Pain in upper right back by shoulder

Has anyone gotten pain in the upper right back by their shoulder? Like a knife stabbing pain?  I get it I think its digestion related... sometimes from spicy foods or my stomach may be gassy as well. Tums etc does nothing. I got this with my son and towards the end it was just awful..point where I couldnt sleep. I have brought it up at my apts and the docs just look at me like im weird and tell me to stretch... its like really?  Or they said to try like pepcid or something... just wondering if anyone with heartburn or gas gets pain in their back too.  My mgr had this and it ended up being her gall bladder (gallstones) every time I mention it to the doc they say no no no its not that.

  • If it's gallstones, your lab values or gallbladder ultrasound should give you the answer. Those are fairly easy to get done and safe during pregnancy. I would talk to your PCP about it since you're not getting many answers from your OB.

  • I had that!! I had it around 8 weeks. It got to where I couldn't lie flat in the bed or my whole shoulder will spasm. I chalked it up to a pulled muscle and kept a heating pad on it. It eventually stopped

  • It could be gas - sometimes gas pain can present in weird places and I've had it in my shoulder area before. Maybe try some GasEx - that usually helps me.

  • Gas-X, Zantac, or you could try a heating pad on low-medium but don't stay on it long enough to elevate your temp.

you can also try Tylenol or better yet a chiropractor or acupuncture.

    Feel better!

I had gallbladder attacks with my first. It started like gas or indigestion and then would get more intense and radiate up through my back. As I got further in my pregnancy the attacks got worse and lasted longer.

I had to change my diet (low fat/low sodium) and when the attack came I was told drink water and lay on my left side.
