Baby Names

Elle

Elle is one of my favorites on our list. Any ideas for names with a nn of Elle? Our last name is four syllables/ 10 letters, so I don't want the first name to be too long (like Elizabeth). TIA!

This. My cousin's name is Elle. Doesn't have to be short for anything IMO.
  • Penelope could work too. May be a stretch, but it works!

I can think of one valid reason: It's a personal subject pronoun in French, and many places where French is spoken are fun to visit. I mean, someone named She would not necessarily get laughed at in English-speaking countries, but some people may raise an eyebrow.

It's an excellent nickname though. I like Ella for a full name.

  • What about any name that ends with the sound, "-Elle". E.g. Gabrielle.

  • Are you pronouncing it "ell" or "ell-ee"? If it's "ell-ee" I think it's fine as a standalone name, but spelled Ellie instead. I don't understand "ell," even as a nickname, mostly because of what @DarthFuriosa said. In French speaking regions she would be called "she."

True- I guess when you live in Jersey it's not much of a concern. ;)
