Update on my plan

So my HSG showed left tube hydrosalpinx ( fluid filled in tube which is toxic) right tube was blocked but he got it open. My dr wants to do a laparascopy soon and remove the left tube since the toxins could be preventing pregnancy with the good tube even. So that is coming up in the next week. I was thinking of trying naturally once the bad tube is taken out.. since right is open.. There is no chance for ectopic once that bad tube is gone right?? If no luck with trying naturally, then I will move to either iui or ivf.. someone told me to avoid iui since it could result in ectopic? idk why they said that. But that is my plan thus far. My blood work came back normal. I do have factor v leiden so I need to be on lovenox shots through pregnancy.. The dr seemed to think that factor v may have caused my early miscarriage last year.. I was surprised because I read that factor v typically causes miscarriages later in pregnancy and I was only 6 weeks. But I will believe the specialist.. What are your thoughts? Do you think trying with one tube is worthwhile or should I go right to ivf or iui.. I am 39 and 40 in august by the way./..

Sorry you're having to go through all this. I think it all depends on how patient you are. I had a hysteroscopy/laparoscopy in July (fixed a t-shape uterus and severe endo), and the RE had initially told us we could try naturally for a few months after. But when he saw the state of things (he didn't expect endo to be that severe), he agreed with our plan to be more aggressive. We were planning on trying up to 2 IUIs before moving on to IVF. This decision was made as a consequence of the six months of increased fertility we got from the surgery, with my lack of patience and DH's struggles with TI which was impacting our relationship. I think it ultimately also depends on finances. Would moving right to IVF be possible? I believe that if I were in your shoes (which I'm obviously not, so take this with a grain of salt), that would be my preferred option. If you end up ovulating on the side without a tube, you're wasting a month. And while your other tube has been cleared, it doesn't mean it's in perfect shape either. So I'd opt to bypass the tubes altogether.
Good luck with your surgery and with making your decision!

I know that is kinda what i am thinking..  Lets say i go with iui.. the bad tube being gone couldn't cause an ectopic right? cause there is no tube it wouldn't fertilize.  i was talking to a friend and she said something about still can have ectopic with the bad tube gone.. so im a little confused..  The IVF is def a possibility.. just trying to avoid all the hormones etc ( esp since i have this blood clot disorder)  but i feel like maybe giving iui one to two cycles first.. idk

I don't know much about ectopics. I'd say it wouldn't be possible in the one that's been removed, but depending on the state on your right tube, then there's still a risk I guess. Maybe you need the weigh the potential risk/cost of IUI vs benefit. You'd likely still be taking some level of hormones doing IUI (I took a combination of Femara and Follistim), and if your left ovary responds better, than you will have taken all that for nothing. If IUI and meds are covered, maybe it's worth trying a couple of them. But if you're OOP and spending on IUI may impact your ability to do IVF in the very near future, I'd skip IUIs and jump straight to IVF.

true.. I should really check with insurance. I know they offer four ivf per year,, not sure about the iui.

@runner76 - this is going to be long, and I'm sorry. My first HSG was read as having a blocked right tube. We opted to do Clomid with IUI on the months that I ovulated from the left side. However, my right ovary seemed to be dominant, and over 4 cycles, I only ovulated from the left side once. It's actually a myth that your ovaries rotate each month. It was extremely frustrating and disappointing, and I had no control over the process. Come to find out....2 years (and a new RE later)....I did not have a blocked tube after all. I actually had a uterine septum, which was what was blocking the dye from going into the tube. The uterine septum was removed and tubes looks clear. We are now moving onto IVF because I have ovulation issues as well. IF you have insurance coverage for IVF, I would most definitely go that route without any hesitation. I think that it will be a less frustrating process in the long run and will be more effective at meeting your goal (a baby :) ). That's just my opinion though, I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong." Good luck to you!

i completely agree with that. I know I also heard it is a myth about switching sides each month.. I get a pain in my left side every month and i swear i only ov on that side..  My husband seems to not believe that is accurate though so it is frustrating.. I talked to the nurse to and she said we could try iui but it may lead to more months of waiting and more disappointment if i am not ov on good side... One thing making me want to avoid ivf is that the PGD testing is quite costly.. If it is going to end in a baby,, it is worth it.. but I'm just trying to avoid more financial strain..  Do you know anything about that testing? I am guessing it is a good choice to have it..

@runner76 - I am not doing PGD, but maybe some others here can provide some info about that. You may even want to consider making a new post about it.
