We regularly go out for sushi with coworkers etc. I don't yet feel comfortable telling everyone since its so early on. For those of you that have been pregnant before what are your go-to items when you go to a sushi restaurant? Thanks!
I am a sushi addict, so I am always eating it. However, now that I'm pregnant again, I make sure I order rolls with things that are cook like tempura shrimp, California rolls or eel( Eel is usually always cooked for sushi). Veggie rolls and edamame are good too, and a bunch of ginger as it helps settles my morning sickness!
This is my first pregnancy, but I just ordered sushi today. I usually order at least one tuna roll, but I stuck with tempura shrimp, avocado, and cooked salmon and still got my wasabi and soy sauce fix (even if the salt made me nauseous today).
Thank you for your quick responses! @Brickbride@Julia70286@moosette113 !! I'm going out in a few hours and I was scrambling since I couldn't find anything concrete online. Thanks!
The sushi I get is high quality and very conscious about contamination. I still eat the raw sushi just fine. I did the same with my last two pregnancies as well.
Sweet potato rolls--even if the menu doesn't list them, they'll make them for you. SO GOOD! Avocado rolls (natch) Unagi (cooked eel) Shrimp whatever, you know... it's cooked.
Is smoked salmon considered cooked? If so, then a Philly Roll. Yummmmm, now I want sushi.
My OB said NO seafood at all, because of infections, diseases and bacteria that they're seeing more and more in fish, especially farmed fish. So I'm staying on the safe side even though I ate it with every other pregnancy.
If you are ordering cooked fish or veggie rolls, you can also ask for fresh knives and a wash down of the prep surface to prevent cross contamination. Sushi places do that for allergic and pregnant customers all the time.

Unfortunately smoked fish is not considered safe. This saddens me greatly.
California roll, shrimp tempura, any other all-cooked or veggie rolls....bento boxes, and most places have something like volcano chicken (spicy) or teriyaki. I heard it was suggested to get sushi with soy paper instead of seaweed, did anyone else?
I would just avoid raw. But if you think about it, in places where sushi is a staple, they don't stop eating it when they're pregnant. I wouldn't worry too much if you're eating high quality at a reputable restaurant.
Another thing to consider is the mercury levels. I love sushi so much too! There is an app called safe seafood that is really helpful to determine which fish is ok to eat and which is not ok.
