3rd Trimester

trazadone

I was put on 50mg trazedone at 27 weeks for SEVERE insomnia. I Couldn't sleep more than 15 minutes at a time, getting an hour a night if I'm lucky. I want to stop taking it when baby comes because I don't want it in my breast milk. Anyone know how difficult it will be to quit?

I was on this when many years ago and I don't believe I had a hard time coming off at all.  I believe I slowly decreased the dosage and it was fine.  I personally always hated being on it anyways, just because I dislike the feeling of passing out uncontrollably.  But if you insomnia is bad enough it's a necessary evil.
  • Hey! Honestly I was on trazadone for years before becoming pregnant, and my doctor encouraged me to wean myself off of it by the start of my second trimester which I was not happy about at all. It took me months to wean myself off because I had such a hard time. I was on 50mg and cut the pill into 1/4ths and was taking 3/4 of a pill for 3 weeks, 1/2 a pill for 3 weeks after that and then 1/4 of a pill for 3 weeks. I was utterly and completely dependent on trazadone for years. If I missed even one night of it, I would not function the next day what so ever. I would feel like I was in a constant haze or feel like I was dreaming if that makes any sense at all. Even if I had it the next night, the foggy/dreaming feeling would last a week or more from when I missed the pill. My mom is also on trazadone and the same thing happens to her if she missed a pill. Now that I'm finally off of it, I feel fine, and since you'll only be on it until the end of your pregnancy rather than for years I think the process of stopping trazadone will be much easier for you. I wish you luck! I'm not trying to turn you off of trazadone but I just figured I'd share my experience of coming off of it because it was honestly one of the hardest things I've ever done. It took me 2 months to be able to fall asleep on my own and stay asleep for more than an hour at a time.
