Thunder thighs!

Does anyone else feel like they are growing wider in the hips/thighs already?! I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow and I notice my thighs getting larger more than my belly. I'm only 5'4" and I'm typically very toned and in shape. However, I'm very susceptible to gaining weight in my butt/thighs. Any 2nd time moms that can attest to this being 'normal' during pregnancy?

  • @pizza&wine thanks for the info! That makes sense. Unfortunate side effect, I s'pose. I'd much rather be sporting a cute bump, though ;)

@ElcaB yes, thank goodness for leggings and yoga pants :)

    Me too

I am usually pretty fit, but I am pear shaped so all weight goes straight to my thighs first. I'm trying not to worry about it this time around because I've read that retained thigh fat is good for breastfeeding, and I know my legs will get back to their normal size eventually. I'm still doing my pure barre workouts just to make sure I still have some muscle tone under all the extra fluff.

  • @TheTamedShrew oh I've always wanted to try Pure Barre!! We just had a studio open up in our city a few weeks ago and people are going nuts for it! Way to go for keeping up with exercise. I normally only do cardio a couple days a week and the rest of the week I hit the weights pretty hard. Unfortunately, having no energy has left me feeling very weak. I've been walking for about an hour a day and hoping that I'm feeling stronger in the 2nd tri.

  • @ahackett1990, well I wouldn't say I'm "keeping up" because I have only mustered the strength to get through 4 workouts since I got my BFP, but hopefully now that my nausea has subsided I can get back in it more regularly. I highly recommend it. The ab workouts are awesome. I bought the six dvd set because ain't nobody got time for attending classes (I would have to find a sitter or go at like 5 a.m.). It comes with three pieces of equipment (ball, ring, and resistance band) and I use my mantel as the "barre". I already had a yoga mat. This way I can do it in my living room whenever I find time for it.

  • Yep. So fun. Makes me so grateful for all manner of stretchy pants.
  • My nanny (who has 2 girls 1 boy) took one look at my thigh/butt region and said "Oh my! Looks like you're having a girl!" Apparently for her she gained all her weight with her girls in the badonkadonk. And mine must be growing too!

  • @izzetoot I was told the same thing when I was pregnant for DD! A coworker with 5 children told me I was "getting wide" and the same happened to her with her girls. She was right about what I was having, but I'm bottom heavy as it is, so I'm not sure I wouldn't have "gotten wide" either way.

  • @izzetoot really?!  My husband has a feeling it's a boy but he really wants a little girl.  I read somewhere that if your left boob is slightly larger then it's more likely to be a girl and if the right one is bigger it's more likely to be a boy!  I've been thinking for a couple weeks that the left one is bigger.  Funny old wives tales!

  • @ahackett1990 I've never heard that wives tale. But I'll throw in that my left boob was my "bigger, better" boob while I breastfed DD. Granted, it wasn't noticably bigger until I was breastfeeding and remains bigger now (I stopped BF'ing 5 months ago). I know it's anecdotal, but I still think old wives tales are fun.

Haha! Thats awesome.  So you get lopsided boobies and a huge butt when you have a girl!? Not fair! I have heard little girls steal the mommas beauty away by giving them acne and not so much of a glow.  With my DS I had awesome skin, amazing hair, I hardly gained any weight in my butt/thighs, I felt great all the time, and people were always complementing me on my glow.  Can't say I have experienced any of that so far... I feel like total crap and none of my pants fit!

  •  :( I'm so glad for this post, I thought I was alone! I swear, my thighs have expanded so much that they get SO hot when I'm trying to sleep. Makes me feel enormous, in not even a bit of a cute, preggo way.
  • I've got the dreaded noassatall disease I wish it would get bigger
  • @lovelylauren86 aww you can have some of mine :) Maybe yours will grow soon!!

  • @lovelylauren86 I'm also butt-less.

And my left boob was and remained a bit larger but I had a boy...

  • @AnnaS930 oh bummer, how dare the old wives tale not be accurate! :)  Maybe I never took a good look at my boobs before I got pregnant...maybe the left one has always been bigger.  Now I'm just much more aware of how fast they are growing!

  • @ahackett1990 - I think mine was always a bit bigger.. but when breastfeeding it definitely produced more than righty, so it remained a bit bigger. I think they're pretty even right now.. I haven't compared that closely - I just see them quickly in the mirror and think "Boo-yea! I've got a chest again!"

  • @ahackett1990 I've never heard the lopsided boob theory, either!  Though I do find it interesting because with DD, my right boob was my "super boob" when breastfeeding.  (I don't remember which, if either, was bigger during my pregnancy but the right was the clear winner from the time my milk came in until I stopped BFing a year later.)  This time, my left boob is significantly larger than my right!  Maybe making up for always coming in second before?  Haha.
