@cpocks I'm a teacher too, which is why I think that being careful with my word choice is incredibly important. If I can hep educate an adult on TB, that's awesome. But if I can help raise a generation of children who are compassionate, accepting, and considerate of all, then I'm doing my job. I'm sure we'll both teach kids who fall on the full spectrum of the gender binary during our careers, so now is the time to be cognizant of WHY it matters and to be sensitive about how you speak to them and to others.
How about this. I am OFFENDED about your misuse of sex/gender. You are not supporting me and are hurting me when you say they are the same and give redundant excuses as to why it is acceptable.
A long time ago, using the word 'nigger' was an acceptable word for some one of Africa descent. It is a derivative of Negro and Niger, which is where a majority of black slaves were from; Nigeria. It did not start off as offensive. This word has morphed into a hateful and vile word. It was slow but it is finally no longer socially acceptable*.
Just like the word retarded, fag, queer..... these words did not start of as today's meanings, and meaning were harmless. Today, they are hurtful.
And that is the thing about hurting some one. You don't get to argue why you didn't hurt them or why it is ok to continue to do so. And to continue to hurt some one on purpose, after being educated as to why, shows lack of class, tact, while being cruel, hateful and abusive. Period.
Re: What week did you find out your baby's gender?
Just wanted to drop in and say that July is my second favorite BMB! Always a good time here in July.
