Britax Travel System - Thoughts and Reviews?

Have any of you ladies used the Britax B-Agile 3/B-Safe 25 Elite Travel System?

https://www.target.com/p/britax-b-agile-3-b-safe-35-elite-travel-system/-/A-17098862

I have done a bit of research on it, and the safety ratings seem to be great, I am just unsure about the weight. It shows that the infant carseat itself weighs around 11 lbs. I am very petite (5ft) and don't want to be struggling every time I need to carry the seat.

Or, do y'all have any other suggestions on light weight travel systems?

I'm sure there was another thread about infant seats somewhere on this board, but my search option isn't working... imagine that

Re: Britax Travel System - Thoughts and Reviews?

  • We have the Bob travel system, which is from Britax but made more rugged for the outdoorsy types with the inflatable wheels. We got the B-Safe Infant Car seat and the Motion stroller that click into each other. I don't have experience with the Britax stroller, but since Bob is made from the same company at least I can tell you that we are really happy with the system. The car seat is about 9 pounds, I found it to be very manageable. As he got bigger and heavier it was a little tougher, but by that time he was close to being able to sit in the stroller. We still use the stroller (he's almost 2) and it has held up great! Big thumbs up here.

FYI, we ordered the system from REI.com. Once a year they host a sale where you buy the stroller and get the infant car seat free. It's a great deal, but I'm not sure when they have it, I believe it's usually in the spring, that's how we got our system.

  • I have the Britax travel system and it's worked great for us. The car seat is a bit heavy, but nothing that I couldn't handle (I'm 5'4). The only thing that I would change with the system is that the stroller basket has a pretty small opening, but I hook my diaper bag to a carabiner on the handle anyways so I don't have to bend down to dig in the basket.
  • I haven't used that system, but my go-to for baby gear reviews is Lucie's List. She talks about that system here (it's the third one down):

  • Thank you ladies! There are so many options out there, it is hard to know what to get when it is your first time around. I appreciate all of your notes, it makes this FTM stuff much easier to deal with.

  • The Graco click to connect is supposed to be lighter, and has good reviews.

I will say we bought the Britax system car seat, and a lightweight JOOVY stroller with a car seat attachment, and I have no problems lifting either. I liked the Joovy stroller better for a variety of reasons.

  • Yes the Britax infant seats are a bit heavier, but when we looked at them in person, they are much higher quality and solid feeling than the other cheaper/lighter seats.  Some of the cheap brands at like Walmart feel down right flimsy.

  • We bought the Bob Motion travel system first time around and loved it (still do) but will have to upgrade to something to fit our growing family. I love my Britax car seat and will be using it for baby #2. I would rather have something a little heavier and solid. I'm building up my strong mom arms!

  • Thanks for posting and it's interesting reading the replies - I've marked the Britax Travel System as my number one pick.
  • One of my itty bitty friends had a britax and it was good for her, she used it until maybe 10 months. He was a pretty big boy.
  • Thanks everyone for the thoughts! I saw a couple yesterday with the travel system and stopped them to see how they liked it. So far everyone seems to love it!

  • I didn't buy these together as a travel system, but I HIGHLY recommend both the Chicco Keyfit 30 carseat and the Chicco Liteway Plus stroller.  As a carseat, the Keyfit30 is consistently rated a top safety pick, and it's one of the lighter ones out there.  The stroller has been amazing -- it's more compact and lighter than the typical travel system stroller.  It's a great alternate to a carseat caddy since it can be used as a toddler stroller once the baby is about 6 months whereas the caddy has a limited lifespan.  We also use a BOB Revolution SE for neighborhood walks and outdoor activities that require something more rugged.

I have the Britax system.  I love it.  The car seat is heavy, and I am also petite.  However, you won't really be carrying the baby all that often in the carrier.  The only time I really find myself carrying my daughter in the car seat is when we are going to and from the house to the car.  This is troublesome because I live in Chicago (so it's not like I'm parking in a garage attached to my house) and we live on the third floor of a walkup, so at one time I was lugging my purse, my pump and about 30 pounds of baby + carrier up six flights of steps every day.

I use the stroller in the grocery store and just put my grocery items in the bottom of the stroller (we have the B-Ready model). Although, this would be less convenient if you're used to getting all of your groceries for the week in one trip.  I can't do big grocery trips because there is never any parking at our grocry store, so when I get groceries I only get what I can carry for the half mile walk home.

If I had to do it all over again, I would still go with Britax. The safety raitings for the car seats are great and our stroller has been excellent for battling the city landscape (taking curbs, unkept alleyways, broken down sidewalks) and terrible Chicago weather (takes snow and ice like a champ). You can also store a decent amount of stuff underneath.
  • @HeyStVincent I was wondering how the stroller did in city situations. I do not necessarily live in a larger city, but I was looking for something that was small when folded down for storage and travel purposes. Thanks for the information!

  • We just bought a BOB stroller on Monday thanks to @Ceventa 's suggestion. I started looking into them, loved the specs and reviews, and loved the stroller even more in person. Bonus: in-store clearance for 25% off (REI). Thanks for the recommendation!
  • I have this system from my first son and love it! I got it because the car seat had great safety ratings and the stroller has one hand fold and is light. The car seat can be a little heavy, but I don't usually carry in the seat for long. Usually just into daycare or lift out and onto stroller or into cart. I love that the stroller is super light and I can fold it and carry it with one hand and hold my son on the other arm.

  • We love our Britax travel system! If you can go to bru or bbb and try out a few. I didn't feel a difference in the weight but the ease of opening and closing the stroller was my determining factor. Plus it was the only one my mom could figure out lol
  • @Tnallen107 - the Britax folds up nicely. We have a very small space in the building entryway that we share with another family and the stroller fits nicely in that small spot. It would easily fit in a closet or anywhere else for storage.  It's super easy for transport too.
  • I personally don't like travel systems. Too bulky for me. I'm on baby #3 & my favorite combo besides baby wearing/convertible car seat, is just a snap n go and a higher end car seat. Once your baby is old enough to have some head control and can sit up better than you can start shopping for a stroller. Kids are interesting and have their own opinions. My DD did not like strollers that slightly recline, unfortunately the one we bought at its highest point still reclined & we had to sell it and try a different one.
  • I just bought the chicco key fit with Cortina stroller, got the while car seat, stroller and base for under 200 with it being marked down and 25 percent off at babies r us. I had Graco and baby trend for my first two and was not thrilled. I already can tell I'm going to love this new set. It has everything I wished my others had. And the car seat is rated really well for safety and easy to install correctly.
  • I recommend going to a store where you can try these out. I went to Babies R Us recently and found that some of the one-hand fold strollers are actually really hard to collapse, and some are really easy. And you can definitely feel the difference in weight in the car seats. I decided on which one I wanted to register for after trying them out; it was an easy decision once I saw them in person.

  • I have the Britax travel system and love it. my sister has the chicco and i'm not a fan. they're both very good quality but the Britax stroller is smaller and easier to manage and control IMO. the chicco is just a bit bulkier.

  • Hm, that's a good deal. My only hesitation is that's the infant car seat I want, but I was wanting the B-Ready stroller rather than B-Agile...not sure what I should do lol
  • @DisneyIsabelle

They had just the carseat as well! Let me see if I can find it again.

  • Thanks for the heads up on the Amazon sale! I was going to wait until we move in a few months but the deal was too good to pass up, so I went ahead and ordered today.
  • @Mfuller76

Ours just came in and is in HORRIBLE condition. The labels had all peeled off, the handle was broken and it had a layer of dust across it an inch thick. We are returning it. Hope yours is better! Now I don't know if we should get the same thing, but from somewhere else, or try something different...
