SLEEP HELP!!!!

Hello - My 6 1/2 month old baby boy has recently decided to be a terrible sleeper.  For the past two weeks, he has gotten up numerous times throughout the night.  Before this, he either slept through the night (8:00 PM - 6:30 AM) or he would wake once.  Lately, he has been waking up numerous times and we can't figure out why.  When we try to comfort him, he cries even more.  Even a bottle doesn't completely calm him.  Eventually time passes and he calms down again.  Has anyone else experienced this?  We went to the dr yesterday- concerned that there was an issue.  No ear infection, nothing.  I'm afraid to keep running into his room all night, then he will be used to us always being there.  Any thoughts or ideas of what is going on  and how to fix it?! I miss sleep! Thank you!!

Re: SLEEP HELP!!!!

  • One possibility of course is teething. If you don't think it's that, then it's probably he's learning how to transition sleep cycles. Babies don't have sleep cycles like adults in the beginning. They have to be alert enough to respond to hunger cues and other life needs. As they get older, they can go into deeper stages of sleep. They just have trouble learning how to do it. Here's a small article I found helpful https://www.mybabysleepguide.com/2009/02/sleep-transitions.html?m=1 You can also google baby sleep transition or ask your doctor about it.

  • Could it be night terrors? My friend's LO at 7 months began waking crying and they would try and settle him for a good 30 mins before he would go back down. He's 8 months and still gets them about 2 times a week - my LO doesn't do this so I don't know much about it but maybe google it?

Also, is he in the "grey period" on wonder weeks? That time period for us was ROUGH. My LO woke up 2-3 times a night. The day the period ended she went back to sleeping!
  • We are at the same 6 1/2 month mark and going through the same thing! Relieving to know it's not just him. Also in the Grey period. He hasn't been fussy as much as just a nightmare at night. He wakes up every hour and a half to two hours :( DH and I are taking turns on who soothes so that we can actually get a few hours of sleep.
  • We are the same way right now.  Also on wonder weeks gray area.  It's bad.  I'm always exhausted.  Worse than when first brought him home.
  • My little man has been doing this since 4.5 mo
  • DS has been doing this for months.. nowdays I'm dreaming about time he woke up 2 to 3 times... now it's more like 5. I'm exhausted. He is 7,5 months now and I hope this phase is going to pass soon.
