Bacterial Vaginosis

I went to the dr last friday for my first ultrasound, and everything came back completely normal (saw the baby's heartbeat, baby was measuring to the day of my last period, etc, bloodwork came back normal) but they told me after doing a swab that I had something called Bacterial Vaginosis, and that I will have to be treated during my second trimester. Anyone ever had this before? It's kinda unnerving when I read about it, only because it can cause preterm labor and late miscarriages, though my DR was not worried about it at all and said that I will undergo antibiotics in 4 weeks. Did not have this during my last pregnancy, so feel like this is weird to know! Researched natural ways to treat it during pregnancy, so maybe some of these will help! (apple cider vinegar, probiotics, garlic, etc)

Re: Bacterial Vaginosis

  • I had it last time. I was given antibiotics and I had no issues. I also get yeast infections while pregnant.

  • I also had it last pregnancy and it was no big deal. Just take the antibiotics they give you -- as you stated, the potential risks for NOT treating it are scary. They wouldn't give you anything that's not pregnancy-safe, so personally I wouldn't mess around with trying to cure it with natural remedies. Take the drugs, yo.
  • I feel this needs mentioning: Self-administering "natural" remedies that contain some compounds with antibiotic properties is not safer than waiting the required time to take the antibiotics. You risk doing more harm than good. Speak to your doctor before starting any treatment.

Take care of yourself, and best of luck.
