2nd Trimester

Intercourse in the bath tub?

Hey everyone.. I have a weird question but I couldn't find much info about it anywhere! I'm 18 weeks pregnant and last night had sex in our jacuzzi, is it safe? Will it harm the baby? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Also, I know it isn't supposed to be hot, it was a warm bath and I was in it less than 15 minutes.

Re: Intercourse in the bath tub?

  • What about it would make it not safe?

  • The only answers I've found were on yahoo answers and it said bacteria gets pushed up into the vagina and causes a more serious infection.
  • Jacuzzi's are recommended anyway for the temperature concern, but as long as you urinated afterward you should be fine.

Bath tub does not equal jacuzzi. They are NOT the same thing.

It is our personal bathtub that has jets in it, not a hot tub. Sorry, I know that Jacuzzis are hot tubs, I've just always called it that! Thank you!
  • You will find out soon enough  if you get a yeast infection or BV. I'd say you are good though being that it was in a bath not a hot tub.
  • Another person on there said that water could get pushed up into your uterus which could harm the baby.. Does anyone know if that's true?
  • i feel like these are all things you should be discussing with your doctor instead of hopping on TB & asking us. i dont really see how water could get pushed up into your uterus, but I'm not a doctor so i have no idea.
  • I'm going to call in the morning, I was just curious to see if anyone else had any information until then.
  • The main cause for concern whether pregnant or not is that in water your natural lubrication gets washed away and the friction can cause microscopic tears in your lady bits where bacteria can give you an infection. I'd keep it out of the water but you're probably fine... Just keep an eye out for uti's in the next couple of weeks if your overly concerned. As long as the water was under 100ish degrees and you weren't in for long there's no cause for concern... Especially being in second trimester (elevated body temps are more detrimental in the beginning of first trimester when the neural tube is developing)

Your uterus is protected by the cervix.

I will say, the one time I didn't this, I got a yeast infection. I'd avoid it, but obviously you already did it, so....

  • Water can't get pushed up into your uterus. The cervix protects it from that.

However water can end up in your vagina and cause a yeast infection or other infection. The general recommendation with water sex during pregnancy is to not do it.

But it I do agree with some PPs you should check with your doctor on stuff like this
  • As long as he didn't blow air into your vagina, I'd guess you're likely fine. What did the doctor say?

This made me think of this:
