  • I find Kelly Ripa annoying.  Sometimes I'll watch Kelly & Michael just for Michael's entertainment, but I have to try to drown her out.  DH and I made it 4 minutes this morning before shutting the show off.

My UO is that there are in fact ugly babies. Sorry folks, not every baby is adorable. DS was an ugly baby! He was still the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen, but he legit looked like Atilla the Hun had been in a terrible UFC fight. I have one friend who's baby looked like Dobby, and another who's baby looked like Benjamin Button as an old man baby. That doesn't mean ugly babies won't turn into adorable infants or toddlers. Just that some join the world not quite ready for their close up yet.
haha I agree with this! I was an ugly baby. My grandpa told my mom I looked like ET! My mom gets mad when I say I was an ugly baby. She always says "No you weren't!" I tell her of course she'd say that, she's my mom.

Agreed! My nephew was the ugliest baby I've ever seen!  He had a huge head and long, lanky limbs. He looked like a little alien. Luckily, he grew into his head, arms, and legs, and he's a very handsome teenager now. But, I remember telling my SIL how cute he was and just hoping she couldn't tell I was lying!

I doubt this is an UO, but if you're someone that lets your giant dog leave giant dog poops in another person's yard because you're too lazy to either A.) Walk the dog, so you let them out off leash at night and/or B.) To carry a bag with you to pick it up, I hope your afterlife involves sitting in the mound of dog poop that you left behind. You are just a disgusting human being.

I am so close to setting up a camera in our front window to see who's dog is responsible. Excuse the pun, but I can't stand that shit.
THIS. I'm sorry some a-hole dog owner is letting their dog do that! I have worked really hard to train my dogs to go as close to the curb as possible because it is the neighborly thing to do, it really bugs me that there are such irresponsible dog people out there. I get so mad when I see dog poop that has not been picked up, it gives all dog owners a bad name.
  • Haha @mello13 I agree, too! Honestly, I think most newborns are a bit odd looking. It takes time to grow into your adorbzness and that is OK!
  • @LadySamLady @missnc77 Totally! I always pick up after my dog and it drives me nuts when others don't!

Agreed! DH was a very ugly baby and through early school he was ugly, but he blossomed and is very attractive now! LOL. But sometimes I scroll through Instagram and I just realize some babies are ugly or look weird! You're def right , that doesn't mean they won't blossom!
  • @AmmyBelle I've never watched any awards show other than the MTV music awards like 15 years ago.

I don't think this will be totally unpopular, but I don't like when someone's reaction to the glucose test is "well, I'm thin and healthy and make the best food choices so I couldn't possible have GD".

To me, personally, it comes across as a) I'm thin and therefore immune to having any potential complications and b) that anyone who indulges sometimes and does have GD is somehow lesser than or worse, it's their fault.  The problem is with OBs educating their patients on how GD occurs, it's the placenta lottery which is why some women have it and others don't, not a complete indictment on your eating habits. The only risk factor I've ever heard associated with GD is your placenta, it can happen to anyone, big, small, heathy, junk food-addicted. I just have a knee jerk reaction to it and feel horrible for anyone that does have it and is made to feel like they could have somehow avoided the diagnosis if they had "just tried harder/made better decisions".
    So much yes!!

  • mello13  My husband agrees with you - we were just talking about this 2 nights ago!!  haha

I personally love newborns, but I tend to think they often look like little animals - ducks, puppies, turtles.

We lost our cable/internet Saturday night through last night, and I have to admit, I slept much better the last few nights.  I didn't spend all evening staring at the tv or the laptop.  I talked, read, or (gasp), went to bed early.

Maybe those studies that say to avoid screen time for 30-60min before bed are on to something?!?

eta: 4 days is a long time to go without cable/internet. Mostly internet.
I used to have a TV in my room before I met DH. I also used to look at my iPad before bed. He was big on no TV in the bedroom and has gotten me out of my iPad habit, too. I gotta say...if you can get off the bright screen before bed, it makes a big difference in terms of rest.
I am a big advocate of not having a TV in the bedroom.  It helps for rest and intimacy.

Yeppp.  My neighbors are those gross people who have 3 dogs but don't even bother to pick up the poop from their OWN yard.  It's the grossest thing, and I hate them with a passion. Also, public parks... For the love of God, if you let your dog run around in a public park, please pick up after them.  Your future toddler-raising self with thank you, because kids are poop magnets.

When DH and I moved from our apt to our house we decided no TV in the bedroom. Best decision.
  • UO: I hate leftovers.

I saw the freezer meal thread and thought about making a few meals, but I know how much I despise left overs and I'm not sure if I'll feel like those freezer meals are left overs. I'm totally cool with preparing and freezing meals for the crockpot. I just don't think I can cook meals before (like lasagna), heat them up and be happy.
I also recognize that none of this is logical. A meal should be a meal right?
I'm with you on this! I'll *maybe* eat leftovers that were made the day before but frozen leftovers that have been reheated freak me out on all levels. The texture is always off and that's a big deal for me. I'm not a food snob in the slightest - I could eat peanut butter sandwiches and cereal for weeks but leftovers from the frozen status don't work for me sadly.

Along the lines of ugly babies... I hate that right when a baby is born, it's features are immediately attributed to family members. "Oh, the dark hair is definitely from grandma." or "Yep, he gets those long fingers from his Uncle Joe."

Newborns look like newborns. And most of them have long fingers.
totally agree and I know it will piss me off when my family starts telling me which features my baby inherited from other relatives (esp on my H's side).

My UO is that I'm a FTM, and I skipping birthing/parenting classes. I don't work in the medical field, but I feel that I am educated enough and have done enough independent research to have a good idea of what is involved and what my medical options are. I work long hours, and I have already spent an exorbitant amount of time going to doctor's appointments, lab appointments, preschool tours, and doing other unavoidable baby-related tasks. The last thing I want to do after work or on my weekend days is go sit in a classroom with someone who is going to tell me all the same information I could get via a Google search or discussion with my doctor. I just feel like it's a waste of time if I'm otherwise well-informed. That being said, I do have an appointment next week to meet with the lead nurse practitioner at my hospital's labor & delivery department for an epidural consultation (my hospital requires it as part of the pre-registration process for anyone who is considering an epidural). So, I guess I'm not getting out of the it entirely.
I'm a FTM not going to any classes either. I think most of the information I can get from reading books. It has nothing to do with the money, and everything to do with time. I can't imagine sitting in a class for 4-6 hours when my attention span is practically nonexistent! I will probably have a consultation with the hospital's birth advisor. But no classes.

I think y'all will be just fine since you've taken the time to educate yourselves.  I don't remember learning anything from my birthing class that books or internet searching didn't tell me.

Ugh! You guys are like my husband and it drives me nuts!! Lol...which is why I don't cook a lot. I always make too much and the food ends up being thrown away...or I have to eat it 5 days in a row lol

I hear you. I was a nanny and have lots of baby experience but I agreed to take a class because my H really wants to. I found one that is breastfeeding + newborn care so hoping to at least learn a lot during the breastfeeding part of the class.
