Backwards Worries?

Okay our little girl is 6.5 months old and 20lbs 28inches. So she's 95% and above for both. At the same time- she's lowered how many ounces per day. She's always been a solid 24oz per day but now she's 20oz per day. The pedi said not to worry as long as she's not below 16 oz. but of course I do. She eats breakfast (home made pancakes and usually an apple slice, and dinner which is a pouch (3.5oz), if she can't sample off our plates, and some puffs or a mum-mum. We do mostly BLW.

I worry that my little girl is huge for her age (most people assume she's around 10 months) and at the same time that she's not drinking enough formula. I'm officially crazy!

Re: Backwards Worries?

  • My son is also 20 pounds and 6 and 1/2 months! Don't worry mama lol and I've also gotten that my son looks older than he is but every baby is different and I think your baby girl probably has lowered her ounces because she is eating solids and it might fill her up so she doesn't want those extra ounces of formula. Pancakes sound yummy by the way and remember I personally fill up with pancakes lol My mom also told me as our babies grow the ounces will decrease because they will start eating solids. If your ped isn't worried then don't worry mama! Your baby sounds healthy and happy lol you're doing great  keep us updated !

  • The last few days my son has stopped drinking as much. He normally will take 8 oz in the morning and then 7 or 6 during the day and food twice but he has not been finishing his bottles. We even dropped it back down to 6. He has his 6 month check up next week but hopefully this is just normal.
  • My baby is breastfeed, so I don't actually know how many oz she drinks a day. I know it has been less though because I'm not losing weight anymore. Not to brag, but I had lost 20 lbs just by BF. Since she started eating purees and cereal the weight loss had stopped. You shouldn't worry if your doctor isn't. Your baby is taking in more food and is going to need less milk.
  • LOs start to ween and eat less once you begin introducing solids. It's normal. My ped was actually surprised that he was still eating 30 oz of formula at 6 months. He hasn't started dropping off yet, but we haven't been super consistent with solids until this past week (he was pretty sick for a week or so, and wasn't really interested in solids before that...at 6.5 months he's finally started to become interested in them). If your ped isn't worried and weight gain is good, I wouldn't worry.
