What a scare...

I went in today for the usual stress test. Doctor was out but only really had to see nurse. After session was done she told me that I had to go to L&D since I was getting too many contractions. I am 30+3 so far and have had these issues for about 3 weeks now. I was monitored for about 4 hours. Things did get better and noticed that my main relief came from being on my side. Swab test came back negative for preterm labor. No ultrasound and just a visual inspection of cervix. Things look ok so far. Now my bedrest is restricted to bathroom privileges only. They are checking for bladder infection but they say that the baby's frequent movement is causing my uterus to irritate and contract. Idk what I'm going to do for food while DH is working. Who knows if any sort of shower is an option now. I have to figure out how to keep myself entertained in bed all day for the next 7-9 weeks. I have a feeling he will come early but hoping at least till 37 wks. I'll go in for c section by 39 if all goes well. Stay in my belly!!! I guess there is no more need for a tour if L&D. Next follow up is Thursday.

Re: What a scare...

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this...
  • Wow! I've got an active one that causes me to have a lot of BH contractions and I have a short cervix. Did they say anything about caffeine? I was told at my last apt to avoid anything high in sugar and caffeine to keep her more chill but it hasn't helped :(
    keep that baby cooking!!!

The nurse did ask if I had caffeine but I don't drink coffee and only had one sip of soda earlier in the day to satisfy a craving. I only had one piece of chocolate about an hour and a half before I saw the doc. I don't think it was significant enough for a crazy baby. He's been really active lately regardless. He's calmer when I lay in my left from what I have noticed. I have been taking nifedipine to help with contractions which usually works.

  • Oh to add...they said to pee when I feel a full bladder because that causes contractions but continue drinking lots of water...So every 10mins? I should just sleep in the tub!

  • Sometimes it'd be nice if they just admitted you vs putting you on bedrest at home that's that restrictive. Because seriously, how do you eat?? Go stock up on lots of little crafts that aren't messy and don't take many supplies! And keep baking that baby!

  • I couldnt imagine bedrest with only bathroom breaks for that long! I was on hospital bedrest for a week back in December and that was miserable enough, but i got food at least. Good luck and hope baby stays in longer!

As I was checking out she told me what I should do if i start getting them again and if that doesn't work to call the doctor. Only then or if it's real bad should I go back in because this requires me taking a bed from someone else going in labor...way to make me feel important. I get what she meant but still it's not like I want to go in and spend that money for fun. It was the first time going in and doctor ordered!
  • Hang in there. My friend relied on books and netflix when she was put on bedrest. Hope the baby keeps cookin as long as you wish!
  • Holy heck - I thought our little girl was active, but that's crazy! Hope you find some relief, and keep that baby cooking! Good luck girl!
  • Wow so sorry to hear about your situation, hoping baby stays put till 36/37 weeks.  I have an active baby too, but she does not appear to be causing an issues as far as pre-term labor, but I do have to pee a lot.  Have not really felt any BH or contractions either, but then again I never felt them with my first one.  Not sure what to recommend for staying in bed other then books, TV, maybe try to take up knitting, you can make the baby some cool hats or booties.  I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes better and baby stays put.  Good luck!
  • Best thing to do is stay positive! I know it's hard but the odds are in your favour. Maybe you could have DH lay out some food and beverages close to you before he goes to work. Foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids are your friend. Good time to read all the books you've always intended to. I like think of bedrest as forced relaxation. There will be little relaxing once the baby comes!

I definitely have to come up with a better meal plan. DH works about 11 hours 5-6 days a week...oh and maybe a cleaning lady lol

Thanks everyone for the positive vibes!
  • Oh man, so sorry you're going through all this! Lots of hugs and hopefully baby stays in there for at least 6 more weeks!

Start knitting or crocheting, it's very time consuming and lots of cute things you can make for baby! :)

  • Good luck to you-I am sending you many positive thoughts that that baby stays cooking!
