Trying hard to not freak out....

Hey all,

I was working out tonight on the elliptical runner at the gym and felt a lot of moisture down there. I didn't think anything of it since I usually get a lot of discharge from exercising. Afterwards I went to the bathroom and my underwear was soaked through with blood! Red blood. My heart just dropped. I hurried home and have been on the couch ever since. I've read enough about all of our struggles to know that bleeding doesn't always mean bad news, but of course I'm still worried (having had 2 losses doesn't help). I'm getting a few cramps here and there but nothing super intense. The bleeding seems to be subsiding and I'm just seeing some pinkish discharge when I wipe. I called the OB on call and she said it sounds okay for now but I should go to ER if bleeding continues or cramps get worse. And she told me to call clinic tomorrow to get in to see my regular OB. So now I just wait. I'm 14 weeks and 4 days so the risk of miscarriage is low but still, how do you not freak out at the sight of blood???

Please send me your prayers and positive thoughts. I really hope my little bean is doing okay!

Re: Trying hard to not freak out....

  • Sending you a bunch of positive thoughts your way.  Feeling and seeing blood is not a fun symptom whether it is "normal" or not.  Please try to relax, breathe, and do whatever you can to keep yourself calm.  That is what I was told after my experience this past week.  I'm glad you're not having severe cramping with it. Fx for you and I hope you get in to see your ob early tomorrow.
  • Loads of prayers and positive thoughts to you! I hope you are able to get in and see your OB soon so  you can see that all is ok with your little bean.   Hope the time until then passes quickly and that you can get some sleep tonight. Sorry that you're dealing with this worry :(

  • Oh no @jilligan14:(, so so scary. Stay rested, feet up, lots of water, ur OB should be able to see you tomorrow right?? Sending my prayers momma.

  • Keeping my fingers crossed for you, hoping you get an appointment quickly.  If you can keep yourself distracted (maybe a movie in bed?) Hopefully the time will pass quickly til you see your OB

  • Oh Jill!!  How scary.  Logic would say you probably had a broken blood vessel or something from working out, but that doesn't help the intense fear and anxiety I'm sure you're feeling and we'd all feel.  I'm saying a prayer for you tonight and please let us know what your OB says.  Hang in there mama.  Rest, drink water, and let your awesome hubby take care of you! :)

  • I know how scary it is to see blood, but try to stay positive and know that we are all pulling for a good report from the OB.  Hugs to you.
  • I am saying all the prayers and sending all the love and light to you and your family. I had this overwhelming anxiety this morning about m/c, and I can only sympathize with how scary this must be. I am crossing all the fingers and toes for you! Come on magic of the Pg over 35 group...good scan tomorrow! We are here for you!
  • I'm so sorry to read this. I know all to well how terrifying it is to see blood especially after a previous loss. Please take care of yourself, stay off your feet as much as possible and do whatever you need to distract yourself until you can get in to make sure babys ok. Although it's still so scary, the likelihood of loss as this point is minuscule and there are any number of reasons you could be bleeding. I am keeping everything crossed for you and your LO.
  • Oh @jilligan14 seeing blood is so scary. I'm praying it's nothing and hopefully will pass. Any updates?

  • Thank you all for your warm wishes and support. It really helped me get through the night and this morning. The bleeding still comes and goes and is mostly pink. The cramps seem to be getting worse but aren't crazy painful. It's taken AGES to get in touch with someone at my clinic. Finally talked to a nurse who is now talking to a doctor and I'm waiting for a call back. She said that they will most likely send me in for an ultrasound today. The waiting is driving me crazy! I'm praying that it's nothing but am still so very worried. Just can't wait to get in and see the doctor. I'll post an update after the ultrasound.

  • I've been checking obsessively to see if you had an update. Glad to hear the bleeding has lessened and is mostly pink. I'm praying for you guys and hope they can get you in ASAP. I hope you get a call back very soon and they can get you in for an ultrasound as soon as possible. I can only imagine how hard the waiting is. Know we are all rooting you on and hoping for the very best.
  • Sending magic vibes to get you in asap!
  • Yahoooooooo! This is great news! I'm so glad for a happy healthy little boy in there. I hope you can get good rest and that the bleeding fully subsides soon. Thank you for sharing the update. I'm so, so happy for you.

  • I am soooo relieved for you!!! I don't know why these LO's insist on giving their poor mamas a heart attack before they're even born. Plenty of time for that once they're here! Now is the time for DH to step up and cater to you while you rest, rest, rest!!!!
  • Such great news! Yeah!
  • That's great! What a relief for you. Definitely treat yourself to some self-pampering R&R tonight.

  • I would def reconsider the exercise your doing, the elliptical really shakes up your abdomen. I had to stop, was getting cramps and had spotting. Sending pos thoughts your way, keep us posted on how your doing. Get lots of rest!
  • Omg, I just saw this post! I'm sorry I wasn't there for you, but I'm relieved I was able to see right away that you're okay! I'm so sorry you had to go through such a scare.  <3

  • @Glow360 I'm definitely scared to get on the elliptical again, that's for sure! Now that it's going to be getting warmer around here, I might just stick to gentle walks outside.

I just woke up from a 2-hour nap. It feels so nice to take some time off!! Thanks again everyone for your support. I love this board!!!

  • SOOO happy for you!!!

I'm sure they told you that our cervix is crazy vascular now, and maybe you simply burst some blood vessels while working out.

    Regardless, absolutely thrilled for you.
  • Sending positive thoughts from MD!!!
  • @jilligan14 hope things have continued to improve. With my son I noticed that if I was running around a lot and tried to long to hold off going to pee I would get some bleeding.
Make sure you rest and keep hydrated.
