Okay, what's normal in the world of spit up? LO wants to eat literally all. day. long. which wouldn't bother me except that she will spit up after every feeding unless you hold her upright for about an hour and get a really good burp out of her and even then there is usually spit up. I would consider this normal, but for the past 3 nights right before bedtime she has thrown up a ton- like projectile, soaking herself, me, and our sheets. Last night I tried to be really careful not to over feed her and she still did it and then wanted to eat again right after! I can't hold her upright against my chest without her rooting and getting upset if I don't get my boob out. I've tried spacing out feedings, using the paci more, block feeding, cutting out dairy, and keeping her upright as long as possible, but it's like all this girl wants is to eat eat eat and then throw up. She didn't seem too bothered by the spitting/throwing up until last night and then she was fussy pretty much all through the night.
Is anyone else going through this or have any advice?
Re: Spitting/throwing up
thing. I fed her this morning and she spit up 4 times within less than an hour. And then she was hungry again (of course!) she's 17 days old. We have her peds appointment tomorrow and we were planning on bringing it up then especially after this morning....hopefully it all gets figured out! (For all our sakes!)
He too was gaining weight and peeing and pooping regularly, but I wasn't going to just let the doctor tell me that was okay and to disregard the issue. I tried holding him upright, burping more in between feedings, etc. It was helping a little bit, but if he spit up a good majority of his 3oz bottle, I knew I'd be feeding him again within 1-2 hours, and it was become a vicious cycle. Because he was spitting up so much, his esophagus was getting irritated and he'd cry, which would irritate it more and the spitting up would become more frequent. The medicine has def. helped.
It sounds like you're EBF? I ask, because my dr. recommended for every 2oz of formula, to put a tsp. of rice cereal in it. It would thicken up the formula and help to keep it down in his belly.
