one of the other risk factors is involved but I would think it isn't unheard of to have no risk factors and still get GD Good luck on the 3 hours hopefully you're in the bit chunk who get roped into the 3 hour and come out with a negative result for GD.
What @Sgoldberg247 said. I had zero risk factors, no family history whatsoever, perfect BMI, barely gained much weight and ate healthier than anyone I knew and got it so uncontrollably horrible with my first I was on insulin injections twice daily. Same exact story here with my second, just how my body reacts to pregnancy with absolutely no prior indications this would/could happen
Just got my results for the 3 hour GD test- passed. And all I can think about about is what a waste of $47.00 that test was... And for the record I got 140/135 on the first test, all that drama over 5 stupid points. I could've put that money towards some nursing bras. Damn.
Glad you passed labor buddy!!! Waiting on mine and feeling guilty every time I eat sweets and carbs. I looked at my health portal yesterday and realized I "failed" the 1 hour with 138/135. Really? Most doctors would let me go on my pie stuffing way with those numbers!

3 points!! ARGH. That makes it MORE annoying to me for some reason. Lemme know when you get your results back *fingers crossed*
I'm at my appointment right now. I was allowed to eat breakfast just not anything real sweet obviously. I sat down, she handed me a cold, orange 10oz bottle and said, "you have 3 minutes". Tasted exactly like a little sweeter than normal Sunkist. No big deal AT ALL. Just waiting the hour. Apparently I get to watch an epidural video today too.
Finished my three hour - wasn't awful, although the drink left a gross taste in my mouth. I had to do the orange, and the only thing I can compare to is Triaminic (the medicine little kids take - an alternative to Vicks).. anyway, I have really great veins, and they used a butterfly needle, so it didn't hurt too painful. My doctor's office had wifi, so I worked all morning, which made it go by fast! Turns out, I only have to pass 2 our of the 4 tests. whew! prayerfully we get results back tomorrow and everything turns out ok
Ok, I'm kind of annoyed. I took the 3 hour test Monday. I still hadn't heard anything so I called today to find out my results. My doctor is out of town this week so another dr read my results. One of my four draws was "slightly elevated". They said they'll discuss it at my next appointment which is over a week away. I asked about special diet and they said to avoid sweets and drink lots of water. This really bothers me. So did I pass? Did I fail? Am I going to hurt my baby if I eat a cookie? annoyed.

For the 3 hour test you have to miss at least two draws to be considered GD. So it sounds like you passed but that they will maybe keep an eye on things. From what I can understand, it is chronically uncontrolled GD that causes the biggest risk to baby. Sounds like you will be good to go and that they were just being more modest in their response because they aren't your doc.

Thank you! You explained this a whole let better than they did.
Just got my test results back, and I passed. actually, I had a low fasting blood sugar level, was on the low end of the range for the 1 and 3 hour test, and 3 points above the range on the 2 hour test. Imagine that. Not sure how I was 30 points over the level for the 1 hour, but I am thankful all is well.
@cy&damonsmommy sorry to hear you missed the cut off!! the nurse doing your test may or may not tell you this (mine did).. take the bandage and cotton ball off the spot where they draw the blood about 10 minutes after.. that will help your veins pop back, which makes for less painful blood draws. They alternated arms for me, but still, two pricks per arm.. I am thankful I had that advice. Also, I scrolled through the mommy magazines at the office and copied down some great recipes - helped pass the time as well. good luck on your three hour!!
I just took my 3 hour test this morning. I felt fine, just really hungry, by the end. I was so excited to get some food, so I went to a diner on my way to work after and ordered a breakfast burrito, grits, coffee, and water. When I got in my car after eating, I felt like I needed to cough a little and when I did, I puked up coffee all over myself Then, I drove away because I was so embarrassed thinking someone may have seen what just happened. Then I just thought it was hilarious, because did that seriously just happen??
Now I'm at work and I smell like coffee and vomit and my coat REALLY needs to be washed!! Gross!!
I just got the call from the doc failed the one hour looks like I will be taking the 3 hour next week. I was at 140 and my doctor said they like it below 130.
@WaitingMay14 I did eat my doctor told me to eat as I normally would because I have been having issues with food this whole pregnancy. I am a little mad now because I am sure had I not ate 1.5 hour before I probably would have passed and wouldn't have to face making myself extremely ill for the 3 hour.
Ladies did anyone experience an upset stomach /diarrhea as a result of the glucose test? I had my 1 hour yesterday morning, and for the rest of the day my stomach was experiencing sharp gas pains/discomfort etc. I was then up last night with an upset stomach/diarrhea & it's still lingering today. Wasn't sure if this was a side effect of the drink or if I'm dealing with something else. Thanks in advance for the help!
@msbeachnj, I had an upset stomach the rest of the day after mine. That much sugar so quickly just messed me up. I'm not sure if my frequent trips to poop were because of the drink or not--I have that problem every few days since I had my gallbladder removed.
@PBear93 the drink definitely didn't work well for my stomach in the hours after. Although I've found that, without my gall bladder, any time I fast for any period of time when I finally do eat it's a bad situation. It's because the body keep producing bile and since the gall bladder is gone it has no where to store it and if we don't eat the bile has no where to attach on it so it just flushes through our system. Fun times. :-P

Yes. That is totally my problem. Or if I eat someplace I haven't eaten in a while. Super fun. But it is better than the constant pain, so there's that.
So I am here now for my 3 hour test and as horrible as it is to say I am impressed with my doctors office. They also do chemo therapy here and there is no one in this morning so I am sitting in a recliner seat tv on in a room by myself. Now let's just hope I pass this darn thing.
