Trouble TTC

pcos and provera

Hello, I'm really confused on how to taking provera.  I was just dx with pcos and I was given provera to get period.  I  will take it for four months to see what happens.  I will talk with my dr too but I was just wondering how I take it.  I'm to start tomorrow on the first and take it for 10 days, I've read it could take up a week to for a period to start.  But when would I start the next round.  I mean do I start on the first again, which would be about two weeks after a period?  Like I said I will call my dr to double check, but  I'm just trying to figure it out now.  Any input would be great.

TIA

Re: pcos and provera

  • Ive taken Provera twice. I dont O or get AF on my own. Im not sure why they perscribed it that way. Is it an OB or an RE? Regardless, you should have blood work done about 25-30 days into your cycle to confirm O then they start you. Thats how my RE works. They dont just perscribe it for 4 months. Thats odd.

And dont be surprised if AF takes longer then 7 days. Everyone is different but mine did not start until 11 days after my last pill. It can take 5-12 days before your cycle starts.

  • I think it's odd that they prescribed it for 4 months as well. I typically take it when a cycle is cancelled and I need to get AF since I don't O on my own. I would call the RE for clarification on that one.

Also, it typically takes me 2-3 days after the 10 days to get AF! GL!

  • Thanks for the replies, right now I've started provera to help with a cyst I have on my ovary and see if it will kick start my periods to start on there own again.  My ob hopes it will help shrink it since I haven't had a real period in about 7 months.  I go back for an u/s in four months so I guess that's why I'm taking it for four month to start.  I don't know if I will ovulate on my own anymore but were waiting a few months before ttc again.  I guess I am to take it the first of every month.  Since my ob would like the cyst gone before going on to any medicated cycles, so were not worrying about if I'm ovulating right now
