Reoccurring bladder infections

edited February 2016 in 3rd Trimester
I just finished my antibiotics for one bladder infection, and found out today that I have another. I was prescribed cephalexin for my infection, and I took two Tylenol for my reoccurring headaches. Well, I had a reaction to the antibiotic and started itching everywhere and I was having shortness of breath. I took a Benedryl and now feel better. Has anyone else had reoccurring bladder infections?

Re: Reoccurring bladder infections

  • i think this is maybe something you should have looked into before taking all the medications. after a quick Google search it seems like it is okay to mix these 3 medications, however, i wouldn't be doing it often.

i also recommend contacting your doctor about this allergic reaction you've had to the antibiotic so you can get put on something else.

  • I definitely looked into it, and I know Tylenol and Benedryl are ok to take together.. But I wasn't positive about the antibiotic.  I am going to be put on a different one tomorrow, so I pray this bladder infection gets resolved!
  • When you asked your doctor, what did they say?

  • Reoccuring bladder infections can trigger pre-term labor. So, take the antibiotics. The tylenol and benedryl are fine as long as you take the recommended dose (or less) every 4-6 hours. I usually take half the recommended dose if meds concern me.

Please call your doctor up about the reaction to your antibiotics. You need to find an antibiotic that works so that your infection doesn't become resistant.

  • I have had a bladder infection for my whole pregnancy. I have taken 4 rounds of antibiotics and currently have a mid-line installed so that I can give myself IV antibiotics so that it will hopefully go away (I have an extreme case, this is not common). I will be on antibiotic's for the remainder of my pregnancy just to attempt to prevent further infection/worse infections. Unfortunately reoccurring bladder infections are common in pregnancy, and also need to be taken seriously. I would most definitely talk to your Dr. about the allergic reaction so that you can be monitored closely.
