May 2016 Moms

TTT

It's that time again! What's happening in your life?

It's a three thing day for me:
1. I have a sinus infection that's taken me down. I have a new found respect for my daughter when she has ear infections- I forgot how much ear pain hurts!
2. It's finally sunny and mild where I live- yay! Maybe I can muster up the strength to get the dog walked. Sunshine is a cure all for me.
3. The take home outfit thread got me excited to buy little things for this baby! I'm team green, so I'll buy one of each :)

Bonus: Coffee is my savior. The end.

Have a great day, mamas!

  • @js8812 I can't say I'm surprised by that statistic - I've never trusted that groundhog!
  • 1. I'm sitting inside drinking coffee as it starts to blizzard outside.  Oh, and the fireplace is going!

    2. We have had non-stop problems with our carwash business and it's really putting a strain on DH's and my relationship.  I just want this stuff to be fixed!

    3. DH had a job recommended to him by a friend, but it would mean moving for a 4th time in 2.5 years, 5 weeks before LO is due, and it's an additional hour's drive from family than our current 1.5 hours.  :(

    4. I'm beginning to be burnt out at my job and I am counting the weeks until maternity leave!

    5. My MIL, mom, SIL, aunt and sister are meeting this weekend to get some ideas going for my baby shower.  I'm looking forward to a lunch with the girls!

    6. I have absolutely no idea what to do for Valentine's Day. I could easily craft something for DH, but if I suggest the same for him, he will end up with a project reminiscent of a few years ago - a giant heart cut out of my good scrapbook paper (which I loved and gladly scrapbooked!).  I then found the scrap sheet stuck back into my good paper...made me giggle!

    7. It's already snowed about 1/4" since I began typing this - eek!

    8. I really need to start practicing my Spanish since we have a Rosetta Stone program.  I got it for DH 2 years ago in plans of learning the language for a trip we were taking, but we forget to use it!

    9. I really wish we could get another ultrasound of LO, as I just don't get as much satisfaction with the 30 second Doppler at our appointments :(

    10. Apparently it will be an early spring this year, which I'm excited about, but it doesn't seam feasible with a blizzard today!

    10. People keep trying to pass off their hand me downs. I will gladly take them if it's something I feel comfortable with, but don't get offended if I turn down your 10 year old crib. Yes I know it's the same model as what I want, but safety regulations have been updated since then. And yes... The person actually was offended and said I was being overly paranoid. I guess it's a good thing this is my baby then.
WTH.  I wouldn't have taken it either.  People are silly.
    1. I just ordered this cute carseat canopy cover with one of those gift cards they give you in the welcome package at Destination Maternity and only had to pay the $14.95 S&H charges (I have a promo code if anyone's interested.). I'm pretty excited!
    2. The extra-spicy tacos I had for lunch were delicious, but this resulting heartburn is miserable! :/
    3. DH stayed up most of the night finishing the wainscoting on the walls of our nursery last night (and had to be at work early this morning, poor guy), so it's ready for furniture now!
    4. I can't wait to start putting our furniture together tonight. The anticipation of having the boxes stacked in my living room for the past week and not being able to unpack them yet has been killing me!
    5. My BFF just texted a few minutes ago to say he is going to try to fly down to visit for a long weekend in a few weeks. I hope he books the trip soon because I don't know how much longer I'll be able to get out and about around town comfortably!
    6. My co-worker/friend's wife is scheduled to be induced tomorrow afternoon (if she doesn't go into labor sooner). I'm excited that our LOs are going to be so close in age. I can't wait to meet their little girl!
    7. Work has been painfully slow today because I'm at a stopping point on several projects until other people get me the info I need from their departments.  :/
That's all I've got for today.
  • @kbrands7 the Once Upon a Child sale? I wanted to go--but completely forgot.

@swflJD I have that one too!! I was just debating whether I should get a new one for a girl...or just go with it
  • 1. I'm getting really excited for all of the upcoming things: showers, classes, finishing the nursery, etc.
    2. We are meeting with two in home daycares tonight and I'm super excited about the first one!!
    3. I love feeling our girl move all over the place. s
    4. H finally felt a solid hard kick on Sunday night and he has brought it up every day so far. I love it!
    5. I'm looking forward to having an ice cream cone and a Coke at McDonald's today.
    6. It's beautiful here in Kansas during February and I love it.
    7. I've got nothing past this! But I'm super excited about the daycare!

It's a pretty gender neutral pattern (even though it's blue), so I think it would be fine for a girl. But they had some cute "girly" ones on the website, too.
  • @kami09 Yes! It was chaotic, but I'm glad I went.

Exactly! I didn't even say anything particularly offensive. I thanked them and said I appreciated it, but bc of the safety regulations we would prefer to get the new one. Of course it was someone in DH's family too so now I'm getting a guilt trip from MIL. I know it's just bc it was something sentimental to them and I probably hurt their feelings, but that doesn't mean I have to take your crib.
  • 1. One of the twins and I are sick again. not cool
    2. I made a big lasagna last night that should feed us for the majority of the week.
    3. My fingers still smell like garlic.
    4. I have an appt to see a local nursery school on Thursday!  I don't even know what to ask.
    5. I could do without the reflux at night.
    6. My parents are coming to visit in 2 weeks!
    7. This week I'm loving the under-bump pants.
    8. I joined the Sweets Addicts group, but I'm still eating way too much candy!  It is delicious.
    9. I clipped my toenails today.  getting more difficult.
    10. I might have to spring for a pedicure by the time my RCS roles around!  I currently wear socks to my OB and MFM appts!

  • @mrstmoose Where did you find the in-home daycares you are looking into? My sister and BIL use a licensed in-home daycare in their area (nowhere near me), and it works great for my niece and them. The woman who runs it lives one street away from them and was referred by their next-door neighbor. I don't know any of our neighbors, and most of my friends with kids are either SAHMs or use day care centers across town. I've looked into a few different centers on my side of town, but I'm not even sure where to begin looking for an in-home daycare.

We would ideally like to use the daycare center at my office, but it isn't scheduled to open until sometime late next month or early April. The problem is that, while it's going to have a 50-child total capacity, there are only 10 infant slots (for a company with 600+ employees). They are going to do a "lottery" for the slots if more people sign up for a particular age category than they have available. There are - just that I know of - at least 4-5 other women in my company who are expecting (and I'm sure there are more), without even including the male employees who have expectant partners. Since there's a chance we will have to find alternate child care, I would like to be able to explore all of our options. I just don't know where to start.
  • 1. DH and I cannot agree on a baby name. He's a third, and wants to have a fourth. The name is awful with no nickname options, and neither one of us wants to call him something unrelated to the name (i.e. a nickname for four.. DH has had issues with this his whole life). I'm trying to compromise by saying we can use his legal first name as a middle name or use the initials, but he's not budging. It makes me sad that something that should be fun for us is stressing me out.

    2. I have done absolutely nothing for the nursery.

    3. Granted, I was waiting to find out the gender (just found out Thursday) to pick out bedding and then go from there.

    4. I looked at bedding on Etsy and was shocked that most of it takes 6-10 weeks to come in.

    5. My SIL is going in for a c-section right now. She's 3 weeks early, but they decided to go ahead and do it since she's had high blood pressure for weeks.

    6. My half-sister's birthday is tomorrow, and I have completely failed at sending her a gift that will be there on time (she lives several states away). I feel like I should add that I have Amazon Prime.. so yeah, I could have ordered something as late as yesterday, and it would have made it.

    7. I've been stockpiling diapers and wipes. So far, I have over 2,900 wipes. I wonder how long those will actually last?

    8. My friend's baby was born with HLHS, and she's just over a year old. She just had her 4th heart surgery today, and it went well! It breaks my heart to think about this sweet babe having to go through so much, but she is tough.

    9. If i have GD, it will be from straight carbs. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but GIVE ME ALL THE CARBS.

    10. Speaking of, I'm totally having mac and cheese for dinner tonight.

  • 1. The 3 younger kids are getting their next set of vaccines today.  I'm not looking forward to it.  The oldest of the 3 always has some sort of reaction for at least a week or two after, which is why we delay and only do 1-2 at a time. It takes forever to get them all done…but hey, we're getting there.

    2. I can't get the fuel pump to work to fill up my vehicle (home pump), so now I have to go into town to fill up. It's just super annoying since the tank at the house is full.

    3. I have my 3D on Thursday.  The dh won't be home, so I'll be a lonely panda at this u/s.

    4. My oldest DD decided she wanted to take me to the movies last night.  We watched Kung Fu Panda 3 and I actually enjoyed it.  First night out in months.

    5. It's cold and snowy, I really don't want to go outside.

    6. I have less than 3 months left…Going by previous births, It could be anywhere from April 10th to April 24th.  I've never made it past 39 weeks. I really did want a May baby…

    7. My sciatica is through the roof as of late.  I'm starting to hobble because of it.  Baby is really far back, which is making it even worse.

    8. I really hate Valentine's Day. I have to have 150 Valentines for the kids to give out at school. Their classes have 25 students and most boxes of Valentines have 22 in them, which means I'll have to buy extra to cover everyone.  Celebrate if you must, but….can't we just stop handing out candy at school? Some of us can't afford that shit, and some of us just don't give a damn.

    9. My brother was bragging to me last week how his two kids are closer in age than my first two were, by a week.  I didn't realize that it was a big deal. Is that sort of stuff a big deal? I mean, really? People care about that? If you want to compare, dear brother, my 1st was 2 years 3 months and 3 weeks old when my 3rd was born…so kiss my ass.

    10. Speaking of, I hate that he lives in my basement. They can't afford to rent an actual apartment, but can afford to keep having kids on my dime.  I finally told him he has to be out by June.
  • 1. I woke up at 2am with a headache, and it hasn't gone away.
    2. My parents, married over 25 years, are going through some serious issues. I'm at the point where I'm saying go to counseling or get a divorce because this is awful. It is breaking my heart, and I have no idea how to deal with this, because they keep coming to me to tell me their sides, and I know I wouldn't tolerate how either are acting. I can't separate myself from them because I know they need me, but I don't know how I can mentally handle it.
    3. My echo came back, and it was good news. Everything is still in normal range so no changes at this time.
    4. I still eat a ton of sugar, but think "I shouldn't eat this because I posted in the sugar addicts group" each time. It is sad.
    5. My husband took the week off since he had to use the days, and he has been telling me how amazing it is. Jealous.
    6. We are going away for a couple of nights later this week, and I can't wait to get away from work and the family drama.
    7. We lucked out and got an entire wood bedroom set this weekend from someone who needed to get rid of it that day for $125! I can't wait to repaint it for the nursery dressers.
    8. Amen to @yogahh about Trump losing in Iowa.
    9. I'm covering for a coworker who is going out on paternity leave, and he has yet to get me a transition worksheet with the status of projects. I've been asking for over a week, and I only have one day left in this week, but he thinks the baby is coming while I'm out. Why am I the one hounding him? Shouldn't he be the one making sure his crap is covered?
    10. I'm so proud of all you women who accomplish stuff during the week. It takes all my energy to go to work and workout. The rest of the time, I'm pitter-pattering around the house, not doing anything meaningful.

    7.       Sometimes I get scared that even though 3 doctors have seen my A/S results, and all said it’s a girl, that we will end up having a boy! Anyone else have that worry?? If it’s a boy, I hope he likes pink and dresses ;)

Was literally just thinking this today (except I'm having a boy) since there was only one ultrasound and only one tech looked at it to tell us the sex. I thought it definitely looked like boy parts but then I've read about girl parts being engorged and resembling boy parts AND I just learned about a friend of a friend who was told she was having a boy and turned out it was a girl. Happy either way but it would be such a shock at this point after getting used to the idea of having a boy.

I've had this thought too. I thought I was having a boy before I had an ultrasound, but we're having DD#2 and we're so excited. DD#1 asked me what if it's a boy. I said I hope he likes pink and his girly bedroom.
    1. DH had a three day weekend this weekend and another one next weekend! Yay!
    2. This past three day weekend actually sucked though because I had a kidney stone. I get them regularly but I have a home remedy that makes them pass fairly painlessly. They have gotten worse with pregnancy and this one was so bad that I actually threw up 3 times from the pain.  I threw up so hard that I popped blood vessels in my eyes and face ... I spent all of Monday in bed with DH taking care of me.I have always been a pain wuss but I think if what they say is true about stones being worse than birth that I will be fine during the birth.
    3. very envious of the ladies who have the nurseries going. I doubt we will even have a completed nursery by the time baby is here. all of our money seems to be going into a lot of last minute emergency/surprise things and it really sucks.
    4. I wish so much that I was having a baby shower. Not for the stuff but just for the celebration of it all. I feel like I am missing something real special.
    5. Speaking of the stuff (I don't recall if I said this before so If i did then disregard it) everyone made such a darn huss-fuss about me making a registry. I felt stupid making one because I am not having a shower. I had about 6 family members tell me to get one going because they (and others) wanted to buy things for baby. I made it. It's not being used. I was also told not to buy anything off of it so people could use it. Not that I have the spare cash till maybe Feb or March to buy stuff but UGH! Why did I waste my time and get all stressed over it?
    6. After the "negative body image" post I decided to weigh in this morning  . . . That was a stupid idea! DH last night told me I'm getting a Kim K butt . . . and also keeps saying "we need to really watch what we eat"  I am trying, he isnt. Also what ever happened to the Tuesday healthy posts? Did they get moved to another day? Maybe they weren't tuesday . . . I dont know.
    7. I'm not doing any child birth (or any other) classes. Is that bad? I keep hearing some people say that they were unnecessary and others saying they give some valuable info.
    8. I have my next OB appointment on the 17th as well as a dentist visit. Not really looking forward to either. I dread what the doctor might say about my weight gain. I hope she just nods and writes it down like usual. Last thing I need is someone official saying in front of MH that I put on too much weight.
    9. and more on the weight topic! I've been working out and walking 4 days a week for an hour each time. I eat pretty healthy with the rare cream but really I have cleaned up my act big time since my crazy first trimester cravings . . . Why am I still putting on so much weight?
    10. Baby movements have gone from "Awwwww" to "Ouch!!!" recently. Its really uncomfortable and sometimes painful. I can't believe it's going to get stronger.
  • 1. Finally feeling movement from LO everyday now which I'm loving!
    2. I got assigned to mandatory overtime at work and my ot shift is until midnight sitting with a kid while they sleep. Really hoping to stay awake this whole time
    3. Bought a mobile for the nursery today and am ordering the dresser tomorrow. Then all we need is a glider and we can put the room together!
    4. Was told today that all of a sudden I'm looking round. Never thought I would be happy to hear that haha
    5. It's been so warm lately but just read there may be a nor'easter next week
    6. Really need a personal day as work has become more emotionally difficult since becoming pregnant (social worker working with child abuse)
    7. Really want a chocolate shake but can't leave to go get one
    8. In disbelief that it's already February and there's only a few months left before LO arrives
    9. I can't stand waiting for tax forms in the mail and just want to get them submitted but my husband is still waiting on his w2
    10. Tomorrows hump day and one day closer to Friday!

@Kurrant Can you share this remedy?? My hubby gets kidney stones a lot too and he hates going to the doctor so he wants until they are super painful before giving and going which equals a lot more money being spent!

I also am not doing childbirth classes- my doctor told me to just listen to her because chances are I'd forget everything I learn in the class- though my hubby and I might see if we can find a video or two online that covers some stuff. I will be doing a breastfeeding class- mostly because its only $25 at my local hospital- but I don't think it's bad you aren't doing one!

I used to get a stone a month. I drink up a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar every 2-3 days which seems to help keep it down to every few months but I do still get them. The moment I feel that ache in my back / side I drink a mixture that is 1/8 cup of olive oil ( not virgin) and 1/8 cup of lemon juice. I have that about 3 times a day for 1-2 days and I pass the stone with little to no pain.

Sadly with this pregnancy my doc is saying I am making them faster so they get big very quickly which I guess is why I went through hell this weekend. It actually felt stuck for a while but slipped right out after a day of agony.

Ugh that's no good. I'll pass that along to my hubby in case he wants to try it :-) I'm glad you are feeling better.

@mrstmoose Where did you find the in-home daycares you are looking into?

@swflJD - I used FB groups that were made to find daycares in my area. You can also use Childcare Aware and Daycare Connection (if available where you live...not sure where you are). You can also check out your local department for health and environment; all daycares have to be licensed so you should be able to check them out there as well.
