Infertility

IUI #3 this morning - sperm count low?

Hi all,

I’m on my 3rd IUI with a fertility doctor. Days 4-8 I took 2.5 of leterzole. My follicles on Saturday morning were:

Right side: 15.22 x 9.33, 13.05 x 9.66, 10.46 x 8.21

Left side: 21.80 x 20.02, 16.12 x 8.65

Uterus Lining: 9.38

Estrogen: 248

I triggered with HCG on Saturday night.

So looks like I only have that one mature follicle on the left. So I was disappointed this morning to find out that post wash the sperm count was 40 million with 20% motility (we are using frozen donor sperm). It’s usually been 40 million with 50% motility. So I’m pretty upset over this. Esp since I only have the one mature follicle this month. I asked the doctor what he thought of the sperm count and he said it was “just ok”. So I feel like this whole cycle is a wash now. Ahhhh is there a little hope at all here? :( I feel like I want to be more aggressive next cycle.

Re: IUI #3 this morning - sperm count low?

  • A lot of docs consider 18 to be mature, so that looks like 2 mature to me.  Also, my docs says they are doing some research that 16s can also contain mature eggs.  Your follicles also grow 2 per day until O.  So you have a chance that 15 and 16 may come on up too.  So I think your follicles look great!!
  • I agree with @bsckgb7. I would say you had 2 mature follicles, possibly 3!

As far as the sperm count, 40 mil is nothing to scoff at! Motility is a little low, but with 40 million, I wouldn't be too worried. It only takes ONE  !

GL on your TWW, and BFP prayers for you!!

  • GL & FX @daysable with your TWW, I hope this is the cycle for you ! I think each mature egg produce around 200 (do not know the units) of estrogen and this is why they might think only one mature egg , is that right ? Mine was 190 with one so you might have 2 with 250 ? But I think you should not be too worried because of the numbers, I have seen BFPs in this board with one mature follicle and lower sperm counts than yours but also ladies getting BFN s with 4-5 follicles. So the numbers are not the only important factor here. Best of luck !!!
  • You're giving us both measurements for the follicles, right? And we take an average, so you only have one over 12, so only one that's mature.

IUIs are a crapshoot. I've seen people get pregnant with crappy sperm, terrible timing, with sperm left on the counter for an hour, and just one follicle. And I've seen plenty of perfectly timed IUIs with excellent sperm fail. All you can do right now is wait.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • So insanely happy to announce I got my BFP!!
  • CONGRATS!!! Told you... only takes ONE!!

This is really encouraging as I'm doing my 3rd IUI w/ letrozole on Friday. Hoping I get the same results!! So incredibly happy for you!
