Was anyone else in absolute agony having steroid shots?

Had my first one this morning, I normally have an incredibly high pain threshold (fractured my spine a few years ago and the hospital didn't believe me because I walked in!) but boy oh boy this morning was unbearably painful, not sure if it was just done badly or if tomorrow will be the same absolutely terrified for tomorrow now. Any advice on how to stay calm?

Yeah they hurt more than a regular shot for me..but weren't unbearable. I think part of it had to do with the element of surprise, as the needle is in your back/hip you don't see it go in. And then the muscle was pretty sore for like a day after. 
If you don't mind my asking though, why are you getting steroid shots this far along? It was my understanding that they don't really give them after 35 weeks because the baby's lungs are developed enough to not collapse.

I had a steroid shot a few years ago for an allergic reaction and I, too, remember it being surprisingly painful. I felt like I could feel it traveling through my bloodstream and my muscles felt so achy afterwards.

Flowerintherain,  I think they must have done it wrong today then because this wad agony, she stopped and started three times and didn't seem to know what she was doing. I am pregnant with twins and having a C sec on Friday, they told me this had to be done. so worried about tomorrow now though as that was so difficult to get through.

I had to have the set of steroid shots at 34 weeks too! Definitely worst shots ever. When they first did the shot it didn't hurt, but right after it did. Delayed reaction I guess lol. However, I made sure not to get it in same area each time. One I got in my left thigh and the other was at the top of my butt, kind of hip area. I know some doctors will lightly scratch the skin of another area of the body to kind of distract. So maybe try that. Hope that made sense!

@Ropobunny I guess you had a rough nurse..I'm sorry. Idk why she would start and stop..you'd think it'd be better to just get it over and done with as quick as possible. Oh and yeah I guess having twins probably makes a difference. Good luck with your c-section tomorrow. I hope it goes as smooth as possible and you have your new little bundles immediately and with no issues!

I think you may have had a bad experience sadly  when I had mine done they hurt for about half an hour after but other then that it was okay. I did have a bruise and a lump for like 2 weeks after though!

Thank you everyone Yeah had a really terrible nurse yesterday!  Today was much easier. Just hope the spinal isn't that bad!
