Never on the pill again, I'd consider an IUD after a few LOs. I once heard someone describe using the pill as contraception as "using a hammer to fix a Swiss watch." Now that I understand FAM and my cycle, I completely get the analogy. Never again for me. That being said, FAM takes a lot of practice and diligence, so I understand that the pill was a good choice for me at a younger age.
@runningpenguin Could you explain what you mean by hemorrhagic bleeder?
I've had PPH after all three deliveries requiring meds, aggressive massage, double IVs, etc. I also hemorrhaged with my assault-related EAB and miscarriage, both requiring D&Cs to stop the bleeding. I've always been told uterine atony was the cause. How would a hormonal IUD help?
**TMI Warning**
Unnatural heavy bleeding. I soaked through pads and tampons every two hours for seven days straight. I would pass huge chunks of tissue. There was nothing actually hemorrhaging, I just bled like that. I would sometimes have two periods a month and I started all of this at the lovely age of nine. It took until I was twenty-two to find the right hormone dosage to get me to the point where I had even a typical looking period. Basically I can't be without hormones until they take my ovaries, which was a real discussion we had with doctors.
@runningpenguin Geez, that sounds awful. Thank goodness you found the best dosage of HBC that works for you. I'm sorry you have to deal with that all over again to TTC. I hope your stay on this side is short!
I will never use hormonal birth control ever again. I started it in college because my periods were extremely heavy and made me anemic. Sans BCP AF was about 7-8 days. On BCP, it was like AF never stopped. I was constantly bleeding or spotting and never knew when AF was coming.
We will just avoid BDing during FW in the future. DH plans to have a vasectemy when we are done having kids.
About to go into month 11 TTC. I had the copper IUD since I was 18 and it was great not to have to worry about it, but after this long journey I will never to back to any form of BC. I will do timing and that's it. Like most have said I'm ready to have a family, so even after my (hopefully) first happens, I would so welcome an "accidental" 2nd or even 3rd.
