Baby Names

A Sibling for James

We're so torn on a name for our 2nd child (TTC, but it took 3 years the first time so it may be a while before we really need to decide). We've never been sold on a girls name but had DS's name, James, picked out for ages. LN starts with a K and a 'core' sound. MN for a girl will be Katherine. I want something that goes nicely with James, but isn't overly matchy.

Boys:
Names that we like, but can't use: Elliott, Daniel, William, John, Henry
Names that we like: Benjamin

Girls:
Names that we like, but can't use: Cora, Claire
Names that we like: Maren, Juliet, Audrey

Any suggestions? You ladies always have such awesome ones. TIA!

  • Audrey Katherine and James is perfect.
  • @ElRuby @missemmawoodhouse Aubrey is super popular in our area for girls. Do you think she's doomed to a lifetime of correcting people if we go with Audrey?

Audrey is such a well established girl name that I have a really hard time thinking that people will try to correct it to Aubrey.
  • I don't like Maren- what about Mara?
  • I love Benjamin and Audrey from you list. Other suggestions:

  • Wow! We have very similar taste in names. My son is also named James. His middle name is Daniel, and we strongly considered both Henry and William for his first name. Maren was also my top choice for a girl, but hubby vetoed it. I also had Claire and Audrey on my list.

Perhaps you would like some of the other names that we considered...

    Boys: Isaac, Oliver, August

    Girls: Olive, Elizabeth

I don't. There's an Aubrey up the street from me and I've never thought Audrey even though I know more Audreys than Aubreys.

    Plus:

  • I like all your names.

    Nicholas
    Mitchell
    Anthony

I don't think I have any girl suggestions in your style that are better than your current options. I like Audrey and Maren.

DS was almost James Daniel...we swapped his MN for a family name at the last minute. That's crazy!

I do like Isaac, but that's our godson's name so I guess that one's off the list, haha. Elizabeth is DH's ex who was insane. I like Olive and Oliver, though...I'll have to see if I can get DH on board.

I love Maren and DH is on board, but he prefers Juliet (I don't want another J name and Shakespeare references). We both like Audrey, but are mildly concerned that it's too close to my name (Ashley) and the rampant explosion of Aubrey/Aubree/Aubreigh in our area. I don't want my daughter, with a classic, beautiful name, to get confused with that trendy mess. Bah.

Thanks ladies for your suggestions! I'm definitely adding to my list...we'll see what DH likes. :)

Right?! Audrey is so classic that I would seriously side-eye anyone who got it confused, but I know of 4 little girls named Aubrey born last year (including one at daycare) that the concern crept into my brain and won't. effing. leave.

Coming out of lurking... I'm a mother of an Audrey, and sadly, I have had to correct several people who have called her Aubrey. I have one of a few very similar names, so I know how annoying it is to be called the wrong name all the time. I feel bad that I set my daughter up for the same problem. But, I don't think I would have named her differently, even if I had known how popular Aubrey was. It's a great name, and Aubrey will fade away.

Also, we had Katherine on our middle name list, but didn't use it because of the double Hepburn association. Just something you may want to consider.

I like all of your names, and pps gave some great suggestions. Good luck deciding!
