You know you're a mom when...

What are things you never would've thought you'd be doing before you became a mom?

I get excitement out of picking boogers out of my baby's nose...

  • I called the pediatrician office a few weeks ago..
I started going into detail about my sons poop
I stopped and said "god, I'm such a mom"

  • @Rach8672 I second that as well! Sooo funny, every fart and burp is exciting. Especially the big ones!
  • Lol at pretty much agreeing to a T to what you all have said, especially celebrating a bowel movement and getting excitement out of picking boogers.  DH thinks I am twisted because I love using the nasal aspirator on him every couple of days. I also liked knowing that the few times we had to stimulate him with a thermometer to get him to poop that some relief was coming on not only his end...literally, but DH and I would get a break from his constant crying and fussiness over not being able to go.

For me, it has been the few times I've been nagged at (in a loving way) for worrying too much about DS.  I've already gotten the; "relax and enjoy yourselves" talk from both my mom and my MIL.  When I call or text DH about how he's doing, he has no resorted to sarcasm and telling me he's been abducted by aliens or that he has him upstairs helping him out with our renovations with an electric drill in his hands.  :p Pretty much, I need to take a chill pill and realize that DS is in amazing hands and I do need to just relax and enjoy whatever free time I have.

  • I had a I'm a mother to an infant again moment about a week after he was born.  It was 3am and while other 25 yr olds might be getting home from the bar I was getting projectile pooped on. I have a 5 yr old and I'm not kidding this was way over the top! I took pictures it was so ridiculous. Which might be another thing that a mother would do ha.
  • When you spend so much time getting everyone else ready for family pictures that you leave the house in slippers and actually make it out of the driveway before realizing it

Your baby pukes on you and you still wear the shirt all day after brushing it off once it dries

You get excited when your baby has a good poop

You get excited when your fussy baby farts and burps so she feels better

When you have a spare moment for yourself, you have to decide between eating, sleeping, and showering. That's it. Shower rarely wins though.
Sleeping almost always wins these days

  • When you haven't had a mani/pedi in weeks (or in my case since LO was born) and don't foresee taking the time to get that done anytime soon (and really purchasing a box of diapers seems like a much better use of that money anyway). :)
  • before the baby, I'd either be mad or desperate/crying over being up during the middle of the night because I can't sleep. Now, I know the exact reason as to why I, "can't sleep" and it's not all that bad once you take a look down at what's keeping you up.  :)

This,  I had insomnia before baby now it's actually nice that I have a reason to be up
  • I went to church by myself, because DD was having a bad day. I was only gone an hour and a half, but I missed her so much!
(and ditto on the going to bed early. I was asleep at 7pm last night!)
  • -Hand me downs never sounded so good!
-you weigh the pros and cons of taking the boppy with you every time you leave the house
-every little mark or spot on LO raises way more concern than it should
-your reason for wanting to stay in usually involves the fact that you have nothing that fits right
  • @happyandhopeful3 I go upstairs and start night time routine of bath pjs and feeding by 7 then as soon as I get the baby to sleep I go to sleep until he wakes to eat! I love going to bed early haha
  • @happyandhopeful3 DS gets incredibly cranky wanting bedtime routine to start no later than 7. He is 7 weeks old now tho, but I started doing a strict bedtime routine for him around 2 weeks old whenever he got hungry around 7-9 and now he knows when it's getting close to that time. He does wake up around 11/12 and then 3/4 but it usually gets me to bed no later than 9 which is great!

I agree with the always being slightly damp and taking forever to prep for going out of the house. I don't run errands or get groceries without a list now vs before I just browsed and took my time and that is definitely not possible now
