My boyfriend and I are going at just a couple days before 14 weeks to find out our baby's gender. It's $80, and one of those places that does a DVD, 3D sonogram, etc.
The reason I'm going so early is I'm going on a trip to visit a a very close friend who is living abroad and I'd like to be able to share that I'm pregnant and what I'm having, as this is the only time during my pregnancy that I'll see this friend. (Don't worry, not going to anywhere Zika-prone!) Otherwise, I'd wait til week 16 or so. I do like the idea of going somewhere other than my doctors office for this experience- I feel it'll be more special & comfortable and for $80, why not! It was way less expensive than I expected.
Anyway, I was assured by the person at the business that they really should have no problem finding out the gender even this early (and that they do it all the time), as long as the baby cooperates, anyway. She suggested orange juice and a small cup of coffee to help. Do you think this is realistic? It won't be the end of the world if they can't tell, but just wondering if anyone has found out this early.
Re: Early (14 wk) gender scan experiences?
We were shocked because DH doesn't have any boys coming from any of his siblings.
Fast forward to our 18 week anatomy scan... And bam! that little boy stump was just a swollen girl part.
The new tech we had that day said normally it's hard to tell before 16 weeks because girl parts are swollen and look like boy parts before then.
i was only disappointment for a few minutes because I seriously thought because of the last US that it was a boy. My husband was so excited to be having a little girl that he picked out my daughters name the same day we found out.
Just from my experience, I feel it's a much lower % to know what the sex is before 16 weeks. Unless you have the sex gender blood testing done.
I ended up giving birth to a boy.
My friend will be excited either way, it'd just be extra special to know.
I do know a couple people who have successfully found out gender from one of these places at 14 weeks. But I wonder if the person I booked the appointment with exaggerated at the likelihood of being able to find out so early.
Maybe I'll just chalk it up to a nice experience and what happens, happens. I definitely won't start buying gender specific stuff any time soon!
gender=how one identifies
You won't know gender for years and years.
Also, at 14 weeks it's a 50/50 shot. I wouldn't go buying all pink/blue based on what they say.
They did it at 18w. They tried at 16w and she was in a position that they couldn't see it.
At the place where I did, they said they don't do before 16w because it can give a wrong answer.
I get get why you want to go early, but how would you feel if they were wrong. Not worth it to me.
