Crafty mamas catch up

So several months ago we had a post asking if anyone was crafty or into DIY and there were a decent number of ladies who seemed to be. Since people are working on nurseries and getting ready for baby time I thought it might be nice to see what (if anything) crafty mamas have been working on or what they are planning to do.

So I finally started my first baby blanket!  The purple looking color was actually looking more beige/grey than purple/lavender when I bought it but it seems when its mixed with that cream it leans more to the purple tones. I intended this to be a bassinet / pram blanket but I measured it when groggy and I obviously wasn't thinking straight so its actually crib sized. Ok so its not the prettiest blanket but guys . . . I have only been crocheting for a short time! I'm better at knitting but I don't enjoy it as much.

I have a few other cute items I plan to knit for the little munchkin like a dress, mittens, warm hat and a jacket . . . she will be born in fall here so I need some warm stuff.

@Kurrant: That looks great--not just for a beginner but for any crocheter!  

I haven't started any projects yet:( Both because I've been busy but also because I'm a procrastinator and also because I cannot believe baby is scheduled to arrive in less than 3 months!

I want to see what everyone posts!

I just finished my cotton jersey moby wrap. I think I am going to do a knit jersey because it is breathable. 
Plus I have been making my own burp clothes, car canopy, and nursing cover.

Oooh! I was just thinking of starting a thread on this when my insomnia kicked in at 3am! I don't have anything crafty going for the nursery right now but if I get my acrylic painting done today I will share!

@Kurrant I love the blanket! I can't crochet but I knit and I picked out my yarn before I knew what we are having, which is fine bcuz I picked girl colors which is what she is lol but now I've changed the color I want in the nursery so I'm going to make two blankets (if I find the time) one for the crib and one for everywhere else my older sister is a lot more crafty than I am and she has some cute ideas for my nursery but won't be back here until March so until then I'll just knit and paint !

I have been making blankets and burp cloths like crazy! My favorite is a navy blue flannel blanket with wolves wearing neon sunglasses. I put a neon green ribbon around it. How do I post photos from my phone on mobile bump???

I'm not really doing much for this baby-- I'm making some new/additional featherweight jersey nursing scarves (super duper easy) and I raided my fabric stash to make new covers for pillows for the shared-nursery during nap-time a few weeks ago. I may make some hooded bath towels at some point. I did more complex things for DS...but this baby will benefit from them too.

I'm getting some things to make some wooden letters to spell out the baby's name for her room this weekend. While I'm there I'll probably also be getting some yarn to start crocheting a blanket for her. I also wanted to make her Christmas stocking as well... I know it's really early but it's cross stitch and it takes forever so I need to get started now.

DH is planning on making a toy box for her as well.

I plan on making this hat only with teal or purple instead of pink! Her room is going to be monkies and I want a newborn pic in the hat to hang in the nursery

I'm usually a furniture renovator but I've been limited by my bump and ability to breathe in stripping and paint fumes lol. This is only the second thing I've ever tried to knit (I made a scarfs last year that were extremely simple). I'm happy with how it looks so far I just haven't had much time to work on it.

I have a blog that I haven't posted to in probably a year because I loved the idea and then never actually followed through- maybe I'll start that back up. :-) Thank you, with the exception of the umbrella portion of the mobile I followed patterns- I'm happy to hunt them down and share them with anyone who is curious :-)  And at the risk of tooting my own horn I realized I forgot the Dragon I made her (I'm a bit obsessed with Figment from Epcot so that's who the dragon is inspired by) . I fidget a lot if I don't have something to do- so crocheting helps calm my fidgets.

For those of you who have made homemade mobiles, how are you hanging/attaching them to the crib? I wanted to hang mine from the ceiling but DH won't let me. I can't seem to find a good "hanger" online that isn't over $50 or too short...

We ordered one from amazon- it's taking a while to come- and apparently it ships in 2 parts and they didn't tell us that. I was just going to hang it from the ceiling but the hubby wanted it to have music and turn.

I crochet and am getting back into sewing, after learning basic skills when I was much younger. My mom would make clothes and costumes for us growing up so I had a lot of overall exposure to the skill. 
Sewed a few bandana bibs so far and working on some cloth diaper covers

Made these butterflies to add to the nursery.  This was previously a boys nursery (twice) and we have a Winnie the Pooh mural, so just adding a touch of girl

I've crocheted a blanket and need to put a border on it now that we know DD2 is a girl. I've also got a ton of lilac yarn I really should do something with.

I like to sew, knit, and crochet. I found some fun montessori-inspired DIY's online for making simple rattles and teething toys. I've also been using up scraps of fabric for rattles and a crinkly-toy.

I saw that one too @dsmith211, but DH doesn't want to spend that on a mobile, so I'm trying to find a different route!

@skg008 Yes! Crinkle toys, ribbon animals/blankies, and cloth-covered teething/fiddle necklaces for bf are all great ways to use up random fabric and are easy to make; I made a bunch for DS last pregnancy. Just be sure to double-seam ribbons in place, make lengths that aren't long enough to tangle, and choose fabric with a tight enough weave that it can't be bitten through.

I got some sewing in during part of naptime today since I had a snow/ice day! A new minky boppy cover and a new minky/faux fur lined throw for the rocker. 

For anyone looking to work with minky fabrics, I used Shannon brand and really liked the way it washed and handled. The only downside is that it's linty to cut-- but it didn't shed or pill in the wash, or clog up my cheapo sewing machine. The picture is in the livingroom since DS is still sleeping.

We made curtains & a pleated crib skirt. We need to buy more curtain clippies & lower the rod yet though, so the curtains look a little lame right now. The fabrics are matching patterns, but different types of fabric.

I looked up a diy converting a regular bra to a nursing bra. There were two versions, one added a little fabric to keep the strap in place while the cup folds down and the other just had the strap detach from the cup. Has anyone tried this conversion?  What style do you think would be better?

@EErin86 I'd say that the one that will keep the strap in place is going to be more useful as long as there isn't too much fabric there.

I want to do this myself too!!!! If you do it let me know what you decide! And what clips to use!!

Worked on this over the weekend, still need white flowers for the outer ring. Turns out it would have been cheaper to buy on etsy already made but I'm still happy to make it myself. I miss painting but all of my paints have warnings for fumes.
