my little Bub had her immunisations this morning and has slept the majority of the day! I've had to wake her to feed her then she goes right back to sleep. Anyone else had this yet?
Leo hasn't had his yet but I remember when ds had his first round of shots. He slept all day long and was really fussy when he was awake. It was so sad. I hope Leo takes them well with minimal side effects. I'm sure your lo will be back to her normal self soon!
Yep. Both my kiddos do this. DD had her two month vaccinations Tuesday and is still sleeping a lot. DS had his fifteen month shots a couple weeks ago and did the same. Then I think of the last flu shot I had and all I wanted to do was sleep for the next few days.
Sorry I just have to say if you would do a little bit of research you'd know it's common. We haven't got our shots yet but I've already looked at side affects. I'm also surprised your doc didn't say anything or mention they could possibly have a fever afterwards.
I'm pretty angry with my doctor right now. DD just got her 2 month shots and he did not warn us that she would be so miserable afterwards. She had a fever and was very sore. When she's not sleeping, she's screaming. It wouldn't have changed my mind about getting them, but a heads up would have been nice.
Poor babies! I'm dreading ours soon even though they combine 3 shots into 1 now. Did anyone elses pediatrician suggest giving tylenol before the appointment? I've heard about it but mine didn't say anything (not uncommon, their communication is less than impressive for everything.) Even if he or she doesn't get a fever, at least for the pain? What do you think?
So my experience with Tylenol is this. We were told to give it when we were leaving for the appointment. The first time DS got shots we hadn't been told this and they gave it to him at the start of the appointment. There was one time we forgot and it was awful. It didn't change his reaction (they were boosters) but it does help their pain and general comfort when they get the shots.
When they've had reactions afterwards, like running a fever, we were told to give them Tylenol every 4-6 hours until it passed. I don't know how it would mask a reaction otherwise. Fever is the most common and is really expected. I don't know any other reaction Tylenol would mask. It wouldn't stop a baby from vomiting, for example.

@Mizuiro007 I am leaning towards this. I want to catch it ahead as much as I can. I'll call our pedi on Mon and see what her opinion is.
Seeing a reaction makes sense as well, I also want to know what Tylenol would specifically mask.
@angelicac06 I'd really like to know what she says as this is the first I've heard any objection to the Tylenol. I suppose maybe if they hadn't had it before and the reaction could be the tylenol?

I was also told no tylenol before the shots. Like mentioned before, you need to know what shots (if any) baby will react to.
@Katy0525 does it matter that the vaccines are combined? Because I don't believe there's a way to which one of the 3 inside that one caused it right?
I'm not sure how you do vaccines where you are but my lo gets some of the same vaccines every couple months. Not just a big dose right away. If my lo would have a reaction to it the first time I can be better prepared for it when he gets his next dose. I am assuming that is why they said no tylenol before hand.

I am aware it's common. And I have done loads of research, I was wondering if anyone on this forum had experienced this yet or was going through it.
I thought it would be interesting to chat about different experiences thus far.
i also never said my doctor didn't say anything about having a fever afterwards etc. I was well aware of this too. I find comfort in discussing these sorts of things with other women and hearing about their experiences as they go through them also.
With DS1, I'm pretty sure I remember my pedi telling me not to give Tylenol before getting shots because it could possibly decrease the effectiveness of the shot.

Sorry your question implied you were concerned. I apologize for jumping to conclusion.
OP- DD had her shots last week and she also slept a lot of the remainder of the day. She didn't appear to have any other side effects other than the drowsiness and I did not give her Tylenol before or after. I did try to be as careful as possible not to squeeze her little legs the next couple days since I knew they were likely sore where she was stuck with the needles. She was a tough little cookie from the start...already stopped crying by the time I had her back in her car seat and to the front desk to make her 4mo appt!

@Mizuiro007 Pedi said no Tylenol before. He got his shots yesterday unfortunately.
He was okay at first smiling and everything then all of a sudden bam he was upset! No fever thank God and he slept fine. I was the one who couldn't sleep checking on him. I am going to need serious coffee.
My girl had her shots today. The screaming! She was fine once we left and has been eating then sleeping since.
My son had them too, the screaming when he got them was so horrible I cried lol! He's been very sleepy and cranky today. I hope our LOs feel better tomorrow

DD had hers last Wednesday. She screamed during the shots, but the nurse was super fast and she stopped screaming when they were over and then I nursed her.
She slept hard that day and ran a low fever that night so we gave her Tylenol. That made her drowsy and she slept all night. She was a little off for 3-4 more days. Fussy, weird eating schedule, didn't sleep the best, but got back to normal on Sunday.
My DD had her shots yesterday morning and tonight she just woke for her feeding but she has been sleeping for most of the day. She is pretty hot so next chance I get I am giving her some Tylenol
My LO was sleepy but then became fussy, she has maybe a low grade fever but I am giving Tylenol. She is still nursing every 2.5 hours so I'm not worried about dehydration
DD slept for 7 hours the night she got her vaccines. She also had a low grade fever before bed and in the morning. Had to give her 2 doses of paracetamol. Apparently giving them too much pain reliever can counter the vaccines. That's what my pedi said anyway when I asked if I could give her some even if she didn't have a fever.
